Crossing the A417 is my least favourite part of the Cotswold Way. They're currently rebuilding that whole junction at the Air Balloon Roundabout and it should be a lot safer once they put in proper pedestrian bridges. When the Cotswold Way was first created it wasn't that busy on the A417, the traffic used to be more split between the old Ermin Street (a Roman road) and the A417 but then they built the Brockworth Bypass and it directed the traffic away from the Ermin Street onto the A417 making that road incredibly busy. I used to commute to Andoversford and went through that junction every day.
The main downside to the new roadworks there is the destruction of the old pub, the Air Balloon.

A pedestrian bridge will be wonderful for the trail. I was looking forward to the Air Balloon pub along our way. When I saw the fences I was hoping it was just being renovated. Always sad when we lose a special place. Interesting to get the background. Thanks.

OMG! that was scary! 😮 Watching the video we felt that cars were usually too fast!

It took us a little while to calm down as it felt even closer than it looks on the video. We are much more careful now. These days the road has to be completely clear before we cross 🙂

It's really confusing at the top of the Greenway, with all the branching footpaths. Not surprised you made a mistake there, very understandable. Was that the first time you lost the trail?

We lost it a couple of times but only for a few minutes. When we got a little confused or unsure we looked at the Macs Adventure app on our phones and were soon on the right path, The Cotswold Way markers are very good so fortunately no real set backs. The app now bleeps when you go off the trail so much improved.

Oh dear, yes, no chance to rest it while you were on that organised walk with hotel stops pre-arranged. What a shame - must have made those last few days quite difficult. Glad to hear you're much improved now though. 🙂 Thanks again & looking forward to the next video!! 😃

What shoes did you wear? I am not a heavy boot person and they look like they served you well.

We have Hoka Speedgoat 5s. They are light, comfortable and have great soles.
