GM´s are not allowed to play with the Players anymore :( They take so long because everyone is writing a Ticket for every bullshit reason, even when they lost like 1 Gold or so..
I remember when you used to be able to add GM's to your friends list :P I also remember a GM coming in game to tell this guy to stop blocking the Mailbox with his mount.. I wish that GM's could still do this, sadly Blizzard stripped them of this power :(

what happened is they changed how tickets and responding work. They pretty much have a program like battle.net that shows our tickets and messages so they can respond without having to go ingame. The only time they are allowed to do this is if it's an ingame issue which they give these sort of tickets prio to higher rank GMs that normally are ingame and can do theyr jobs without getting distracted. The old system where they would allow every GM ingame was causing too many problems with people messing around and putting themselves behind in work.

It was them doing things like this, example. Showing up in raids to assist with issues, obviously they can't zone in and help every raid party with their issues. People got upset calling it unfair treatment or something. I also remember a story about top % progression guilds having GMs on standby the help them out with any issue so it could be solved instantly and not hinder them in their race for world first.

I once talked to a gm in hellfire peninsula. I opened a ticket and he suddenly appeared in front of me and started to do really fun stuff. He was lvl 1, naked and could fly. That was back in 2009 I think i still have the screenshots, but they are on my old computer. Good times :D

Back in Everquest around the year 2000-2001ish, My buddy submitted a GM ticket about an issue he was having. At the time we were standing inside the Arena at the back of the bazaar goofing off with some people. Well, a GM showed up there wearing the usual 1 piece green robes they had. This was an "Apprentice GM" as GMs had different ranks based on seniority back in the day and i remember it was a dark elf female. While she was discussing the problem with buddy, I had another friend bring my health down on my warrior to 15% (Which if none of you played EQ gave warriors the ability to land Crippling blows which were like 500% crits with auto stuns). I proceeded to use my "Mighty Strikes" Discipline and zerged the fucker down before she could click the immortality necklace(That disc made every hit you landed an automatic crit for like 15 seconds, which since i was below 20% HP was all Crippling blows AKA A shitstorm of damage). The GM gave me a tell saying it was against the rules to attack staff during ticket disputes, but it was still totally freaking worth it. Moral of the story is *THEY ARE NOT GODS THEY BLEED LIKE THE REST OF US!!!!* Good times!

Plus heroic dungeons dropped an epic, or had a chance to on the last boss for the first batch of heroic dungeons in Wrath if memory serves me correctly. On top of the Heroic dungeons they added in for ToC and leading up to ICC.
In GW2 there were so many GMs that played with people. They just never used their powers outside of teleporting and helping a player with their tickets.

The time he didn't spend dong a few commands and writing a bit he probably went looking into the history and logs and finding the tags and so forth. I think the alternative would be a much delayed, "put it on the shelf with the others" kind of thing and some mail a few days layer instead. I don't see any reason to not appreciate this.
I have never seen a gm character legitly in-game, but those robes are pretty much what I imagined they would look like. That being said, the tall, powerful, and elegant stride of a Blood-elf would suit them more in my opinion.

fmugurs >shitty Misinformation leads to ignorance. Not all of them are terrible. Some of them are fantastic. There are quite a few that are Blizzlike that provide an experience almost completely akin to retail, only having very, very minor bugs at most. Some of them are so well scripted that dungeons/raids are completely flawless, spot on in all the mechanics. If you play on Molten or some of the custom content "fun servers" then yea it's no surprise things don't work and the GM's dont want to fix them. Look where you are. But the Blizzlike ones that strive to provide the best experience possible are easy to spot. The GM's on those are really hard at work to push regular updates and help the players out. I dare say the GM's are even more helpful on those servers than retail. They get back to you much quicker, and they'll fix a broken quest or give you a lost item in front of your very eyes, for instance. Everyone likes to assume things from what they hear. So because you only hear about the big population private servers and how shitty the experience is, you assume they're all like that.
Last time i saw a GM was in TBC he showed up just for fun. I was fishing with a friend near Shattrat and he just appeared next to us. Had some fun back then....
Hah, had the same thing happen earlier in Wrath, during a Naxx 25 semi-PUG (10-15 regular raiders, rest were pugged). We all got turned into pirates for the KT fight.
I used Tukui. I believe currently is called Elven UI or something. if you google for Tukui, you will get directions. Of course i tweaked it for my taste.
I remember I saw a gym outside orgrimmar on a flying out during wrath right after cataclysm got announced and they announced Azeroth flying. It was an image of a god to all of us on the Horde. That’s what GMs were in the good old days.

They could respond without controlling a character model before. They just rarely did it. They probably still can but just rarely do it.

They can't, the rules of being gamemasters where changed in cataclysm. They are not allowed to show themselfes anylonger due to a case back in WOTLK.
