  • My number one audience requested tutorial has been the chainless starting double crochet or standing double crochet (as I learned to call it). This is a technique to get rid of the chain 3 at the beginning of each row and have nice straight edges on your project without having holes either. Also a huge bonus is that you don't ever have to work into chains. You always get to work into the top of the stitch. It's a little bit tricky to start off but with a little practice it becomes second nature! Leave any questions in the comment section and I'll see what I can do to help!

Thanks for this video. It is good to see the differences to these crochet approaches, when each might be appropriate and then the step by step of a different chain 3. I like it! It squares the sides, more professional look.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong. I only have one loop on my hook after turning and twisting. Must not be yarning over like I’m suppose to? Hum Will keep trying.

If you still are having problems with the stitch you can send me a video over on my Facebook page or Instagram and I can try to help. I know it's hard to film yourself but without seeing what you are doing it's difficult to guess exactly.

I gots it. Ha ha I’m using peaches and cream cotton yarn. I think it’s not looking it’s best and I’ll use acrylic next time. I can see a gap between my first FDC and second DC. Any advice on how to fill in the gap. Edges are straight but don’t like that space. I’m probably doing something wrong with twisting or yarning over. I should be just going into the second stitch, correct? Gappy looking.... 🤔

Great technique. How do you apply it when starting from a chain foundation?
Do you have a video for this ? Thanks for sharing.

What a great idea! I normally just chain on that row and then work my stitches but I just tried it and it totally works as it should. It's a bit more challenging to do this from a chain foundation, but really not terrible. You just have to make sure for the next stitch you skip the stitch that you worked the standing stitch into. If I am working a solid row though, I usually use foundation stitches instead. Foundation stitches work the first row and the chain row at the same time. I don't have a tutorial for this but there are many out there. I'll work on getting one up. Thanks for watching!
