    The way Alonso planned this was brilliant - he needed 1mil to pay of the Russians, but he didnt have it, but he knew someone that did, he just needed to make it look good - create a warrant using 'The Sandman' as his source, get it endorsed by the wisemen who also get a judge to sign it, execute the search, shoot first ask questions later, and seize Roger's pension money - quarter mil for each of his guys, maybe 1mil for the wisemen, 1mil to pay off the Russians, and maybe 1mil left to log in as evidence, everyone's happy - as far as his guys knew he was logging in 3mil, but the wisemen knew it would be no more than 2mil being logged. He just needed a scapegoat in case things went wrong, so bring in a Rookie who is easy to work, play on his ambitions and plant a trail (PCP, shooting Roger, prints on the hammer) - if things go well, he is part of the team, if not, have him killed or put on trial, and keep a contingency with the Cubans. The only thing Alonso didn't count on what Hoyt saving Smiley's niece

    It's tragic to see how naive Office Hoyt was at that point. Unfortunately, he had no concept on what these men were trying to do. During the search, he is excited that a major bust was taking place. In their eyes, they are excited by their greed for the money. He is totally out of touch with their agendas and has no idea about how seriously deep he is in trouble...

      The coolest thing about the film is that they would all have to accept Jake after Alonzo was killed. Jake kept his mouth shut and never would go after them or Smiley or even the Three wise men. This would make him both trusted and feared. I really do believe Alonzo when he said Jake is exactly how he USED to be.
      There are indeed lots of HARD criminals who still appreciate and respect an honest cop. If not for themselves, then for their families. Smiley was genuinely thankful that a cop was there to save his niece from being raped/killed. Even Smiley himself was shocked and probably NEVER let someone go before that he was paid to execute.

Realistically, he was planning to rip all of them off and pay the Russians with their share. But in the end, Jake remained alive while Alonzo was killed by the Russians, his wife left him, his hood rejected him, and he was "shot in the ass." Jake won the battle. You're right that he was playing him from the start, but I felt that Alonzo wouldn't have had Jake killed if he had taken the money. I believe the reason it's a training day for Jake is not only because Jake is trying to make the unit, but rather it's Alonzo trying to convert Jake into a crooked cop like himself and his guys under him. There were several moments throughout the film where Jake impressed Alonzo enough to the point where he thought that he could maybe be a part of his unit, ie when Jake beat down the guys that where trying to rape the young girl. However, Jake not taking the money was the final straw. But ultimately, a movie like this is left up to interpretation, which is what makes it so good.

    The rest of the movie is over the top, but I feel this part is realistic. There’s no way of proving a criminal left a $4.75 million stash or a $4.25 million stash if you discovered it. Congrats, now $500k is yours.
    And let me tell you, the cop feels ENTITLED to that cut. No bs about sleeping thru ethics class. They think they earned it, plain and simple.

    Damn, I feel Jake. My conscience would of been whooping my ass the same way, like "God is watching, what would your mother think, this might lead to your death, I truly want to be a "good" cop, God will condemn me, this is that test of my life everybody was telling me about, stand up and say no, these guys will want to kill me"... 😬🤕

    Even if the rookie would have played along. They made sure his fingerprints were on everything. So if it came out that someone was pocketing the drug money, the rookie would have been blamed.

    A quarter million dollars in such a small package with $50 bills? Wow! What's that... 5.000 bills compressed by some alien device?

    • @omalor
      @omalor 8 лет назад +8

      it would be 5000 bills total, I know from my days as a cashier how thick a stack of 100 bills is, so multiply that by 10 for the height, then by 5 for the width, the package looks alright.

    That's kind of real how it goes down. I have never been apart of something this big as far as I've seen and know. However, I've had a family of Cops and this is realistic.
