I think I will take your advice on getting the CPL filter and forgetting about it.
Is there any condition in which the CPL filter would have a negative impact on videos/photos?
      Thanks.

I thought the rotation on these filters was just to change to vertical mode? ,can you confirm you can actually adjust the polarisation amount in all the filters with Cpl in this box? Thanks

  • @BlairAir
    @BlairAir Год назад +53

Here's a tip I saw over on Polar Pro. Let's say one filter is not dark enough, but the next one up reduces light too many stops. Going to ISO 200 will Halve the stops an ND Filter produces. So you have a 16, and next strongest is an ND64. USE THE 64 at ISO 200. Result is ND 32 Equivalent, or very close 🤔 how slick is that? I tested the method, (and actually HAD the ND32 filter from above scenario and it matched it spot on. Other examples work too! Try it (even though that Freewell set gives you every ND ever known to mankind!

    • @shegocrazy

That's true...or you could adjust the shutter speed. Of course the idea of the filters is to keep optimum camera settings when you can't adjust f stop.

This is where i found out that no filter comes with the DJI. I mean, for this kind of money they should afford to throw in an extra filter set. It costs them nothing really. Very useful video! Thanks!
One thing is not included is how to put on ans take off the filters from the camera.

When I started using the ND/CP filters, I got sun reflection artifacts, light leaks too many times, what I didn't get when using the original ND filters. I realized that the structure of the turnable polarizer might cause it, because the simpler, dark glass of the ND filter somehow prevents it. Could you confirm this phenomenon ? I would use shutter speed of 1/50 at 30 fps. There is no need to use 1/60. Besides, in Europe lights flicker if you use anything that is not divisible by 50. If I would shoot at 60 fps then I would use shutter speed of 1/100. Gerald Undone has made a great video about shutter speed and motion blur that debunks the traditional "180 degree rule"

In other words, if I have no filter on the drone and the shutter speed is 1/1000 of a second, and I want it to be 1/60. I know there is a way to calc which filter will get me there without trial and error. Appreciate it!

    • @user-wi7vu5hv8g

      Divide 1000 by 2 =500 (1 stop)
      divide 500 by 2 = 250 (1 stop)
      250/2 = 125 (1 stop)
      125/2 =~ 60 (1 stop)
so you cut the light by 1+1+1+1=4 stops
The ND filter that cuts 4 stops is the ND16 (=2^4)
      ND32 (=2^5) cuts 5 stops
      ND64 (=2^6) cuts 6 stops
      ...
      ND1000 (=2^10) cuts 10 stops
If you study the basics of photography you 'll undestand what to do with filters and how to calculate "stops" easily

Hi Darren, well explained, tks very much.
One question: how do you best adjust the ring on PLfilters, just by watching on the RCscreen the output on different setting ?
    Your help is veeery appreciated.😍

I put the filter to my eye and look into the sky whilst turning the wheel but they also have a marker on them which you can just leave in place as is most of the time without moving it

Why spend $150 for the set, when for $70 you can get two freewell variable ND filters that covers ND 2 to ND 512?

Anyone else preferring the unfiltered look? Looks so much more natural.

Yes, when there isn't a bunch sunlight or glare from various objects the natural look is great.

Just remember that when you use these filters on the mini 4 pro it bumps the weight to over 250 grams

Another channel did tests on filters and found some of Freewell to be significantly incorrect where the actual ND number was different to what was advertised

I tried ND filters and I can't use them because they make the videos blurry even at high shutter speeds on a sunny day. I never get motion blur which is good.

Why do they need ND filters? Why didn't DJI just build them in the camera? It makes no sense.
