hi mike,I just found the "allocation unit size "gonna effect the boosting time. I got a 16g sd card whose speed can reach 90mb/s , but it takes more than 40 seconds to boost. When I try to format it on windows pc, I found the "allocation unit size " is 8192 bytes. So I try change the size and test, and it turns out that the best set of the"allocation unit size " is 32 KB, which gonna bring a high speed and it takes almost 22 seconds to boost. I also try to set it to 64 kb but when I boost the H4n pro just says that the SD card need to bo formated, then it will set the"allocation unit size " to 32kb, I guess it's the best set for sd card.
Wow, pretty awesome. Thank for doing these tests. I clocked in at 27.7 seconds boot time with a SanDisk Ultra (80mb/s Class 10) 16GB SDHC card on my H4n Pro.

Good question! The H4N Pro is basically an older device which uses 16bit file systems. So anything over 32GB would no long be accommodating the recorders file type, but there is a way to format larger SD Cards by using your computer, then the card will work. Thanks!😎

Great video Mike I have a question is that for the first boot of a newly formatted card or does it take that long on every boot up? Heres why I asked I like the idea of not formatting my card till the end of a project so if Im doing a documentary I wont format the card till I have done all the interviews. I would only take the daily recordings and save them to my pc but keep the other recordings on the card as sort of an unofficial back up I use 32gb cards. Is that bad to do doing bad?
Formatting the card will erase everything. I suggest only formatting the card once. After that it should work flawlessly for the rest of the life of that card, as long as it is only being used in the H4N.

@MikeSytes Have you posted an update? I understand 32 GB is the maximum size for my Zoom H4 and I also have concerns of other formats like SDHC UHS-I Memory Cards. I have an older H4 not a pro and get the “data write error” sometimes when I end a recording but the recording still works. I tried formatting a 128GB card and it did not work. If I need to stay with a 32 GB card it would be nice to have a faster speed if possible but I have concerns that faster cards will not be compatible and just waste more money on a card that won’t work?
