I think she's different in both of them, in the ova and movie she's more aggressive. While in the Tv series she's very composed, you barely see her loose her cool. Either way she's still my favorite character.
In the latest episodes especially, her character has really been fleshed out. It's really cool seeing her and Akko's feelings about each other change and progress.
yeah, I totally agree. Those two have grown so much closer, I can't wait for the next episode! So I can see how they interact with each other after episodes 20 and 21.
I do like Diana’s character, she is seen as “princess of perfection” in the show, but like everyone else she has her own flaws. She’s not an antagonistic character, nor is she arrogant and spoiled, she is mature and compassionate, she doesn’t hate Akko, but is irritated by her because of how she is, but although I wish she could’ve told off Hannah and Barbara for bullying Akko, she witnesses it, but she doesn’t do anything about it. In a way, most of the time she’s kinda like a morally grey character.
Actually, there were a few times since early on in TV series where she considered Akko's views & was even impressed by her flukes; eg. that time Diana got credit for what Akko did & tried to correct everyone but they didn't listen, sure she should've snapped out of shock to properly give Akko credit but she did try somewhat. Diana is somewhat like Erina from Food Wars, except Erina was even more snobbish. Both were cheerful girls who became jaded due to being heavily burdened with rigid elitism. There dynamics remind me of Naruto-Sasuke & Ruby-Weiss a bit, although Diana & Erina's character arcs appeal to me more.
Okay, I know alot of you ship Diakko in the comments, and I do too, but can we just pause and admire the fact that this person literally just explained Diana's character arc and decided to share it with us in a 2 MINUTE VIDEO?! Please you are criminally underated, literally everything you said in this video to me is true and I 100% agree with you!! I feel like withouth Diana in the story, Their would be an empty space, sure somebody else can fill it, but I don't think anybody else can fill it better than Diana. So lemme just say, Thank you for making this, you explained it better than I ever could, so thank you.
I watched the Ova about twice now and the tv series too. I noticed in the 1st Movie in 2013 ... yes at first she was a bitch yet when the dragon was released from the iron maiden and diana could not control the problem which lead it to escape. The false meeting with akko seem different the way diana quickly got up and did her prideful stance towards akko even though she was had cuts , possibly bruises. Akko was wondering what had happened? Diana gave her that excuse "Which way did the thing go?!" like I'm judging the fact she's embarrassed akko saw her in a mess. Well I don't know I maybe wrong too. Another part in the movie was akko almost died from falling then diana saves her "No need to thank me it's simply my duty to evacuate the students safely " in her tsundere tone which is cute. The 2nd movie (2015) Diana didn't really care for what akko and her friends we're planning but decided to check it out to find out how successful it turned out... in the beginning of the parade before those kids took the magic resource. You seen her watching from above without anyone noticing her also impressed it put off pretty well and diana cheering the 3 witches on (Akko, Lotte, Sucy) then suddenly gets embarrassed. The TV Series ......Diana changed. She wasn't a bitch to akko I simply thought she was slowly opening up to her. At the end of episode 13 where Diana is high in the sky flying she tells her self "What is this feeling?" I'm having a theory of new friendships or in fan fiction people already made is diana is starting to have feelings for akko. In conclusion, I agree she has a two face: one side is the tough mean Head Held High without showing any feelings in fact hides her problems so she wouldn't look weak. The other side is you already seen in some parts the Kind Innocence Caring little girl and this credibility of Eli from Love live is a perfect example how her character developed.
They really just thought the aggresively prideful Diana was not fitting to the parallels they wanted to create. It was fine for the short movies, not a lot of character development is needed there, but a 25 episode series needs characters that have complex layers so they went a slightly different route with her, making her more composed and keeping her emotions in check. One clue of what the creators were thinking stands right in your face during episode One of the show where you see Diana as a child in the Shiny Chariot show that Akko attended.
Very well spoken. As someone who watched the series first, I was honestly scared that Diana would turn out to be the type of character like how we saw her on the OVA, and I was glad to see that the serious took the route of making her the Deuteragonist with more depth to her character. This easily made her my second favorite character in the show, albeit a very close second.
I saw the series first and then watched the two OVA afterward. I understand they give you broad strokes of the characters in a short time but I much prefer Diana in the series. She’s not really “wrong” or obviously antagonistic which is kind of refreshing. To compare LWA to something it bears a lot of resemblance to, Harry Potter, Malfoy is so obviously gonna be Harry’s foil that he just behaves in a fairly boring and predictable way and isn’t even remotely interesting until the 6th book. Diana is intriguing and compelling immediately.
@@skk3465 Absolutely worth it, just watch them both with the knowledge that they came before the series and don’t they exist in the same canon. The gorgeous animation, beautiful music and overall charm of the series are all there, just in a more self contained way. If you like the show you’re pretty much guaranteed to enjoy both OVAs. One is the length of a regular episode and The Enchanted Parade is about an hour.
I can't wait for the "I prefer Little Witch Academia Crystal Diana over the Original manga version because she didn't act like a jerk to Akko gifs" :lol Diana is just Akko's Rei Hino really, though Diana gets a bit shy and gets this "i need you inside of me" affectionate voice whenever Akko gives her special attention or does something impressive. Rei Hino roasted shy and ate it between a bun that time when her grandpa forgot to make dinner :lol Anyway, no need to make a big deal like the people who made that whiny gif, Diana isn't the schoolbitch or something, that's all Hannah and Barbara. She just got some issues with Akko because it's frustrating to her to see Akko admire Chariot so openly no matter how much other people belittle her over it while Diana was shamed into given up her idolatry for Chariot.
Yeah, TV Diana is more interesting than OVA Diana. Rather than the paper-thin Mean Girls archetype, she's tough on Akko, but between her reverence of the traditions of the magic establishment and seeing Akko come out of nowhere without any respect for them, as well as her slight envy of Akko still having her world revolve around that childlike enthrallment with Shiny Chariot, it comes from an understandable place. However, her two self-appointed flunkies always just cross the line with whatever she has to say and she struggles to walk it back when they do. So if I had to put it succinctly, TV Diana tries to be Akko's Hermione Granger, but comes across as Draco Malfoy.
Very well done video, I saw both the OVA and Movie of LWA and right now I'm caught up with the anime series, and yeah many people feel the series is slow but I understand if it deeply looks into its character and explores who they are rather than just being "the best student" and a "bitch to Akko" as the OVA does. Diana is a very well developed character. I have also watched Love Live! In fact I love it and I never noticed that parallel between Eli and Diana, good comparison right there; characters that are somewhat forced to act cool because of what they represent (the best student and the president of the student council) and because of this people who don't understand the situation (Ex. Honoka with Eli and Akko with Diana) might view them as mean, when in reality they have other struggles and that's why Nozomi is very nice to Eli and Akko eventually knows why Diana acts in that way. There are lots of things that one could talk about LWA, for example the social issues it tackles and a bit of discrimination, another interesting "magical girl" anime that reminds me a but if LWA is Zero no Tsukaima, Akko is pretty similar to Louise, the protagonist, in the sense that they are inexperienced in magic, I'll not spoil but Louise's struggle with magic is a complete different one than Akko's, ZnT also tackles the issue of a society in which both magical and non-magical people exist, but in ZnT is all the way around as in this show magical persons are the 'nobles'. I hope to see more of you, I'll subscribe. This video deserves a lot more views.
I actually haven't heard of Zero no Tsukaima, thanks for mentioning it! It'll be interesting to see someone similar to Akko deal with their own situation, but with the roles kind of reversed. I'll add it to my plan to watch!

Hey! Really loved it and your right! Diana is two faced and between the two season series and the shorts of little witch academia her character personality was slightly altered.
The thing for me is that the way the Little Witch Academia TV Series ended felt more like a season finale rather then a series finale Diana's character greatly improved as the series progressed but i am still not entirely satisfied the potential romances go no where and other plot lines at the end also don't go anywhere i don't want to give spoilers season 1 did end on a bright note but with the lack of things resolved it kinda weakens the ending a bit
