I've remembered that Mr. Mathis used to close his concerts with this song. Alll you can do is just say, "wow." I've been a fan for 53 years now, have seen him in concert 8 times, yet his voice never ceases to amaze me, especially when you hear s song that seems to have been written just for him. Of course, everything he sings seems to belong to him, regardless of other recordings.

I first saw Mathis at the Copa in New York in 1959. And now I’m seeing him again at NJPAC in 3 weeks. A span of 51 years during which I saw him about 30 times. Just simply the best singer EVER!!!

He sings this as the last song in the concert and you are left with your heart melting and breaking and swelling; tears pouring down your face unashamed and you think you'll die as you watch him take his last bow and leave the stage. The lights come up and you look around and everyone looks just like you feel. It has (once again) been the best night of your life. There will never be the likes of this gentleman ever again among us. I treasure every day that he is still with us, still performing.
