- Form VII in Vaapad variant, known mainly from Mace Windu character.
Basic principles inlude constant pressure, aggression, fast and unpredictable attacks. It also utilizes some bare hand techniques.
This material is based on various Japanese and European swordsmanship schools, together with Wookieepedia article about Vaapad.
Some techniques are performed slowly on purpose!

Shii Cho: Basic attacks and blocks.
Makashi: Footwork and maneuvering of blade.
Soresu: Tight and minimalist movements to create fast defense.
Ataru: Extreme to acrobatics to make burst attacks.

Vaapad is like the Kyokushin of lightsaber forms
I love how some of these moves involve beating the crap out of your opponents
It’s not that funny it makes a lot of sense to me. It is easier to intimidate ur opponents if u always have an attack ready. If they block ur lightsaber u can use the force and if ur master was too skilled in the force like Obi wan. It helps to have maximized physical power.

Well my form. Form V or 5 is very physical as well. Because as Anikin Obi wan could not teach me the force skill that I had potential for. So I maximized my physical capabilities throwing punches or kicks hear and there while swinging my saber.
Not necessarily, vaapad is about using precision in agresive yet controlled manner to decipher and exploit an opponent's weaknesses, without letting anger or agresion tunnel vision you or leave you open in a fight, with a state of mind somewhat like getting angry during an attack but then calming down mid attack and holding back from using unecesary power, so you are abalncing both in order create a perfect conduit of energy
Swing for the fences until it's just an ash outline
Meanwhile you have juyo that is kicking people around
Even in the fight between darth maul and obi wan and gui gon jinn
Maul is just kicking people everywhere
Even in battlefront 2 one of maul attacks is a roundhouse kick

According to SW3 novelization, Mace using the Vaapad would look like 0:58, his lightsaber striking so fast it looks like several blades. Just like the actual Vaapad, a creature striking its preys with its tentacles so fast it looks like a blur and it is impossible to tell how many it has. Thus why Mace named his lightsaber form after it.
If you try 2x video speed, it would look like that

My sister only knows the 7 forms, so when I used this on her she had no idea how to counter it. I went from a form that she recognized, form 4, then switched to this form and caught her completely off guard.

your comment makes no sense. how can she not be able to counter if she knows all 7 forms? only knows, only knows the 7 forms. thats all the forms; 7 is a mastery and utilisazion of all forms prior. if she knows form 7, she has experience with the patterns of random. everything has a pattern. nothing is truly random. accidents are more commonly what the case is verse it being random. form 7 is everything. pretty much the only thing that can defeat form 7 in its mastery, is trust.

He does actually use some of the controlling techniques against sidious by grabbing his Saber and pulling it in

One of the big takeaways I'm getting here is we need more fistfights with force users. That could be sick with the right choreography.

What's really interesting about this variation of form VII is that it's been said that Vaapad's principles and move sets are alien in comparison to Juyo,Vaapad interestingly enough is actually the completed form for form VII,what they both have in common is that they are both incredibly physically demanding,basically like Ataru but on beast mode

I would love to see an Adventures of Mace Windu in the format of into the badlands. Just episodes of him kicking butt.
Finally there's a Vaapad tutorial. I've been searching for the past few weeks.
With me having boxing experience this would definitely be the best for me, I love when lightsaber or sword combat is mixed with hand to hand melee combat
This is my favorite form of lightsaber combat and now I know how to use it
Vaapad is my type of fighting style, I also use a purple lightsaber
No joke here, i trained in all 7 forms of lightsaber combats for 2 years regularly as a physical exhertion activity, vapaad is my main and i guarantee you would absoulutely wreck the shit out of a makashi or juyo user if you use vapaad.

@@xellanchaos5386 Probably not. Vapaad is slightly more laid back than Juyo. It’s users aren’t gonna use dirty tricks with the intent to injure or kill you, rather disarm you. You just have to be open to when they’re trying a hilt grab or a punch to the head etc. and be ready to defend against it. I use Juyo with Soresu as a secondary in case I need to go on the defensive and I can beat Vapaad users using Juyo and a little bit of patience. For example, I got in a saber lock with a Vapaad user and he tried to reach his hand around to the left to grab my hilt but I knew he was trying to do that so I just moved my saber forwards and to the right and gashed him on the arm.
But can it beat my use of all of them
We need to teach kids all this
More informative and creatively inspiring than other instructions about the form that I've seen or read. Especially the random attack patterns where a strike to the primary zones can feel like they are coming from anywhere. It is surprisingly difficult to attack 'randomly' as we so frequently fall into comfortable patterns which then become easier to defend.
I need master this form of lightsaber combat.

When lightsabers exist (assuming they don't already exist and it's all classified government alien tech) you guys should teach many more and open up jedi temples to train folks. :) They really would be good self defense weapons. Easy to conceal, no need to sharpen or anything, can be used well at night and power settings can be changed on sabers.
The problem is not cutting yourself to shreds like in 1:01
@@speareu3614 It kind of really depends on how people would make lightsabers. It does not have to cut anything. It could be designed like a training lightsaber, where it would cause burns but not actually through skin. If lightsabers could be bought, that is probably how it would be done. Even if you were a highly trained athlete, it's pretty risky using something that could cut through steel.
You forgot, they actually exist now, just in very limited numbers
Tecnically speaking, Hacksmith made the first real plasma protosaber. its been a while since I last checked their shenanigans so idk how it is today
but there must be a council to train them in a right way so they will not use it for bad things just like what happened to anakin

The opening stance is different than what I've seen before. Usually it's described as the non-dominant hand swept in front of you with the saber held sideways over the head. Is that the "real" Vaapad stance?
that sounds very like Soresu opening stance, that's why we changed that a bit.

Your use of body mechanics is spot-on.
Funny thing is, this was the form that Mace Windu created and he used it many times, against Jango and against Palpatine. And they are the two most known.
This form is basically just spamming the light attack in any fighting game

My favourite form.
I think an interesting form to take would be a mix of the fast combat and emotional control of Vaapad, and the knowledge, mastery and adaptability of Niman. Also, instead of using your bare hands, you could use the force which aligns with the teachings of Niman!

The other 6 forms: Be well positioned, have good footwork, good defense and offense, etc.
Vaapad: Give random blows and let it be whatever The Force wants (If they disarm you, remember, you are without the saber, not without options)

The most insane quality of vaapad in my opinion is the diversionary aspect, i think i remember a lore point how users of it would move so fast they appear to be using 2 sabers

@@toomanyblocks8448 nah, Yoda was confirmed to be better than Sidious in saber combat. Using two sabers is just limiting yourself to fairly weaker strikes

My brother is using anikans form but I like a form with more variety so vaapad is my favorite
I think that for non-force sensitive lightsabers users (aka everyone watching this vid) the tricky thing isn't staying in the lightside, is punching with the risk of losing your hand

It was described in the Revenge of the Sith novel that he was slowly losing himself to the bloodlust. It's a shame that it was so poorly depicted in the movie, but nicely portrayed in the animated clone wars movie.

that's why Dooku, despite all his skill in swordsmanship, would have no chance . like what Anakin did to him unleashing strength and aggression
my favourite form from my favourite character of star wars and its really aggresive what I like because i am
when i meet up with my friends again (we often do this "pick a stick and lightsaber duel") I do this except for the punching and disarment park because this is a stoney region
also this style is perfect to lose some weight I think (and I really need to so win win)
That fighting style juyo is more sith style and vaapad is more Jedi style.

So, a bit of feedback on the elbow strike, with some followthrough you can turn that into three strikes in quick succession - Elbow, forearm, "ball" of the hand. It's a "basic" Okinawan Shorinryu technique.

Well in my opinion one form doesn't fully counteract the other for example form 2 can counteract form 4 but yoda who does form 4 has proven to be able to stand his own ground against dooku who had form 2 it's more really how proficient you are at lightsaber fighting

@@strix8213 Anakin was still growing as a jedi and Kenobi's greatest weapon in combat wouldn't affect him. The strongest aspect of Kenobi's swordplay was his gaslighting proficiency.
@@brookemonshower2756 Lol idk if you’re trolling or serious, but Dooku was a former Jedi master of the High Council. He’s not as good as Anakin yes, but it’s the freaking chosen one. Other Jedi couldn’t beat him. He’s far from dookie. Plus he used his smarts to escape yoda, since he knew he couldn’t beat him. The emperor chose to work with him for a reason
I hope to learn both forms of form VII one day I want form VII to be my main form when I can get a combat ready saber made

And i am going for a saberstaff/The double sided Staffsaber for context
Somehow before ever learning this technique it was the first ever swordfighting style I ever used since a kid. ( True story not making any of this up. )
I wonder if a more force attuned grey jedi might just start throwing random pushes in different directions as an adaptation of vapad later down the line
