They can come across as goofy, but I can definitely say they are highly intelligent, curious, and make great companions.

I've had four Springers since 1976, two males and two females. My males were big boys, one was fit at 75 pounds, on one was fit at 82 pounds. One of my females was 55 pounds, which is a big as 'the book' says a male is. My last companion made it to 16 years and 9 months, and was active up until the last 3 months. He did go deaf at about eleven years old. It was good that I had trained him to hand signals after that happened, he knew when to come, load up, sit, lay down, and search, just by signals.

Great video and super helpful as always, but 'other colours that pop up including red and white' is a Welsh Springer Spaniel and definitely would get their own points at a dog show. There are 2 different Springer Spaniel varieties and it might be worth pointing that out 😊

My last two springers were from the west coast of the USA and seem to be larger than the east coast variety. Lucy was 55 pounds and Seamus was 75 pounds and no they weren't fat . They went hunting everyday mostly chasing rabbits.

Well done. I’ve had 3 Springers with absolutely no health problems. I just picked up a 10 month old girl who was returned to the breeder because she has renal dysplasia, which I’ve never heard of in Springers, but is apparently seen in Cockers. She appears to have a fairly mild disease and we have our fingers crossed that she will live a long life. I didn’t know if you’d heard of this in the breed before, so thought I’d mention it.

You only talked about the englisch springer spaniel, but what about the welsh? There are two different breeds of springer spaniels. We will get a welsh springer spaniel soon and i hoped you would say something about them, too.🤗

We’ve had them all, currently a female English Springer (show), previously a male English Springer (working) and a male Welsh Springer. The Welshie was by far the most attractive dog, but the English Springers were noticeably smarter.

We’ve just adopted a 7 year old Spaniel Springer - I do need some more info on how to get him more trained. He is not that food driven, so lure him with food doesn’t work that much, so far I’ve only managed to get sit command to work. Not even stand command works 🤷‍♂️

I have a 1 year springer and they are stubborn and intelligent. She is not very food driven but goes nuts over all kinds of toys and pull/chew toys. I lure her into sit, stay, paw, roll over, and come using the toys. I also incorporated playing games to add value to her crate by throwing the toys in any out of her crate daily for about a month before I started closing the door. I made that a game as well by having her stay and then get rewarded by finding a hidden toy after she stayed quiet in her crate. Also one very small nuance is when she barks to get out of her crate I do the opposite that she wants me to do. I walk away from her and pay her no attention. After a while she realized that her bark lost value and that by being quiet she could get out. These dogs are brilliant, always trying to be stimulated, figure you out and if you can establish yourself as the leader will go to great lengths to please you. Keep at it. It can take a very long time (months) before these more complex behaviors are learned. She learned the basics really fast (days)

we have a 1 year old springer spaniel however he is way bigger and doesn't look like a springer spaniels face, he is very protective of me aswell which normal for a dog this breed, at all so we got him a DNA test it came back and said springer spaniel which i was very confused about. Either way we love the big lad intelligent, protective, kind, what else could you ask for.

this is so reassuring! We will get our springer psaniel puppy in 2 days and I am so anxious about them being very active.. We are a regular family with regular jobs, I wish I could spend my days in the park , but it is impossible! so 1 hour in the morning plus 1 hour in the afternoon will it be ok? In the weekends it is different, of course.. Thanks!

Totally agree our well trained Molly when exposed to birds and other animals becomes totally distracted and won’t listen to our commands. We have resorted to keeping her on leash because getting lost is a real concern. Invisible fence in our large yard works great. Totally wonderful with our grandchildren.

behaviour is interesting, i have 2 springers brother and sister, their mum is family dog and my parents also kept 2 bitches so when together my male is the only male of 5. so the girl is fine with other dogs maybe a little shy if one bullies her but the male.... hes fine id say with 80% of other dogs but then if any dog jumps up on him, tries to bully dominant any of his family or some his very close dog friends he will flip them to the ground and snarl and depending on what the dog did may get quite vicious and biting but that more reserved for dogs that try to hump him and try to dominate him. Weird thing he is otherwise very well trained, his recall is topnotch, he hunts birds like a champion and his retrieval is perfect. He follows commands, its just hard to let him off lead, coz he is responsive on the lead when he wants to go for another dog that is triggering that response but looks at me with a wiggle in his body and the look of "go on let me at them" so defo not springer rage. assuming this is just very alpha male behaviour and he is almost correcting them? any thoughts
