the best way to build strength to jump higher and to take bigger drops, is actually to jump. just jump nearly daily a few times your maximum. it can be on the ground or wherever you can jump your max. you need to push yourself continually to your limits, to get beyond them. well, pistol squads and pistol squads to jump are an option as well, but jumping around is still the best option.
One important thing I'd say is.. NEVER USE KNEES OR ELBOWS EVER... they are not meant to be used in such a way, do the whole thing backwards instead, train on the descent and do it slower and slower until you can do it properly.
Oh shit dude the backwards thing is an awesome tip! I never thought to practice that way. Been struggling with climb ups since forever and I always thought it was because I didn't have the arm power so I practiced muscleups instead (which I can still only barely do one). I think the knee-to-armpit trick plus your tip of practicing it backwards is really gonna help me improve. Thanks!
I'm glad to hear that Jace! One thing you could also do to improve your strength is doing smal push ups, what I mean with small is that your arms go backwards like on the side of your stomach as you go down so your elbows point backwards, It's kinda hard to explain but it should also help you =)
Sgt.Shadowsong Oh you mean keep my arms parallel to my body instead of pointing my elbows out at an angle? Yup I already do that; I added it in to my daily simple exercises which includes pullups. Thanks for the help! It's quite a relief to know that it's more likely my technique for wall climbs is wrong; I was getting worried my strength training wasn't helping me at all XD
Oh, no problem ^^ the climb up is a bit tricky tbh, I learned it by doing wall runs and going down things I never trained on it individually, it is now like a year later that I can do it because it is so heavy and it's a good exercise ^^
You are a master my friend. Thank you for these lessions, God Bless you. Greetings from Paulista - PE, Brazil. Ps: The end of the video was fun ahah the advice in the wall "caution do not climb" ahaaha lmao :D
Could you explain me the different levels of climb up ? I saw Endijs and Jessy Peveril doing some crazy climbs up but I didn't understand how they do that 😂
do you use the adidas boat right? thoose shoes are amazing i use them for BreakDance nice weight perfect grip only thing is they have the under holes so you can wet your feet in no time if the floor is wet XD
Hey buddy. I have a serious problem getting my chest out. I can put my elbow on the wall but I can’t bring my chest lying on the wall. Any recommendations? Please answer
I know this isn't relevant to the video, but as someone who came to freerunning and parkour from skating (inline and skateboard) and bmx. I've been wondering. Why don't you use spins? Like 360 rail precisions and stuff like that.
Drake Andrejas Sorry I worded my question badly. I didn't mean him specifically just freerunners in general don't seem to use spins. I guess that with the amazing flips and stuff that they can do, spins look a bit boring. And like you said it's not efficient for parkour.
Drake Andrejas Thanks for the list I'll start checking them out. I actually started watching Dom last night because he recently went to a jam for the one year anniversary of my local gym (fluidity freerunning academy).
Drake Andrejas I'm fortunate to be able to use it. It's the reason I got into parkour. My cousin started going so I tagged along and loved it. Coming from skating etc it was just my kinda sport.
2 years and I'm still stuck at level 1.5, I get one elbow over and the other pops up easy, I can't get to level 2, been training triceps on both sides, maybe I still need technique? Also how do I get a grip on the wall? I slip a lot in the cat
Matthew Chow if you still didn’t get it, work on the movement from top to bottom and work on your dips and pull ups on the wall. The more explosive you are the better
I think you should explain how to learn the technic to get above the wall from CAT position! Not only to show slo-mo's. Sorry this video doesn't help me.
Drago Aleksandrov hey drago, there isn’t much technique required to get into that position unfortunately. Other than the leg drive and keeping your chest close to the wall it just requires strength. If you’re still finding it hard I’d recommend doing some upper body conditioning! Good luck :)
Please please stop using those colorful miniatures for your videos! That makes me not want to see it! Those colors just look like the once upon a time great chennel "Flow". Hope you fix it!
When you're in the support position use one leg to kick away to bring the hips up, the other leg pushes off the wall and then bring the leg in and on top of the wall. Don't bring the same leg as you kick with, it is inefficient. This is basic shit!! get it right!
It is more difficult but it gives you more height and you can get to an upright position quicker, so if you get the technique down it should be more efficient. I don't care what works best for me or what "feels" easier, I only care about good technique
steiktur2000 we’d love to see a video of you doing this so we can understand your technique fully. Could you send us a clip privately through Facebook or Instagram? In our experience this is not better technique and it’s definitely not easier. The easy part is important here because this is a BASIC climb up technique tutorial, not an advanced one. Looking forward to seeing the video of your technique!
In Chad Zwadlo wall climb tutorial, he does a really nice climb up from the support position(the guy with the tail), he sometimes ends up in a position where he could continue running (landing on one leg) which would be the most efficient way. You can also see the Tapp brothers doing it in their wall climb tutorial at around 6:30. If something is easier doesn't necessarily mean it's better or faster. If you're not satisfied with those examples a video of me doing this won't be much help and it won't be much different.
will you guys do conditioning videos on how to build strength for doing bigger jumps and drops?
VeganBastard I second this
Hell yeah! This needs to happen!
the best way to build strength to jump higher and to take bigger drops, is actually to jump. just jump nearly daily a few times your maximum. it can be on the ground or wherever you can jump your max. you need to push yourself continually to your limits, to get beyond them. well, pistol squads and pistol squads to jump are an option as well, but jumping around is still the best option.
I want the progression 4 !!

Using knee and elbow is part of the journey for beginners, it's fine as long as people don't overuse these body parts for climb up

Drake Andrejas I've not long started, so it's likely that I happen to be watching people who don't do them. Got any recommendations on who to watch?
Drake Andrejas Thanks for the list I'll start checking them out. I actually started watching Dom last night because he recently went to a jam for the one year anniversary of my local gym (fluidity freerunning academy).

So when you kick your leg you only use the left
whats the track?

What do I do with my feet? The upper leg does what and lower leg does what?
Your lower leg drives upward and your upper leg is to assist the climb up
