I actually liked my MotorGuide Tour Pro when I had a boat. Ran solid for 3yrs. I prefer the electric motor being in the head vs the mount like the others. I also preferred the electric assist cable drive vs pure electric drive. Just my old school ways I guess. Probably one of very few who agree with this.
@ hey thank you man! That means a lot. We’ve not been doing this very long, but we have more stuff you might like! Brian Latimer. Brandon Palaniuk. Luke Dunkin. Jeff Gustafson. Austin Felix. Etc …
Bought the new tour a few years ago and installed it on a 97 Hydra Sport. I have since sold that boat. Current owner still has that trolling motor and upgraded all the graphs and added live scope. I actually loved the new tour despite the larger head. Was very quiet and the head didn’t spin back and forth like all the others when you put it on spot lock. The foot pedal I really liked it was an electric assisted cable steer. Very smooth and because it had both it always had a redundancy system should one go out. I will admit that it had two warranty recalls for bad boards that would not allow the spot lock function to work correctly. The first time you took it to the mercury dealer he ordered the board and installed it. However that didn’t wholly fix it. So they sent us the end users a plug in dongle that updates the software on the new board and that finally made it right. A little frustrating, but they paid for every bit of the warranty.
Xi3 owner here. Sad to hear they are calling it quits. I have run mine for 2 years and it has been solid. It hit ton's of rocks, stumps, and deadheads, and it still works great. It's amazing how fast the marine industry went from booming to selling off, and discontinuing major brands.
Been running my X3 for two years without issue. Does what it needs to do. Added pinpoint for spot lock and also use the Lowrance head unit functions. Works great. Great value. My dad just added the Garmin Kraken. That thing is on another level. But also cost 3x what mine did. To each their own. I guess nobody wanted a good value option. Always trying to keep up with the Jones's
I had a tour pro for 3 days. The first day was driving my new used boat home, the second day I took it to the lake, ran it for 10 mins almost got thrown overboard by the spot lock and the third day was the day I sold it, there were many other problems too like not wanting to calibrate etc... Nonetheless it was legitimately 3 consecutive days lol. I went to an ultrex next then and a second ultrex after fighting steering sensor issues and having to replace the whole motherboard too. Now I have a Powerpole Move and I haven't looked back. The Move is so many leagues above everything else it's not even funny! I absolutely love it!
So I just purchased a Motorguide Tour Pro with PinPoint. It was priced waaaay below reasonable and was brand new. Ive used it a number of times now and at first, it was doing the motorguide rock but i turned the pedal over and it hasnt since
Industry needs to listen to the customer, until they start doing that again I'll keep what I got. Btw thanks for getting the lower unit done, you rock!
Love my tour pro! Does all it's supposed to do. Got mine when they first came out. 4 yrs ago. Worked right out of the box with my lowrances. Cost me 2100, not 4 or 5k! I've been around trolling motors, bass boats since the 70's. After you use the motor for a few trips you don't even notice the head size. So many guys I talk to can't afford the crazy price of these motors! The weekend guys just don't need all the useless tech added to these motors. Just need a decent spotlock motor.
Have had an Ulterra for four or five years, never used the foot pedal, mostly troll, follow the contour, spot lock. I think the foot pedal is buried in one of the front compartments.
I run a 36 volt cable steering Motor Guide. It’s been very dependable and there’s a place that sells remains for about $900 so I also have a spare. I like how easy they are to change out. I haven’t had to change it out put 30/40 years ago Trolling Motors were so unreliable that I carried a spare in the boat. I stopped carrying a spare about 10 years ago but like to have one in my truck. I’m not buying two Power Pole Trolling Motors and wouldn’t be comfortable with not having a spare. I see a lot of guys having issues with the spot lock feature on their Minn Kota’s.
I just bought a Xi5 36volt. Super cheap at Sportsman’s. $999 used it all summer. Loved it. 16’ starcraft victory. Way overkill. But $999. Remote works fantastic. Spot lock works fantastic and the unit goes up and down with way less effort than my Minnkota did….. 😔😔👀🤔
Love my tour pro-yes the head is big but the service network and price here in 🇿🇼 is second to none and for what you pay the results are actually amazing
Thousands of kayak anglers have been using xi3’s for years. PowerDrives are not very useful due to deploy/stow design. We can do all that while seated with the xi3. I’m not sure what we are gonna do now- I am pretty sure most are not gonna run out and buy $3300-$4800 motors despite realizing that brushless is better. Hopefully Lowrance comes out with an affordable alternative or continues the design under the new brand. PowerPole is a great company with excellent customer service, but $1350 vs $$4800 is just not a reasonable price difference for most people.
At one time motor guide was the only trolling motor to own. Evinrude was crap, steering cables broke, breakaway cables broke and the wire under the head would wear in two and the directional arrow would break. Pure crap. I can remember when Mercury had a trolling motor and you could hear that thing all the way across the lake. The lowrance ghost has 3 control boards, crap!
Loved my old Tour Edition, bought it used and used it on 2 different boats. Unlike Andy's I didn't have an issue bending the shaft. In all the time I owned it, the only thing I ever had to do to it was replace a steering cable. A friend bought that bought my boat is still running it without issues. In my opinion, motorguide started the downhill slide when they first discontinued it and went to the x series motors. By the time they were ready to release a motor with spot lock they were playing catch up and in one of their release videos at icast they were bragging up how accurate the spot lock was but you see the background moving all over the place. Despite my love for the old Motorguides, i wasn't going to invest in something like that. I bought a Ghost instead and absolutely love it.
Trayton from Texas, my brother in law runs a ghost which I think is over priced, I run an i5 and it's been ok, we both run Etec's (225 & 150HO) which are the best. G2 suck though. Mercury was too undependable.
Bought the 24v tour pro (CHEAP) and have enjoyed it for the last year. Agree with Andy on the humongous head and calibrating the spot lock is crap, but personally the foot pedal and power felt better than my last ultrex. Wish they'd have reengineered to bring everything together
Back in the 90's pin point was the new standard, best on the market . But ya had to have their sonar . Made it over priced for most people. But the self storing, creek lock, shore lock spot lock was way aheaduf it's time by 20 years
I desperately wanted an xi5 instead of the terrova I had to be able to talk to my lowrance graphs But all the xi5 owners talked me out of it Most folks stick with trolling motors that will talk to their graphs. Motor guide always worked with lowrance so it only makes sense
I have xi5 not as good as I hoped works with graph just fine but pinpoint not that good and not a fan of remote control. If I had it to do over I would go with a tour pro or mk.good fishing y’all.

My XI3 is loud, when I hit anchor mode it spins anywhere from 360-700° every time. Ripped the cable out of my transducer. It loses satellite every 90 seconds or so. Worthless in the wind. Bought it during Covid when my kota died and I couldn’t find another one. Can’t wait to replace it. But I’m cheap so I will run it until it dies.
So I found the tacos and tackle podcast is it really in Eleva Strum Wi ??? like I grew up in Eau Claire and would go there to shoot pheasants. Is that really where you where ??? Thats some good shit Strum Wi population 800 pheasants 1000 deer 150 people and Andy doing the Tackle and Taco talk show I pretty much thought I seen eveything until today
I had noticed I hadn't seen new ones around. I'd never buy a ghost but I don't like lowrance to begin with. And for the omc trolling motors, I HATED the one I had. It was junk right out of the gate
Garmin is the best unless u want to add another 1500 t0 2000 bucks more for power pole. Garmin has the best support. Ultrex seems to have a lot of repairs based on the friends i have that have them.
I think motorguide was on the outs and loosing market share, just because alot of people match the trolling motor with their graph brand for the intergration. Thats why I thought twice about going to Garmin since I love my Ultrex Quest.
I still have a FW FB 71 on my 21’ Bullet, it was on the boat when I bought it in 2007, and still runs, I’m a cheapskate so when my brother upgrades to an ultrex on his triton, I’ll repurpose his fortrex lol
Had an xi3 that ran well. Hated the wireless foot pedal but at least they have one. MK doesn't for their salt models. MotorGuide is popular for the kayak folks too. Honestly it makes sense to just stick with Lowrance. MG was made to sync with Lowrance electronics and now lowrance has a motor. Should have seen it coming.
I had a Tour pro and it was the biggest pile of garbage I ever owned, had problems from day one and their customer service was terrible, no wonder they went out of business. I have had 2 Ultrex trolling motors and they have been flawless. The older MG trolling motors were pretty good, I still have one from 2010 or so on my smaller boat that works fine.
Evenrude was the best most durable saltwater trolling motor ever built. Simple reliable and durable . It would be considered industrial to todays standards .
I think the rollout is what killed them, they literally delayed the release of that unit 15 times and it was a running joke. The confidence of the unit was so low when it hit the shelves it was doomed to fail.
@ every weakend most issues come from improper installation like putting puck to close to metal objects causing interference most people don’t bother to read the manual
So are you a fan, or not a fan? Just kidding, I was going to buy one next week. Price and Motorguide works with my Lowrance fish finders. @legacyserviceprofessionals6955 thank you, I appreciate your input. I don't want to spend twice. Guess I'll wait to buy the Minn kota Terrova 24v with sonar and spot lock. Just won't be able to marry it into my existing system.

Bought mine and it has been goofed up since I have owned it. Support has been distant. Yeah have you done this? Yep. Over and over. Can I get a new board? Well.... maybe. Fuk it...
Wow I know 2 guys in our club bought the motor guide trolling motor because Bass Pro Shop was selling them for cheap money one our guys tried out my ultrex and he said he would not spend that much money but I think it’s the best motor out there I had the Fortrex before that and I beat the crap of out it and never had a problem at all

Thanks for the little plug, Andy! It was so freaking fun having yall! 2.5 hrs flew by!

Ive been running the same 60lb thrust Motorguide since 2000. Clean and lube it every season. Sorry to hear they are shutting down.

Too bad. I really, really liked my XI5 I had on my previous boat.
Have a 82 motorguide tour been a great motor no issues metal pedal love it. O well
Been running my Tour Pro for 2 years now, rock solid. Unlike everyone with a MK I know that has to replace their control boards every year.
I had a TR 82 on my first skeeter and I loved it metal foot pedal, cool look , wish I still had it
So I just purchased a Motorguide Tour Pro with PinPoint. It was priced waaaay below reasonable and was brand new. Ive used it a number of times now and at first, it was doing the motorguide rock but i turned the pedal over and it hasnt since

After owning the Xi5 and loving it. I feel it was about not being a direct part of a one boat net work and or a poor marketing department….

They should make a trolling motor that integrates to google maps you can plot a course on your phone and the motor follows it
Have had an Ulterra for four or five years, never used the foot pedal, mostly troll, follow the contour, spot lock. I think the foot pedal is buried in one of the front compartments.
I have never had a problem with my motor guides, keep the trolling motors and pass on the outboards,
I bought an xi5 and it was the biggest pos ever. Motorguide was dead to me after that 😂

More likely they would go work at minnkota. I thought they were both owned by Brunswick.

Yep I unfortunately had a Merc Thruster, we all just called them the coffee grinder. Very loud gear reduction motor.
I got the newer tour ! Love it ! Had many MG motors !! Never once had a issue ! Honestly! It isnt good news !!😮😮😮
I can't talk shit about motor guide. I have a 1988 model foot control that has out lasted 4 boats. Problem is the props are getting hard to find.
Loved my old Tour Edition, bought it used and used it on 2 different boats. Unlike Andy's I didn't have an issue bending the shaft. The motor guide still has the niche for bow mounted kayak motors

This isn't good for the fisherman. As the choices reduce price will go up because they will claim demand caused the increase.
Where were all these positive comments before they went outta business 😂.
No walleye guy ever ran them either.

Motorguide should have given up when the minnkota terrova hit. That's when they stopped being competitive.
Gotta engineer and innovate and get left behind.
Had x3 and x5 now i run a ulterra for some years and i getting more and more fat -for not running for and back but just watching it stow and deploy 😂😂

Minnkota is junk compared to Garmin.
Motor guide hasn’t been relevant for like 20 years now, if you ask me.
I agree totally. I mean even shaft-wise. They stayed metal when everyone else went black composite.
