- Nathan MacKinnon for the first time in his career scores his 50th goal of the season and not but moments later, MacKinnon puts home his 7th hat-trick of his NHL career. Tonight puts MacKinnon in 2nd in the entire NHL for points at 137. MacKinnon is only the 6th player in Colorado Avalanche history to record 50 goals on a season, following Mikko Rantanen last season.

@@ColoradoAvalanche I think all of you misread what I said. I was talking about the ESPN announcers. Normally when I see national (aka non Altitude) announcers they have some mad hate boner for the Avs. But this guy seemed to not hate them, and I liked that.
When Nate builds up speed in the neutral zone, you are DONE. He makes everyone look slow and useless.

It's one thing to have enough speed to skate by everyone... it's another thing to be able to have the kind of shot he does to finish those breakaways with the puck in the back of the net. What an incredible performance!!
Watching this live was a beautiful sports moment. Many beers were chugged on this great day
People can say what they want about Mackinnon vs McDavid... both are great. That being said, Mackinnon has the size to go with the insane speed and puck control. I look at them as 1A and 1B. People can argue about everyone else, but they are in a league of their own.

Forsberg was the strongest player with the puck I've ever seen. That guy would get tripped, control the puck, and deke out the goalie from his knees for fuck sakes. Haven't seen that before or since.

Interesting how hat trick is the one that seems to be celebrated a lot, while 50th is just, meh, someone scored 50, big deal.
"Anyone" can score a hat trick in NHL, there's nothing that special about it, while those 50 goal seasons are seriously an accomplishment.
Auston Matthews scores 66, and has a shit load of hat tricks, he’s been there done it and by passed McKinnon long time ago

@@USFirst1776 Since these goals always counts only the regular season, the number of cups is completely irrelevant. If you begin to argue the cups matter something, then you instantly voided MacKinnon's 50 goals (MacKinnon only has one goal this season in that case).

@@artokilponen6989 those goals helped send the Avs to the playoffs, but in the end the cup is all that matters. No hockey player would tell you that they don't care about not winning the cup.
