I loved the turbo scorpion build, top quality build/parts etc. I put the legendary series radio set in with a 15t motor. It flies!! My best looking 2wd without a doubt.
As much as I love Tamiya, the Kyosho reres are a cut above. The quality and attention to detail is outstanding, plus the modernising touches that you pointed out (fitting slippers to all the reres is a big one). I recently built a Turbo Optima and it is such a great kit. Good work withe new channel - looking forward to many more videos!
The slipper is a nice touch. You'll feel less bad landing from a jump and ripping out. This is always one of the best looking cars for me and I'm glad they brought these back. Looking forward to the finished car.
Love it, Glenn. The hardest bit of the build is wrapping the decals around the nose and getting it all aligned, also the steering the geometry is a little tricky to get perfect. Beautiful car though and can’t wait to see what you do with it 👍🏻
Not a bad start Glen!!!. Tamiya is what means something to me of course.. but the kyosho quality is unmistakable.. Again back in the day those kits would be so aspirational..
I had the original Kyosho Scorpion but I sold it. I wish I had not sold it. I sold it to someone in the UK, and he was happy. However, the name on my car was not Kyosho on the box. It was the Cox Scorpion but it was made by Kyosho. I think that Kyosho was not known in the USA so they were sold under the Cox brand. In fact many Kyosho products were sold under the Cox brand. I did buy the Kyosho re-release Scorpion. I bought all of the hop-up parts that Kyosho makes including the LEDs. I like the car. The bottom loading dampers are not good so I bought some Kyosho, top loading dampers. That was a good improvement. Thoughts?
I would paint the blue, it's not too hard to do on that scheme. The decals just never really go well (still good for people who don't want to paint though). I still think that chassis (Tomahawk, Beetle, Scorpion) is still one of the best looking buggies ever.
I have an original AND a re-release. I agree they are great looking. My re-release I picked up already built, but I don’t really like that it has so many decals. So, I’ve grabbed a few other option parts to try, including different coloured tubs, even a beetle body. However, I think I’m going to set it up with some carbon parts, including a flat chassis plate, and stick a Tomahawk body on it. Probably a 13.5 brushless setup, and then give it a run out at my local club. I could talk for a while about the rail chassis cars, but suffice to say, they are superb 🤩
Thanks for pointing out the quality in comparison to the tamiya ReRes - I really do love my Tamiya Kits for what they are and what they were in my youth. Quality-wise though, the Kyosho Kits are seriously way ahead - I wished Tamiya went this way too. Thanks for all you do for the community, Glenn! Best from Germany!
love this kit from the way its packaged to the way it looks, this really takes me back to a time when things just felt more special.. love the new channel and cannot wait to see more
Great presentation! Your both channels are the best when it comes to RC-cars. Love also your calm way of speaking. Keep on with the good work. Greetings from Austria.
This was my first new purchase Vintage Re-Re and besides just how cool it looked the fact that Kyosho updated it without really changing the look of the original was a major reason I went with it. I intended to drive it for that full experience, not just build it and stick it on a shelf. I have run mine on 3s and mild 21.5T brushless power. I highly recommend getting the rear universals I also got a set of Lunsford turnbuckles the optional motor plate and a few other goodies. I also picked up a set of F&R street tires as well as a set of rear sand paddle ones and a second set of wheels. The decals and servo saver were my only difficulties (that spring is tough 😂) but I loved how they precut the decals if I had the paint skills I definitely would have opted to paint the blue 🤙 Happy for the new Channel I’ve never been a hardcore Tamiya guy I was always a racer back in the day nowadays it’s fun to try and get those RC’s either I always wanted but couldn’t afford or get the opposite of what I raced back in the day just to experience the other side as well as those cars I probably never should have sold off
Cracking video Glenn! Like you, I have a lot of love for Tamiya, most of my collection are. However, kyosho cars are a joy to build and look at, they are way better engineered than most. Love this new channel by the way 👍.
building mine at the moment. done apart from the painting. keep changing my mind and the rain is back so delayed me further. I put plenty of thread lock on mine after seeing others come loose.
What a lovely kit 👌really excellent quality and how good are the extras and attention to detail? This is a great kit and so much in it for your money I’m really wanting to build one, I know you will do her justice and she’ll be outstanding 😎👍
Both Tamiya rere I’ve built (LB & MB) I’ve been disappointed they didn’t address the common faults and issues with the originals out of the box like Kyosho seem to do!
The Turbo Scorpion looks great, and I have also one kit to build for myself. In addition to it, I also have a Tomahawk kit, which in my opinion also looks great.
Looks great and agree with you on the reissue policy of gentle modification. You've had loads of stuff to build recently, so looking forward to more build and running videos!
Great video ! As you said in the video Tamiya predominantly made fun cars and Kyosho made race cars, different markets. My mate was running a turbo scorpion in vintage races but after a while found it all starting to get a bit sloppy on the front end, not sure if it’s common though. I have a pic of his scorpion and my blockhead wild one and they look stunning together
Thanks Andy 😎 Yeah this one is a bit before my time tbh, my first introduction into Kyosho was the Ultima, Raider and Mid, so this one is new ground for me 😅👊🏻
Awesome kit right there Glenn, i fall in love with the re-re Kyosho kits in there Legendary series i went out and bought 8 out of the nine and only need the Turbo Scorpion to have all nine re-re's so super chuffed with that ill post up some pics of the two i have built to date the Fantom 1:12 and the Scorpion both done in box art and i have given them a run each but would prefer to keep them in pristine as i really took my time and massive effort in the builds to get them right , in saying that i have driven the Fantom a few times as is hard not to its just like a MagLev the way it handles and surprisingly holds the road in grip wise considering it has no suspension what so ever just foam tires, but will be looking at getting one of these real soon cant wait for more awesome releases being brought to the channel and running and opinions to be shared just super cool to have a massive bunch of videos to look forward to each week now thats awesome and thanks for finally creating a channel that can allow you to post non Tamiya without the red ex through your TL logo he he he , again big congrats to the channel and support is right behind you my friend , cheers from Me
I bought the standard scorpion because I just loved its original look but like you I thought it was a bit dull look until I built it and it completely changed my mind😍 it is superb and those wheels are just stunning👍 when you take the diff out of the blister pack if I was you I'd still take it apart because my one didn't have any grease or oil in it🤷♂️
Loving the new channel and looking forward to seeing more non-Tamiya cars. I generally prefer the slightly later cars as those were what I saw being raced as a teenager (CAT XLS, Egress, Avante, Optima Mid, etc). Most of the older or cheaper stuff does little for me however this car is really stunning and it grew on me every time I saw it until I had to have one. The new deep dish rear wheels, beefier shocks and more realistic looking driver gave the appearance a nice lift too.
It looks super expensive with all the metal parts and the packaging was like old school Tamiya I think it will be a great buggy . Good luck with the new channel I will be watching!! Lol
Brilliant start to the channel!👍. A wonderful looking car and im so glad they put a better driver in the 're-re'. If this is just a taste of things to come, then you're gunna need a bigger display cabinet!!! Brilliant stuff!!!😉👍
Use a heat gun or a hair dryer on the decals if you're having trouble with them lifting or peeling. The Decals on my tomahawk wouldn't stay down around the window frames. Some gentle heat and pressure will make them conform to the curves and they won't give any more trouble :)
All the Kyosho Legendary Series kits have decals that are missing the licenced brands from the originals (except Goodyear) and have made-up stuff that looks similar instead. MCI or Marwan do reproductions of the originals.
My Ultima ReRe has.an 8.5T Reedy, and it seriously SCOOTS down the front straight at the track... I may run it one or two more timea this summer in races, and then it will likely be put away for a bit... I want to save it for a few specific races, like the Hank Perry 240, which started in 87, the year the original came out... The wheels for this Turbo Scorpion kit are 2.2" ... which is nice to be able to get extras and fit modern tires from JConcepts or Proline....
Love the kyosho vintage collection have built a few very different to tamiya biggest hate for me are the e clips on the shock there bigger and harder so can go flying easier and there aent many spares the decal sheets are ace so many extras the turbo optimal even comes with pre cut masks to do the two tone red and white
So, it happened......... found one and did the click thing.. my first Kyosho is heading my way. Having an RC sort out as really want to start my channel this summer...
Hi Glenn, good to see you doing this channel and doing other brands. I like your wing it approach to a lot of your videos but I think with some stuff a bit of added research would be useful. For example if you are going to mention the turbo vs standard Kyosho range then I, (and maybe only me so it doesn't matter) would like to know the specific differences between the standard Scorpion and the turbo version. Maybe not vintage as that could be conjecture because as we know Kyosho are doing brilliant job of updating their models. Knowing the differences between the legendary series would be good if you are specifically mentioning it. For example it might have a longer chassis, thicker track rod ends, a superior differential, etc. If I am asking too much I apologise but it is only because I expect a lot from you Sir because you are blooming brilliant. :-) If your answer is compare it yourself then fair play :-)
Hey thanks for the channel feedback Mark, it’s always nice to get this style of comment 🤓 I think the issue I have is, I really only like to talk about things I actually know if that makes sense 🤔 Obviously I couldn’t just Google all that information and read it off a piece of paper but then I would just be RC Kicks 🤣🤣🤣 My only goal doing this is to be 100% genuine, I fear just reading information to you would make me feel like a fraud 🤔 But as I said I really do appreciate your feedback and I’ll 100% give it some more thought 😎👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 Haha, good little sporting kick at RC Kicks there. Hey if you really want to take Gavin on perhaps start talking at 100 mph too. I bet he loves the banter really. :-) I totally agree with your reasoning Glenn and yes you stay as you are and your authentic self. If you know it, you know, if you don't you don't. I get your point. To be fair if you had a go at quantum physics I'm sure a lot of us would still watch. People bang on about USP. Well my friend you have P&P and it isn't postage and packing. It is passion and personality. That's why I watch, that's why I will continue to.
Yeah , I definitely agree the Kyosho kits seem to be a little higher end than the Tamiya kits , unless you get an Avante or Egress TF EVO. The Kyosho build is different to , doesn’t seem to make you build every little thing which makes it easier and faster. They also seem to be more durable. I have the Ultima and the Scorpion and really like both . Optima Mid next .
I came here by accident, because yt knows I'm thinking about getting a Turbo Scorpion for a while now, so I may not know you mean a special FAV... :D But, I owned a FAV and did what I never did with a RC car: I sold it, after a short time too. :/ It's a really pretty Buggy, but even with upgraded shocks (RC4WD old man emu are fitting) the driving is very underwhelming. Both offroad and onroad (with F1 tires conversion ^^) I only had a brushed cup machine in it, but even this thing brought the chassis to it's limits. It's more a fun scaly cruiser than for fast driving I'd say. My guess, and from what I have seen in videos, the Turbo Scorpion is waaaaaaay better in this regards.
@@MegaSockenschuss My FAV got oil shocks from the wild one, a mild motor and pinion and I must say I didn't want to drive it too hard and break it! The Scorpian looks like it can be driven much harder and will be a lot more durable - maybe I will have to hunt down Scorpian and drive them side by side to find out 😊
You can see why the price is a bit high than some other kits as it's proper quality, with hardly any plastic. Don't own a Kyosho yet but think I will in the near future 👍. Wow what a decal set as well, Brilliant one Glenn 😁👍
Yeah it’s a different league from most Tamiya’s Wayne, but that’s not to say that’s a bad thing for Tamiya. I always thought Kyosho aimed for a slightly different market 🧐🙏🏻
@@RCLegends2022 a wealthier customer lol, I used to racing against Kyosho with my topcat and never managed to beat them (I was only 12 but still) top quality kits that's for sure Glenn 👍
Great video Glenn! -I wouldn't mind the original Scorpion for my collection :) -looking at those new Rims in the Turbo re-re kit, I'm wondering if Kyosho are giving you the option of painting a portion of them black? - to imitate the original high profile tyres? -sure I've seen that done somewhere ...
@@RCLegends2022 -just throwing some brain farts out there, and wondered what you thought 😊 -not here to tell you how to do your job mate 😊 all the best from Blighty 😉
Loved the video! I am a Kyosho fan and I am glad you stated the quality of the Kyosho kits is great 👍🏼 Tamiya do better bodies but are nowhere near the quality. Looking forward to your next video, keep it up!
I really like the standard Scorpion but Kyosho really did do a shocking job on the boxart! It looks s..t to be honest! But in the flesh its a cool looking buggy but yes the Turbo looks very nice indeed though and better then the Standard! I totally get what you say about tamiya vs kyosho they are kinda like rugby and Football both ball sports but different! Great vid Glenn loving the channel 👍 Fantastic my friend! Cheers James.
@@RCLegends2022We are still feeling rough but 10% better so we will take that👍 Appreciate you asking thanks you are a real star mate thanks. Your channels are really great l must add appreciate your time your investment in them and long may they continue 🤩🤩🤩 I can't wait for more on the Ninja😉👍
I really like this kit. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it :) I used to have a standard Scorpion and it handled really well. I drove it on the massive long stay car park at Charmouth beach and it was so much fun. Until I ripped a tyre off :D
The latest crop of turbo optima has a spare parts bag but no chain. It had the parts to build the kit for chain but no chain. I was bummed out over that
@@RCLegends2022 if I recall correctly the first batch of optimas and javelin and turbo optima all came with both belt and chain. Now it's belt only and the spot where the chain went in the blister pack just has a note saying to buy the chain extra
Great job my friend👌! For a first kyosho build, I think I would try those precut stickers as is? Maybe it's easier than the tamiyas🤔? Love the new setup 😍
I started with tamiya ,the hornet in 85. Then got an Optima . The quality is far superior to tamiya . Love the old school kits of the 80's . The Ultima and mid would destroy the equivalent buggies from tamiya. But still love them all 👌
I have the original Kyosho Turbo Scorpion and Ultima, both NIB. Are they worth a lot more than the re-releases? I bought both of them when they were on clearance sales back in 90's and never built them. Just need to bring them home across the ocean, though (still sitting in my parents' house in Japan).
This one next for me maybe, I was wondering what is that long strip for in bag D? (there was one with the ultima and javelin but no mention of its purpose in the manual that I could find)
Hi Glenn! Congrats on the new channel. The decals are difficult to completely seal down. My Beetle 's decals (in places), have lifted!! I have again in places painted parts on the outside and it looks (imo) a lot better!! You will love the build and it is a really quick build. Please check my kit here my friend! Cool video as always my friend. You will always have my support bud!!
These Legendary series kits are miniature works of art. The OG Scorpion kit isn't as good as this one, the red shocks that come with this kit are far superior to the smaller bore silver shocks, which leak badly no matter how you build them. I have one of these in the box, and a built Scorp and Ultima(with the nice red shocks!) I felt the original Scorpion needed some extra character so I added a couple of tapered chisel nosed stripes down the front of the body from the forecastle to the nose, made it look sharp!
April is me just showing you what I have on the channel, but in April I’m actually building and running stuff so those videos will be out in May my friend 😅👊🏻

Brilliant start to the channel!👍. A wonderful looking car and im so glad they put a better driver in the 're-re'. If this is just a taste of things to come, then you're gunna need a bigger display cabinet!!! Brilliant stuff!!!😉👍
Hey thanks for watching my friend 🤩🤩🤩
Use a heat gun or a hair dryer on the decals if you're having trouble with them lifting or peeling. The Decals on my tomahawk wouldn't stay down around the window frames. Some gentle heat and pressure will make them conform to the curves and they won't give any more trouble :)
Kyosho needs to make a Tomahawk Turbo!
Haha I think that ship has sailed my friend 🤣👊🏻
Thanks for watching 😊👊🏻
All the Kyosho Legendary Series kits have decals that are missing the licenced brands from the originals (except Goodyear) and have made-up stuff that looks similar instead. MCI or Marwan do reproductions of the originals.
Fantastic information Andy, thanks for clearing that up for me 😊👊🏻
My Ultima ReRe has.an 8.5T Reedy, and it seriously SCOOTS down the front straight at the track...
Excellent thanks for watching Craig 😊😊😊
Hey thanks for the channel feedback Mark, it’s always nice to get this style of comment 🤓
I think the issue I have is, I really only like to talk about things I actually know if that makes sense 🤔
Obviously I couldn’t just Google all that information and read it off a piece of paper but then I would just be RC Kicks 🤣🤣🤣
My only goal doing this is to be 100% genuine, I fear just reading information to you would make me feel like a fraud 🤔
But as I said I really do appreciate your feedback and I’ll 100% give it some more thought 😎👊🏻
Ultima 😍😍😍
Thanks for watching Eric 😊👊🏻
Looks like a quality kit Glenn, intetested in how the drive compares to the FAV 😎👍
Hmmm yeah interesting question I’m guessing they were out around the same time 🧐🤷🏼♂️
I came here by accident, because yt knows I'm thinking about getting a Turbo Scorpion for a while now, so I may not know you mean a special FAV... :D
But, I owned a FAV and did what I never did with a RC car: I sold it, after a short time too. :/
It's a really pretty Buggy, but even with upgraded shocks (RC4WD old man emu are fitting) the driving is very underwhelming. Both offroad and onroad (with F1 tires conversion ^^)
I only had a brushed cup machine in it, but even this thing brought the chassis to it's limits.
Wow what a decal set as well,
Brilliant one Glenn 😁👍
Yeah it’s a different league from most Tamiya’s Wayne, but that’s not to say that’s a bad thing for Tamiya. I always thought Kyosho aimed for a slightly different market 🧐🙏🏻
@@RCLegends2022 a wealthier customer lol, I used to racing against Kyosho with my topcat and never managed to beat them (I was only 12 but still) top quality kits that's for sure Glenn 👍
Great video Glenn! -I wouldn't mind the original Scorpion for my collection :)
-looking at those new Rims in the Turbo re-re kit, I'm wondering if Kyosho are giving you the option of painting a portion of them black? - to imitate the original high profile tyres?
-sure I've seen that done somewhere ...
Oh yeah well spotted Ben you could be right my friend 😊👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 -just throwing some brain farts out there, and wondered what you thought 😊 -not here to tell you how to do your job mate 😊 all the best from Blighty 😉
Loved the video! I am a Kyosho fan and I am glad you stated the quality of the Kyosho kits is great 👍🏼 Tamiya do better bodies but are nowhere near the quality. Looking forward to your next video, keep it up!
Excellent Matthew I’ve got more Kyosho on the way my friend 😊😊😊
I really like the standard Scorpion but Kyosho really did do a shocking job on the boxart! It looks s..t to be honest! But in the flesh its a cool looking buggy but yes the Turbo looks very nice indeed though and better then the Standard!
I totally get what you say about tamiya vs kyosho they are kinda like rugby and Football both ball sports but different!
Great vid Glenn loving the channel 👍
Fantastic my friend! Cheers James.
How are you both today my friend?
@@RCLegends2022We are still feeling rough but 10% better so we will take that👍
Appreciate you asking thanks you are a real star mate thanks.
Your channels are really great l must add appreciate your time your investment in them and long may they continue 🤩🤩🤩
I can't wait for more on the Ninja😉👍
I still have two of the red Kyosho rc bag they gave out with the purchase of a rc car. I don't have the car anymore but I still use the bags
I really like this kit. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it :) I used to have a standard Scorpion and it handled really well. I drove it on the massive long stay car park at Charmouth beach and it was so much fun. Until I ripped a tyre off :D
Hey Tom 👋🏻
Thanks for watching and commenting my friend 🤩👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 Never miss any of your videos Glenn, you're doing a great job on this channel.
I’ve never owned a kyosho but would like one for a large gravel car park in my village. What would people recommend?
I think I’m a little biased but have a look at the re release Kyosho Ultima Chris 🤩🤩🤩
If I could only have one Kyosho , the turbo optima is hard to beat. It’s a work of art with all the gold alloy
I run my rere Turbo Scorpion with brushless and 3S without any issues, the fan on the ESC is a tight fit though.
The latest crop of turbo optima has a spare parts bag but no chain. It had the parts to build the kit for chain but no chain. I was bummed out over that
Yeah I’ve found that myself recently I’ll definitely be ordering the chain for mine at some point.
Thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 if I recall correctly the first batch of optimas and javelin and turbo optima all came with both belt and chain. Now it's belt only and the spot where the chain went in the blister pack just has a note saying to buy the chain extra
Great job my friend👌! For a first kyosho build, I think I would try those precut stickers as is? Maybe it's easier than the tamiyas🤔? Love the new setup 😍
Thanks Peter 😊😊😊
Great channel Glenn, do kyosho supply motors in their kit like Tamiya ? 👍
nope !
No ESC or motor is supplied in the Kyosho kits, but they do come with full bearings
Thanks for watching Craig 😊👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 👊
@@JeffersonHumber ok , thanks
Lovely kit ! Just makes you want to get one
Would go for painting the blue but is there spare decals such as the red line, the number 20 etc ?
Yeah it’s something I’m going to have a look at once I start the build Peter 😅👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 looking forward to see the build 👍👍
Glenn the radiobox isn't structural as the chassis is two long alloy rails
Good to know thanks Lee 😊👊🏻
I agree Glenn. The standard scorpion is not a great looking buggy. We have a turbo they are fantastic
How many cars do you actually have Lee?
I started with tamiya ,the hornet in 85. Then got an Optima . The quality is far superior to tamiya . Love the old school kits of the 80's . The Ultima and mid would destroy the equivalent buggies from tamiya. But still love them all 👌
Love my Tamiyas but Kyosho far exceeds them in fit and finish.
My advice paint the shell...the decals can be finicky and really test your patience
Excellent thanks for the feedback Bruce 😊👊🏻
I have the original Kyosho Turbo Scorpion and Ultima, both NIB. Are they worth a lot more than the re-releases? I bought both of them when they were on clearance sales back in 90's and never built them. Just need to bring them home across the ocean, though (still sitting in my parents' house in Japan).
This one next for me maybe, I was wondering what is that long strip for in bag D? (there was one with the ultima and javelin but no mention of its purpose in the manual that I could find)
I love thar North accent....
Boogy = buggy
Oop = up
Etc
Great vid
Haha yeah I think sometimes you viewers would be better with subtitles when I’m speaking 🤣👊🏻

Thanks for the great comment my friend 😊👊🏻
These Legendary series kits are miniature works of art. The OG Scorpion kit isn't as good as this one, the red shocks that come with this kit are far superior to the smaller bore silver shocks, which leak badly no matter how you build them. I have one of these in the box, and a built Scorp and Ultima(with the nice red shocks!) I felt the original Scorpion needed some extra character so I added a couple of tapered chisel nosed stripes down the front of the body from the forecastle to the nose, made it look sharp!
Fantastic information as usual Lee, thanks for watching and sharing this with us 🤩👊🏻
Looks pretty close too the original sponsor decals which mci racing does sell by the looks of it.
Excellent thanks for watching 😊👊🏻
where did you get your copy? I can't find one anywhere? Thanks for uploading the great content bro.
I think I was just on eBay at the right time 😅👊🏻
Never noticed the letter K in the rear gearbox mounting plate 🤔
No idea 🤔🤷🏼♂️
When will we see it run?
April is me just showing you what I have on the channel, but in April I’m actually building and running stuff so those videos will be out in May my friend 😅👊🏻
Going to get an Ultima??! oh yah!!
Yeah if I can save up some rc tokens that’s the next one 😊
@@RCLegends2022 what the heck are RC tokens?
@@GordoDrummer
Money 🤣👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 oh my God! How could I not figure that one out. And it makes total sense. One of the only things money is good for.
Are you going to build a regular scorpion and the beetle?
Hey Brad 👋🏻
To be very honest my friend I don’t know, it all depends on money now and I don’t have any 🤕🤕🤕
@@RCLegends2022 like me you get a lot of generous folks who help you out. I have the beetle one and that's my next car to put together after I'm totally finished with my super hot shot. You've been in Canada for a lot of years now I'm surprised you haven't been able to get a job it's quite discerning to me that they would do that to you you're basically a full-fledged Canadian.

gostei muito kkkkkkk 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 🇧🇷
You should be able to fit a 4000 milliamp pack in there that's a lipo from gartpot.
Compared to a tamiya kit this kyosho comes across as a smart price kit,pre-built for all the potatoes whom can't build even stickle bricks......
Haha Potatos 🤣👊🏻
