This was exactly what I needed! I bought an after-market control board replacement and it fit perfectly and only took a couple minutes to install. So thankful for this video! 🎉
Thank you so much for this video. I called the only appliance repair man around here and he didn't want to do it, he said "you can do it it's easy". I couldn't have done it without your help.
I've never commented on a video before. Having had to replace the PCB on my fridge twice now, I figured I should really take 30 seconds to say thanks. Clear and helpful video that has saved my bacon...twice now.
Thanks so much Steve! All programmed ready to go! You have saved me $500+ repair! The only difference with my fridge is that at the end of the process I had to hold down the freezer button for three seconds before my numbers were flashing after programming at the end of the procedure. Again much appreciated!
Thank you so much. I just replaced this with a new one from Amazon. I had a fridge that this broke and it cost me $400 to replace about 10 years ago. The part cost $85 and the labor was over $300. I did this myself for $30! Thanks so much for this great tutorial!
Thank you Steve! Our whirlpool WRF535SMBM00 recently stopped cooling both fridge and freezer. I noticed that the temperature control buttons were not lighting up. When I removed the board I noticed a couple spots were burned up. Purchased the jazz board M+ on amazon for $35 and now it is working like new! This video saved me a ton of money and headaches, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Followed this instruction video and it worked perfectly on our Maytag Gold fridge. Fingers crossed 🤞 that this extends the life of our fridge as opposed to expense replacement!
How could anyone put a thumbs down to you. The easiest repair I have ever done. Maybe remind idiots like me to follow all your instructions on programming the fridge when done. I forgot the last down arrow for the freezer, but found out it is OK to start all over again. Thank you.
I saw few videos already that left some unanswered questions. Yours was fantastic! I followed it without ant uncertainty and now the fridge is working like new. Saved me $400 (the repairman wanted $700 to do it!) Thank you.
Awesome video and helped save me some major $. The board can be had online from a major retailer for cheap. Man those tabs that hold the control panel housing are a super pain. I ended up taking off the whole housing to get them off. Luckily I was able to put it back up there as the tabs for it weren't too broken. I highly recommend that a super wide and short flathead for the job. I didn't have one and it was late at night.
The circuit board is ESD (electrostatic discharge sensitive) and should never be placed on a piece of carpet or handled with rubber gloves. To understand the ESD hazard, think about walking down a carpeted hall in the winter when the humidity is low, and then you press the button on the elevator, or touch a doornob. Spark! You picked up a static charge walking on the carpet. ESD is best controlled by keeping things away from any insulators like carpet or rubber. The best procedure is to keep the board on its ESD-safe packaging, which is usually some kind of pink or green bubble wrap. These colors indicate the ESD-safe property. When you go to install the board, the best idea would be to mist or dip the plastic frame and your hands in water to make them slightly conductive, place the board and its bubble wrap on the plastic frame to equalize the voltages, then remove the bubble wrap and install the board. Dab off any water droplets before reinstalling the board and frame into the fridge.
Great helpful video my only suggestion is I would use a ground wrist wrap ($3-$5 any PC hardware store) instead of rubber gloves and carpeting that is what I do when handling any circuit board. Unfortunately, my 2-year-old Maytag had a failed compressor and evaporator fan and although the board was also bad (tested with multimeter), the total fix would be close to a new unit. So instead, I just purchased a GE Garage fridge and moved away from Maytag as the warranty was useless and not honored! Times have changed previously I would expect 10-15 from a good fridge now I am replacing multiple appliances almost every 5 years due crappy components being used this is also true of high-end brands like Viking and wolf it is what it is I guess thankfully people like this help us out with quick fixes for crappy components. Kudos to a great video you are a true gem to take time out to help people with this!
Quick question, the freezer works great, the fan for the refrigerator part doesn't seem to be coming on, nor is the frig getting cold. Is that a sign of a bad board? I don't think it's a iced up coil, we left the appliance unplugged for several hours, then plugged it in, ran it through the "reset procedure" and it still isn't cooling the frig.
Any reason why these things keep going out? This is the second time I've had to replace it in the last four years. Do we need to clean the coils and other components more often that like once a year? Could that be a contributing factor? Thanks for the video and, hopefully a response.
Great video. I'm glad you mentioned the board is ESD sensitive. Is that an ESD protective rug you have the board sitting on? Rubber gloves can also hold a charge.
The previous owner must have removed the tag that had the program number on it. Do you know how many codes there are? I would likely have to try many if not all of them.
Thanks! FYI I put in the new control, powered on and almost fainted because the control was dark! I took it out and put it back in and thought maybe static electricity fried the board. Then I took it out again and noticed that I had put the small board with the buttons and LEDs in BACKWARDS!, I reversed it and everything was working fine. Phew! Also, glad I watched your video otherwise I know I would have broken one of those plastic tabs.
GReat explanation, easy programming, but I have a WHIRLPOOL Model WRF 555SDFZ which has no code in the label.....can you tell me what to do then ? Please, I need the answer because tomorrow I am installing a new board but without programming I will get nothing. Thanks in advance,,,,,Ramon Perera, Miami
very helpful! Took a leap of faith to force the lamp cover back -- it took a fair amount of force. Also, I agree with "bib" (below), use a good size flat screw driver to push the panel housing tabs back. Bon chance!
I have a KRFF305ESS, there is a control board accessible from the back of the fridge, trying to diagnose a defrost issue, the control board was tested and supposedly fine, is there another one in the fridge center console as in this video ?
Thanks, just replaced mine and it works great. Like the others said, need a fairly large screwdriver to force tabs back, a small one would not work. Troy
I used this procedure to replace a Whirlpool PN W16022940 Board(Jazz 14 chip) in My Maytag Refrigerator model MBF2256HEW ( Bottom freezer drawer). This is the third one I have replaced over a period twelve years.
my freezer is super cold (-28°C) and got iced up even with the temperature set to 1 (lowest temp), the compressor never stop but the fresh product section is the right temperature. I read that there is a good chance it is that control board but I also read in other places that it could only be a thermistor which is way cheaper. Any of you guys got issue like mine and got it fixed by replacing the control board ?
Thank you, Steve. Would never have figured out how to get control panel off! I have KitchenAid KBFS20ETSS01 with control board WPW10207861 but principle is the same.
Thanks, Steve. Your videos are excellent. So clear, calm and easy to follow. First I changed the thermostat, followig your step-by-step instructions. But the bets in the freezer drawer frosted up again. So I bt the bullet and bought the more expensive electric control board. It was much easier to install. (Again thanks to your excellent demonstration.) Now I'll need to wait three days to see if the problem is solved. If not, I guess I'll need to look up the video on replacing the heating element! PS On the thermostat video I think you forgot to tell us to shut off the water before removing the ice maker. Or maybe that's not necessary? I did, just to be sure.
my whirlpool has this jazz board. The defrost heater comes on and stays on for a complete defrost like it should but only in forced defrost mode. it will not automatically defrost, but putting it into forced mode once daily and letting it run works fine. so why??? A. The defrost heater and defrost thermostat are working properly. B. The control board IO and relays are working properly. the only thing left is the software on the board is not commanding the defrost mode automatically. Seems like they are purposely programmed to fail every 2 years like clockwork so you have to buy a new one. Forced defrost mode and automatic defrost mode both use the same IO on the board and the same exact physical hardware is used to complete a cycle. So not automatically doing this proves to me it is intentional software programming preventing or turning off the automatic defrosting of the refrigerator causing wasted electricity and spoiled food. am i missing something here???
When ordered, the motherboard comes in one solid piece with instructions: it must be snapped by technician using ESD procedures. Maybe this was skipped over when making this video? Hmmm methinks it were.
The locking tabs are difficult to push open but there's no need to struggle getting them open,. Just place the tip of the screwdriver above the tab and then push up on the screwdriver handle. That uses leverage to bend the tabs forward with little effort.
I just swapped out the control board showd temperature for a minute then went funky like previous one also 8 hahe to hold buttons to manually start fans I hear yet she not cooling then fan will go off I wonder if compressor or reley or more
Hello, I checked all functions manually with Jazz service menu and all the tests passed successfully, but from some reason when I closed the fridge door the compressor turned off, please advise. Thank you
thank you soooooo very much i was able to replace the board myself. it is really easy, you saved me a lot o money!!!!! thank you guys for making this videos :D
My Maytag control was replaced 18 months after I bought and again 13 years later this second time. I am pretty sure it was due to lightning strikes. I plan to put the frig on a UPS with enough wattage to handle the motor, if possible, or at lease a surge protector.
Ok we replaced the board it worked for about 3 days, went back out, then started working again? When it went out we immediately ordered a new frig. Anybody else have this problem?
This was exactly what I needed! I bought an after-market control board replacement and it fit perfectly and only took a couple minutes to install. So thankful for this video! 🎉
Thank you. People like you that take the time to show procedures like this in every detail are real heroes.
Thank you so much for this video. I called the only appliance repair man around here and he didn't want to do it, he said "you can do it it's easy". I couldn't have done it without your help.
Followed your steps and it went perfectly. Saved about $350 in parts markups and labor. Was $27.00 for controller on Amazon.
I've never commented on a video before. Having had to replace the PCB on my fridge twice now, I figured I should really take 30 seconds to say thanks. Clear and helpful video that has saved my bacon...twice now.

Steve I appreciate your video so much. I fixed it myself. A repairman quoted me $500 to do this. That's a month of groceries for my family!
Glad it helped! This is why we make these videos! Thanks for watching!
This video should win an Oscar for "Best useful step-by-step guide to fix your fridge 2020"

Could you give a link to the amazon jazz board M+ you purchased. It didn't come up when I put the link in the search engine.
Followed this instruction video and it worked perfectly on our Maytag Gold fridge. Fingers crossed 🤞 that this extends the life of our fridge as opposed to expense replacement!

Thank you so much for this video. We save over hundreds dollars off diagnostic and repair services. now my beers cold again! Ordered OEM PCB. 🤟🤟🤟🍻
Excellent video. Worked EXACTLY like you demonstrated. You helped me fix my refrigerator for $159. THANK YOU!
You just helped me fix my fridge, start to finish. Thank you, this was absolutely perfect.
Thank you so much, help me fix my fridge in no time and without having to spend a lot of money or time.
Thanks for the video. I replaced the board and the fridge started working right away. Do I still need to program it?
Went to a customer's house, said I am bringing one flathead screwdriver only, lol got it done, and programmed! Thankyou steve!

Thanks for the help buddy. Got my fridge up and running again!

Thanks, really well done replacement instructions! Pulling the panel down is the tough part as the whole thing wants to pull down with it.

Thank You! repairman quoted me $450 You saved me $418
Truly appreciated
This is a really great instructional video. Very clear, easy to understand and put into action myself. Thanks so much.
I'm a mechanical dufus, but this was so step-by-step clear that even I was able to do this.
Thanks! FYI I put in the new control, powered on and almost fainted because the control was dark! I took it out and put it back in and thought maybe static electricity fried the board. Are there different versions of the ADV for US and EU voltage?
Thank you for this video. Following your instructions was easy and concise. Took all of 10 minutes to complete task.
This is perfect. Just what I needed to feel like I could handle it.
If my board is bad will there be a line where numbers were???
Thanks, just replaced mine and it works great. Like the others said, need a fairly large screwdriver to force tabs back, a small one would not work. Troy
Not all heroes wear capes! Thanks Steve!
I used this procedure to replace a Whirlpool PN W16022940 Board(Jazz 14 chip) in My Maytag Refrigerator model MBF2256HEW ( Bottom freezer drawer). This is the third one I have replaced over a period twelve years.
Very low audio. Wow! That carpet is static producer, you place the ckt board! How you determined that it needs a new control board?
Thank you so much for the video. Part is installed with your help and fingers crossed that's all that was wrong. 😊
Thank you for this! Fixed my fridge like magic

How did you know the pcb board was faulty?
How did you determine the control board was bad? I don't want to waste my money on one if that's not the problem.
Excellent video sir ! Just the information I was craving for. Thanks.

Is waiting 3 days required?
Maintenance calls best resource
If the digital thermometer lights dont come on at all is that the jazz board?
Hi . my 2003 sxs kenmore does not have power on compressor and fan. what is the problem, thanks
do you need to do program the code if you're just transporting the fridge to another home. Not changing any parts???
Thank you SO MUCH!! You just saved us a fortune!
You are welcome!
How would you know if the static electricity fried the board? Any indication?
my whirlpool has this jazz board. The defrost heater comes on and stays on for a complete defrost like it should but only in forced defrost mode. it will not automatically defrost, but putting it into forced mode once daily and letting it run works fine.

Can the board be repaired?
YOU SIR ARE THE MANNNNN. you saved me alot of $$$$$$$ by showing me how to do this simple job. Everything works like new. Thx✌🏼
Thank you. The very best how to install this board. It was exactly as you stated.
Thank you very much for the video, it helped me a lot, I managed to solve my problem with the refrigerator.

thank you guys for making this videos :D
What makes the computer board go bad?
Thank you so much! This video saved my (refrigerator) life! :)
Felix Gonzalez
The green light on the refrigerator side of control panel not working, how do I replace?
YOU SAVED MY LIFE
Our serial number sticker is missing- we've searched the entire fridge. Anyone have a program code we could try to start our control board?
Thankyou for this video. Quite helpful
Like a glove, thanks!
Thank you so much. Very useful video .Great job 👍👍👍
Hi i just replace board control but the frigde still freezer. Anyone can help? Thanks
Supposed the refrigerator is up and down? How do you replace the board?
How do you know it bad? Mine has minus signs
same here
Thank you for this video! It was very well done and made the job very easy.
Thanks Steve!
Thanks! Great instructional video!
You could have used a little bit of tape to hold the door switches down.
Best video so far!!!
never put PCBs on static infested rug. There are electro static sensitive components on the board.
K
I was literally thinking the same thing when i see this board on the rug lol 😂
Bought my Amana fridge have had to replace this thing 3 times now
My Maytag control was replaced 18 months after I bought and again 13 years later this second time. I am pretty sure it was due to lightning strikes. I plan to put the frig on a UPS with enough wattage to handle the motor, if possible, or at lease a surge protector.
