This guys fr had the best band name ever, because they do still represent that name w their sound to this day. One of the best bands to ever get as popular and influential as them.
@@janhoggart I would like to know which video you talking about, cuz I genuinely don't remember ever commenting anything about the Beatles in my entire life lmao
I saw Sonic headline in the mid 90s. They were incredible live. A total surreal experience. I wouldn’t say their my fav, but certainly among bands I like a lot.
this is just fucking amazing. I understand why Kurt liked them so much. Sonic Youth were seeking something different in the 80s, they were honest, experimental and they were not mincing their words when it came to criticize anything
me too. Maybe Mark Ibold could Bass for Kim until she feels comfortable being in a band, and seperates the emotions from being in a relationship? Or are they all just to close? And its a long gone dream?
It's great to see how SY weave together their creative resources to create the perfect show. It's almost like SY are reborn in artistic Talent. So lucky to see a great band find their perfect day.
Really cool, thanks! I’m glad The Algorithm (blessings and peace upon it) decided to throw this my way! I think this was the most polite I’ve seen them in interviews from the more early years, though I also can’t say I’ve watched a ton. Whatever the case, I wish stuff like this still existed on television, or online (it probably does, but idk where to look), and I wish Macy’s still did that video thing, and I wish I knew where to sing in one of those booths. I adore Ciccone Youth’s covers on that album, though I’m more partial to Thurston singing “Into The Groove” (or “groovey”). Anyway, I guess I should shut the fvck up. Thank you! 🙏✌️
That Glenn Branca footage looks incredible. It's so hard to hear anything from the 1983/84/Symphony 4 time- would love to see more footage of this and related concerts.
There have been bits and pieces of 'Physics' I've found and lost on RUclips over the years. The Arleen Schloss tour diary is pretty interesting, and shows a bit of Thurston and Lee, and snippets of music: ruclips.net/video/snWveI-MdSw/видео.html But I've never come across full Symphony 4 performance anywhere.. That's a major shame because the parts I've heard are really exciting, musically. My dream is to go back in time and attend one of those performances, haha
@@electrikkar, but instantly adored everything I listened to.. If only there were a time machine that we could access, I could spend a decade easily just bouncing around to attend various concerts, from the infamous opening night of “The Rite of Spring”, to Bird’s heyday helping create bebop, to Trane’s ballistic free playing, to Warhol’s Exploding Plastic Inevitable VU parties/shows, every Bowie variant of the 70s, plus CAN, Neu, Faust, all the krautrock, to every essential New York scene/band in the 70s and 80s… basically the lyrics to “I’m Losing My Edge”, like all those band mentioned (that’s an LCD Soundsystem track, in case you don’t know what I mean)… I could spend a massive chunk of life just floating from experience to experience, not that I’m not excited by current art and music, but it’s hard to not feel like I missed out on all the greatest shows, bands, scenes, etc, that will ever be. Anyway, sorry for such a long reply, but I appreciate the link and recommendations, and will definitely be checking this out! ✌️
I think it was meant more in way like “you’re not trying to impress other bassists or join master musicians, just do your own thing” which would make sense
Courtney Love doesn’t have any street cred = 0.0% Kim, on the other hand, is ALL street cred = 100% If they came out and played in 2023, Kim would solidify her status as a rock superstar forever! And the other guys could ride on her coattails along with her.
Rumor was she lived above the liquor store on Hill st. I seem to remember Some kids approaching her and complimenting her brother and she wasn’t nice and yelled at them.
it was profoundly relevant at the time albeit looking back one could suggest they we're moreso an experimental band that opened the doors for the shape of things to follow.
A band who I find a lot of their music unlistenable, but are still my second favourite band ever!
Lol Yeah, it's fun and games writing a bunch of songs in alternate tunings until you're at baggage claim lmao

I love Lee Ranaldo's first speech. Fantastic firsthand summary .
I realize that Sonic Youth and Nirvana actually are to me somehow what Stones and Beatles were to my father
Sonic Youth introduced us even to Karaoke ('koroci-boots') in this video around 16:50. They were so hip.
I've never seem this video, it's really a gem. Thanks a lot for posting it!
YOU'RE a gem.
Solid gold incredible footage of this iconic band. Some hate it, some love it... whatever you feel like y know
Saw this video on an unofficial released video cd called "screaming fields of sonic love" 25 years ago. Raw and great live !
