    Film Brain refuses to chill out about this animated franchise that's well past it's sell-by date - and completely out of ideas, for that matter.

    You really called it in your last review of an Ice Age movie
    "Next time, it'll be Sid's turn to get a love interest!"

    Funny thing about Sid having a love interest; deleted scenes from the first film show there was an entire subplot completely animated then cut involving Sid trying to get away from an overbearing girlfriend of his who dumps him just before the halfway point of the movie then never shows up again.

    The sad thing is, the first sequel did a good job at continue the quality of the original, and hte 3rd one had it's moments and the best scrat subplot but the 4th and this one just add NOTHING and only waste space at the cinemas every few years.

    Remember when Ice Age was a perfectly passable animated family movie that adults could actually enjoy quite a bit? But it made huuuuge amounts of money in the overseas market so they keep on churning them out.

    I watched this movie today, and while it did give me a few chuckles overall I had to shake my head and facepalm at random depending on the scene. The dinosaurs did feel pointless honestly, it just gave the sappy father-son stuff along with the parent not ready to let go of their child stuff.

    You said exactly what I was thinking about this film. the original film seemed to be written to get you feeling for the characters, wondering if Diego would betray them and if the child would get back to the family but the sequels seemed to be written with more of a focus on comedy (that will sell well).
    I enjoyed the sequence with Scrat and the teleportation etc. when I thought it was a short like Mike's New Car and all of those but in the context of the film not so much.

    I've only seen the first film and Dawn of the Dinosaurs. The first film was enjoyable and I've watched it more than once so I guess that counts for something. Dawn of the Dinosaurs I saw on a secondary school trip at the cinema and I really don't remember anything about it except that Simon Pegg was in it. I really don't know how they've made it to a fifth movie within 14 years. I would've thought the nostalgia factor was long gone. At least with Toy Story 3 and Monsters University, there weren't 3 films between the first and the most recent one and the stories worked because it was fun for kids and dealt with situations that the older audience can relate to (Andy and his toys letting go of the past and going to university and the monsters going to uni and dealing with those situations).

    I'm close to that demographic. Back when the first film came out, I was 6 years old but this year, I just turned 20 back in February.

    Shouldn't this series have ended after The Meltdown, and the end of the titular ice age? At least Final Fantasy has the excuse of its title being metaphorical.

    • @nitromagilou597
      @nitromagilou597 5 лет назад +6

      I feel like it could've ended fine with the first or second movie, maybe even the third movie to bookend a relatively passable trilogy. But continuing after that is a clear sign of running on fumes, as Continental Drift and Collision Course add nothing original or interesting whatsoever.

    Something that is worth noting is that since Ice age 4 was released, 4 years have passed. That is how many years there were between Ice Age and Ice Age 2. And these movies have come out within decades of each other, so we'll probably get Ice Age 6 in 2019, 7 in 2022, 8 in 2026, 9 in 2029, 10 in 2032, 11 in 2036, 12 in 2039, and it'll go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.....

      As I recall, the mother died, so technically they were bringing it back to the father.

  • @Niobesnuppa

    You know, Ice Age was a movie that didn't really need a sequel in the first place. It was just a nice, simple story about different animals from the ice age helping a human baby back to its parents.
    The second movie was pushing it, but it wasn't the worst thing ever, just mediocre.
    By the third film, the franchise just completely jumped the shark with dinosaurs, dumb sitcom clichés, and the sequels after that are basically just like someone trying to make a pizza with rotten meat. Just throw it away already, it's way past its expiration date! Make something new!
    Also, has anyone else noticed that humans never appear again in the sequels?

  • @tiffanyb94

    I've only seen the first Ice Age movie, but I'm getting so tired of this franchise. But it's a cash cow so we can probably look forward to yet another movie in the future...

  • @redmess22
    @redmess22 8 лет назад +4

    Whats bad about this movie is not just that the plot is nonsensical, but the narrator and several characters go out of their way to point out just how stupid the movie is. That's just really, really cynical, if you don't care anymore and emphasize that you don't in the movie itself through snarky self referential humor.

  • @halfdemonprince
    @halfdemonprince 6 лет назад +4

    Well they have to end it now because there are no more world altering disasters for them to parody anymore. Unless they went the way of Dreamworks and turned it into an animated sitcom on Netflix.

  • @ThePonderer

    Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh. I really wish we could've let this franchise lay with just the first film. I've watched it recently and while it's not the best, it's a really charming film that I hold a lot of nostalgia for. Why is it that 14 bloody years later, Blue Sky has only managed to make one film that's better than their debut (the Peanuts Movie)?

    • @daeodon
