    i always love your content. it usually makes me say why did i ever get rid of that lol. but in reality watching u has seriously made me consider tracking on a 16 track reel to reel again. you can fly it in a daw to edit but no matter what plugins or whatever you use its never gonna be the same. and when your limited per say buy punching it in stead of comping and stuff thiers just an organic quality that no daw session is ever gonna reproduce. thanks for the content and havea great day

      Thank you and I agree 100% I sold off a lot of my analog gear around 2008 and went in the box. I made some really good records that way but I felt like my mixes started to improve when I added a console and started mixing hybrid again. Then I bought the tascam MSR 16 and a little Fostex R8. The R8 is just really fun to use but the Tascam MSR 16 sounds way better than I expected it would. I had been running an MCI JH 16 before 2008 and even though the small tascam machine is not the same, it has been really nice to have tape again.

    The first real console I ever had was a Tascam M2600 and I learned a ton using that desk but I traded it for a Yamaha PM-5000 because it had a better EQ with a true parametric EQ and not just sweepable mids like the Tascam. But if there is one thing I can say about Tascam gear is they do make the absolute cleanest mic preamps I have ever tested. No matter what era it comes from. If its a 1980s console or an audio interface the mic preamps are always the best quality and rival anything from the biggest brands like Apogee, Antelope, or Universal Audio. Even though they made a ton of budget gear it seems to last forever and with a can of compressed air and some 409 you can make it like new again LOL!!!

      I have always heard good things about the M2600s. I used to have an M3500 I ran with a Fostex E-16 and it sounded very good and the mic pre amps were excellent. I have an old American made mixer that is much easier to overdrive the mic pres than any Tascam I've used. The M-35 apparently has good headroom on the buses too. I could not get them to overdrive audibly in any way during this demo and I was absolutely slamming the buses!

      @@joesalyers Thank you so much! I really appreciate your support. I'm not sure what I intended to do when I first started this channel other than help people with their analog gear and put some of the things I've collected to good use. It takes a ton of work to make the type of videos I do but I have a lot of fun with it and having more subscribers definitely helps motivate me to continue making them. Plus I have a lot of love for all this analog equipment. 😎 I also am starting to enjoy building a community of people like us and discussing all of this cool analog gear and hybrid mixing in the comments. To me, it has become a much better place than a lot of forums that discuss audio. Not saying that forums are bad but RUclips has become a more comfortable place for me to be and a lot of that is due to the fantastic community of people I have met here since starting this channel.

    Thank you so much, very interesting videos. I’d love to get one of this too. Just for recording drums mainly

      They sound pretty good for drum mics but they don't have phantom power. I bought some cheap phantom power supplies off Amazon to use with it and they work fine. I've had some console mic preamps that don't like some of my mics like the Audix D6 I use on kick drum but the M-35 handles it just fine. The preamps are also fairly quiet. The reliability of this era of Tascam is also excellent. I haven't done any work to my M-35 at all other than cleaning and it works 100%

    Great sound! Can't hear any unpleasant distortion, it livens up the samples tracks. Those guitars in first song sound sweet too. Love when you EQ and separate them.

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  2 года назад +1

      Thank you! I was really surprised at how much headroom the M-35 has. And the EQ works better than I thought it would too. I am setting it up with an analog 8 track which is what it was originally designed for next. The guitars in the first song were tracked with a Gibson SG Standard through a 1971 Fender twin reverb with a Fulltone full drive II. I wish I still had the Twin Reverb. That was a great amp for any kind of recording and it took pedals so well.

    I think it sounds great. Should work well as a summing mixer & as a bank of mic pres, as you say.

      Thank you! Owls is a very serious piece I wrote one day when I was at the lake and I saw some owls. I once used it in an April Fools video too! I actually ran a lot of kind of goofy songs but this one just seemed to fit. Thanks again! Oh and I like the console too. It sounds pretty good on those owl samples and hoots!

    I need a mono inputs about 6 mono synths, does it use a quarter inch cable TS?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  2 года назад +1

      The line inputs on the M35 are on RCA connections but you can probably use an adapter or use the XLR mic inputs with some DI boxes. It has 8 channels and a stereo effects return which is on 1/4" inputs. That would be 10 mono sources you could potentially connect.

    Can you make a video about how you hook up all cables and stuff? I'm having issues with my M35 and I don't know if it's broken or just connected the wrong way. After recording to tape I get a lot of distortion in the mixing stage even though I mostly keep the VU needle under -7 db...
    I mean it's sounds okay but definitely not as clean as your recording. By the way the tape machine isn't the issue here. Same thing with my interface.
    Cheers and thank you for all these wonderful videos.

      @@TwinCreekAudio I have an apollo x8 and some analog compressors and an EQ. Simply trying to figure out how to properly connect the Model A to the Apollo and integrate the other gear! I also notice that my Model A doesn't have RCA jumpers. Do you think I can still go without them?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  Месяц назад

      @solsearchknowledgecenter5252 those jumpers have to be there to pass the signal. Normally you would connect audio interface outputs to either tape or line inputs on the console. I prefer the tape inputs as they are switchable to the main channel path and also have their own submix section that was used for tape monitoring. Then connect with bus outputs or direct outputs to the inputs on the Apollo. That's the basic idea anyway. My Tascam M-35 videos might be useful too. It's similar. For external processing like EQ or compression, use the inserts(access send and receive) and for reverb, delay or FX you want to add to more than one sound, use the Aux sends. I think one is labeled FX and one Cue but they both do the same thing. When using the Aux sends, you need a return or a spare channel to bring the processed sound back into the console.

      Would you know by chance where I can get replacement RCA Jumpers??

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  Месяц назад

      @miguelsolis4531 it is really difficult to find the originals abd the spacing had to be correct. It's probably easiest to get short RCA cables to use instead. Just get the shortest RCA cables you can find and they will work.

    Hi is the m30 and m35 the same pre amps ?

    • @TwinCreekAudio
      @TwinCreekAudio  Год назад

      The M35 and M30 both have transformer balanced mic preamps and probably use the same opamps. The main difference in these are the features with the M35 having more routing and features plus 2 more mic preamps(the M30 has 6 I believe). I absolutely love the M35 and have never used an M30 personally but I would imagine they sound very similar.
