Can i use the Soundcraft GB2 32 console for a hybrid studio, i have a RME digiface usb and 4 Behringer ADA 8200 on order, is it possible to use the cosole to send and return signals from each chanel to the ADA 8200 and use outboard gear, best regards Patrick from Sweden
Yes, it is definitely possible to use that console. The best way is to send the direct outs to audio interface inputs and audio interface outputs to line inputs. It is best to use separate channels for recording to the interface and others to return the signal from the interface for hybrid mixing but you can get around that by repatching between recording and mixing. The GB was designed for live sound but with 32 channels you can use at least 8 for monitoring channels while tracking up to 24 channels simultaneously. There is a lot of flexibility with a system like that, even when using a console designed for something other than recording. Make sure to check out my video. How to set up for mixing on an analog console and how to record tracks with an analog console. I hope this helps!
I have a Ramsa wr-s4416. Im trying to send interface tracks out into line input then out back into daw on aingle audio tracks. Qhat if i use the direct out? Will it cause trouble
It might cause a feedback loop. You cannot route the direct out of a channel while returning to the same channel espefially if you have monitoring on in the DAW. You need to use separate channels for sending to the interface and returning back from the interface. That's why recording consoles have separate tape channels. Your console has only 4 separate line inputs so you'll have to use different channels for sending to interface and coming back. It's a little more complicated than that as you can still monitor what's being recorded through the console while monitoring something from the DAW on different inputs. In other words, it depends on how you want to play back tracks while recording new ones. I would probably just use the 4 line inputs for playback from the DAW when recording using the console and then repatch the audio interface outputs to line inputs on the channels when you want to mix or sum with the console. You could also use the first 8 channels for recording with the direct outs and 9-16 for mixing. Looks like a good console. I had a Ramsa but mine was earlier. WR-8816 I think. It had 8 tape inputs for an 8 track tape machine. I hope that helps.
@lomatv4144 what I like to do is connect my interface to a mixing console, preferably a recording console(a mixewr that is designed for recording), just like I would connect a tape machine. Then I use the standard facilities on the mixer such as insert and Aux sends to connect my outboard gear. A good rule is inserts for EQ and compression and Aux sends for time based FW like reverb/delay. Inserts are useful for adding processing to a single channel and Aux sends for when you want to use an effect on more than 1 sound/source. Check out my videos on how to set up for mixing on an analog console and the one about tracking on an analog console. Those should give you a good reference and are more visual than a comment can be. 2 about mixing: ruclips.net/video/OlMjnQP58nU/видео.htmlsi=BC51egfhKO-VOTGm ruclips.net/video/RWmxkO2gnOs/видео.htmlsi=JYzQNkBDJJqy_vnP And one about tracking: ruclips.net/video/qEjg7h9iOqE/видео.htmlsi=tHoChaXNf5bgFR59

@@lomatv4144 mixing consoles usually have EQ on every channel. A digital mixer will work too and have all of that built in. It's just not analog but will definitely have EQ and probably compression built in for each channel. Analog mixers will almost always have EQ but only some have compressors.
How is the moth 828? I’m looking to connect to my Clarett for more I/O . Does it need software install or can I use the ADAT? I’m also using Mac OSX Ventura .
@@Prod.Countryjames it needs a software mixer to use and I was never able to get it to work as an extra set of ADAT inputs. It works fine on older Macs but you have to use it as the interface with something else connected to it's ADAT ports for extra channels. These were very good interfaces that were well supported for a very long time, but they are getting a bit old and driver support is less than it was on newer OS. I think the Mark II and beyond should work as an extra set of inputs from what I've read but I have not personally tried it.
@@TwinCreekAudioI guess there’s no need of wasting my time and money if I can’t get it to work the way I want it to. I will probably look to the newer one in the near future. Thanks for your help as always .
@@Prod.Countryjames you're welcome! I do like MOTU interfaces and I think the newer versions with a software mixer will work the way you want. The original 828 doesn't have some of the DSP hardware needed to run Cue Mix etc.
Im trying to get analog line outs from protools to my Midas Sienna 400 console hoping to mix analog, could you please help me figure out how to get analog outs from the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 [3rd Gen] which is 18in /20out ? How to use the Tos Link cable to get analog outs ?
The Toslink would need to go to another interface with analog outs. You should have 10 analog outs on the 18i20 so you'd just connect those to the line inputs of the console and assign the tracks to the outputs in your DAW. I don't know that interface very well but that's the basic idea. You'd need another interface with additional analog outs if you'd like to combine more than 10 analog outputs since there is no way to add additional analog outputs to any interface without linking a second one with some kind of digital connection.
@@TwinCreekAudio could you please let me know which interface should i get to use the Toslink with the analog outs ? By the way, loving your videos, Thank you very much for the info
Do you have an opinion about making submixes in the box and then analog summing the submixes? Is this hybrid summing significantly worse than having a big enough analog mixer to sum everything analog?
That method seems to work fine. I tend to submit sounds that are similar when I work that way. You'll probably see most of the same benefits of total analog summing that way or at least most people won't hear the difference. That's a perfectly good way to work hybrid though.
@@TwinCreekAudio Thank you! I suppose in the worst case, I could also submix through the mixer and “print” the submix to a new DAW track. It just means I couldn’t tweak the submix during the main session without a lot of hassle.
@@hiteho_woozy that would work too but submixing in the box should work fine too. You can even submix each group of instruments types and then sum the groups on the console. Any of that will add some analog saturation to the tracks and combining similar sounds to submixes should still allow more of the original sound to come through with less digital loss.

Moving those faders continuously back and forth does it make any difference at all, considering that crappy music or is it just part of the "show" to look more pro?
Yeah, it's part of the show. It's funny how I don't remember even pushing faders around that much in this video so not sure what you're even talking about. I don't remember what music I used in this video but I'm sorry you don't like it. Music is subjective anyway so what's your point? Just in a bad mood and decided to take it out on some poor RUclipsr? I hope your day gets better.
I find your videos really motivating for us who want to switch to analogue gear. I live in Mexico and finding inexpensive gear around here is rather difficult, so I have to settle for the gear they sell through Amazon. However I saw they are selling the Allen&Heath mixer, which I've seen featured in one of your videos. I just wonder what audio interface do you recommend to pair it up with? Thank you !
I think the best way to get a great interface with the best converters is the RME Digiface. Then you can use it with any converters that have ADAT connections. That means you can mix and match the converters as well. The Behringer ADA8200 is great for the money and if you want a bit more quality, the Ferrofish converters would give you 16 channels of IO. The Digiface supports up to 32 IO total on ADAT connections. Analog consoles of decent quality shouldn't be too hard to find. You might look for a Mackie analog 8 Bus or a Soundcraft used. Some people don't like the Mackie, but I think they sound great and are usually inexpensive and easy to find since they are common. The only new analog consoles will be very expensive but there are some great models being made now that night be available on Amazon though a reseller. Toft, Audient, or SSL. In the case of the Big Six, it has converters and USB interface built in but is quite expensive and lacks some features of a full analog console. If you can find the Zed R16, they are fantastic sounding consoles that should still work with macOS up to Monterey and Windows 10 though I'm not sure the drivers will work beyond that. You also need FireWire to use it or a Nac with thunderbolt and an adapter to FW400. They lack inserts on the subgroups but that's really the only feature the R16 lacks. I hope that helps! Greetings from Texas! I'm in East Texas and I love talking to people from all over the world. Thanks so much for your comment!
@@TwinCreekAudio thank you¡ I’m checking an Alexis studio 32, they say the routing is very easy, some tell wonders of the eq, but some others disagree. Could you give me your opinion about it¿ I appreciate it.
@@miltonmagik I havent used the Studio 32 though I did use their older console, the 1622. It was not great in my opinion but the Studio 32 is a later model and looks much better features and specifications wise.
The only bad thing about using Analog mixer is that you don't automation meaning when you move a fader on your analog mixer it won't do that in your DAW. You need something like the Behringer X-touch.
That is true. I don't have a controller but I will sometimes put the console faders at 0 and do all my automation in the box. That seems to work OK but I'm still stuck using a mouse.
@@brentharmonmusicproduction the way my interfaces work, there isn't any latency. The inputs pass the signal to the outputs when tracking like tape machines used to do. I think the same can be done with RME but it might have latency since it's a software mixer.
That's a difficult question to answer. They are both good in different ways but I'd probably choose the Ghost over the Mackie 8 Bus. For the money, I'd choose the Mackie though. I didn't like the Ghost preamps as much as some people do. They don't compete with the pres on my Soundcraft Sapphyre. The Ghost has superior EQ though.

@@MusicalPaintCanvas thank you so much! I also like MOTO a lot and their 16a with some additional ADAT interfaces would be a good choice as it has AVB should you ever want to go that route.

@@MusicalPaintCanvas Creation Audio Labs in Nashville can service and even mod and upgrade the Ghost. The modules are separate underneath so it's not too difficult to remove them for service. I would definitely clean and all 1/4" connectors with something good like Deoxit Gold. Also, the headphone jack and control room level pots can be a problem with the Ghost. It's usually best to hardwire bypass the headphone jack and use an external headphone amp. My Ghost did not have this problem.
I want to get analog mixer for logic pro and i want to connect my anloge compression and EQ to the mixer how i can do that 😢
@lomatv4144 what I like to do is connect my interface to a mixing console, preferably a recording console(a mixewr that is designed for recording), just like I would connect a tape machine.

@TwinCreekAudio ok thanks for that i want to explain my situation i want to buy mixer like 32 Channel ok and buy for every Chanel a eq . compressor.saturation hardware in any type ok and reverb or delay ok for every Chanel i have her hardware geer and Each channel is dedicated for track from 1 to 32
@TwinCreekAudio or i just get digital mixer
@@lomatv4144 mixing consoles usually have EQ on every channel. A digital mixer will work too and have all of that built in. It's just not analog but will definitely have EQ and probably compression built in for each channel. Analog mixers will almost always have EQ but only some have compressors.
@@TwinCreekAudio yah i understand but analog is good hhh i am an Analog Obsession 😂💔👍
I have no idea how you found all the stuff in your rack at such low prices, but good on you for that
I've owned a lot of it for a long time and sometimes I just wait until I find what I'm looking for at a decent price. My 2 ART TCSs were like that.
What audio interface are you using for your hybrid setup? If you were to get a newer one right now, which would you get? Thanks!
That are a combination of Echo Audiofires and NOTU. I have 2 separate rigs set up. 24 IO on one and 16 on the other.
gotta go back and watch analog gear video.
I have made a lot of videos about analog gear and consoles.
i have a question. i have a the mackie SR32-4 VLZ Pro. im trying to send individual tracks to group outputs panning them L/R. seems to be not working. i think i get about 3-4 tracks going out in mono. i have to be connecting something wrong.@@TwinCreekAudio
Furman amplifier for Ns10m s? or use other too?
The NS10s are running with a Yorkville 300 watt amp. The Tannoys are powered monitors though.
@@TwinCreekAudio Man, thanks a lot for your quick response. Now I have some homework to do about all the gear you mention. ++ I highly appreciate it!
@@TwinCreekAudio than You! Looking forward to more vids!
Warzone ended up taking up all my hard drive space, so I went full analogue mixing down to tape. 😅
Nice! Analog is good and less hassle sometimes.
@@TwinCreekAudioI'm sure though dealing with latency is pretty low though.
@@brentharmonmusicproduction the way my interfaces work, there isn't any latency. The inputs pass the signal to the outputs when tracking like tape machines used to do. I think the same can be done with RME but it might have latency since it's a software mixer.
If you had to choose between a Soundcraft ghost or the macki 8 . Which on iyo is the superior console? Thx
@@TwinCreekAudio I absolutely love your channel!! I find the mackie has more options. Im looking to get interface but I don’t want to pay to much. What would be iyo the most cost effective way to get 32 coming out on my MacBook Pro m1. I’m kind of stuck between ( pre sinus , TASCAM , and Focusrite do you have any advice?? the Mackie is a 32 with a meter bridge, did they make a meter bridge on the older ones, or is it a newer one.
@@MusicalPaintCanvas thank you so much! The channel has taken years of work and I'm really glad people are finding it useful and interesting. as far as interfaces go, I like the RME Digiface and you can add 32 IO with whatever converters you want for each 8 channels. Even the Behringer ADA8200 sounds pretty good for this. I also like MOTO a lot and their 16a with some additional ADAT interfaces would be a good choice as it has AVB should you ever want to go that route.
@@TwinCreekAudio I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I’m a newbie at this stuff , but there something about a console that I’m just attracted to. the guy selling the ghost mentioned to me that 3 channels were oxidized … it doesn’t seem to be something hard to fix. What do you think? Do you have a place on line that can help reservice these console when things go wrong or when they need fixing?
@@MusicalPaintCanvas Creation Audio Labs in Nashville can service and even mod and upgrade the Ghost. The modules are separate underneath so it's not too difficult to remove them for service. I would definitely clean and all 1/4" connectors with something good like Deoxit Gold. Also, the headphone jack and control room level pots can be a problem with the Ghost. It's usually best to hardwire bypass the headphone jack and use an external headphone amp. My Ghost did not have this problem. I don't remember having any problems with it but it's been more than 10 years since I owned it. I have had the Sapphyre for 5 years now with no problems except the power supplies which I had rebuilt.
My tip: try to get a good one that comes with all the cables included.
That's always a good idea. Cabling is expensive if purchased separately.
Don't do subscriptions! If you want software, buy it outright, or walk away.
@@TheOriginalCoda I agree 100% Thank you!
Yup! I realized that I spent almost 1000 dollars on waves plugins subscriptions within the last few years, not to mentiona protools and autotune! Out thousands...so I canceled and bout a waves bundle and gonna get auto tune access.
