  • Craftsman Hand Tools at Lowe’s Where did you come from? Where did all the USA go? It simply priced too high for all the China and Thailand items making up more than 80 percent of the business. This video is a store tour of all the new hand tools and the country of origin on each one with literally 90% or more all being made in China. The rest are made in Taiwan Thailand or England.
    I personally wish that more manufacturing would be brought back to the USA. I really did enjoy the USA quality made tools that were able to be purchased at reasonable prices 10 and 20 years ago. I don’t foresee any changes and as long as the market continues to be driven by consumers and low pricing. Companies will continue the responsibility to shareholders and the business by increase in revenue through reducing cost, cutting labor and increasing prices.
    I will continue to purchase what I feel is quality tools at affordable prices. They don’t even have to be 100% made in the USA, just be honest transparent and don’t try to make a money grab. I will continu to look at tools on Amazon, Estate sales, eBay, Pawn Shops, Online Markets, Craigslist or friends and family.

      Then the extra price MIGHT be worth it but I am going to bet they won’t actually perform any better to justify all of the effort. It might even hasten the trip to failure. The installed base and lower labor costs in China and Taiwan will be dragging this strategy down all the way to the bottom. And there will still be virtually no difference in actual performance. The advent of RUclips and lots of good performance comparison channels will also dog this business plan. It isn’t like the old days all.

The Taiwan tools have tight tolerances. If Craftsman wants me to buy their garbage, it needs to be made in USA with USA materials. If not I'll buy HF made in Taiwan, great quality for pennies on the dollar. We'll see if Craftsman can make tools that are made in USA, not assembled in USA. I won't hold my breath.

    i saw a recent Forbes magazine interview with Stanley CEO and he was bragging about people buying new Craftsman line being sold at Lowes like in no time. By looking at their new products and price point, they cost more than Autozone's Duralast, Napa's Evercraft, Advance Auto/CarQuest's TEQ Correct, Home Depot's Husky or Harbor Freight's Pittsburgh pro line. I just don't understand what he was bragging about! He did mention that they are trying to build a new tool plant in U.S. though. Hopefully, they will be cheaper than Snap-on!

  • @Eggomania86

    Stanley & Black and Decker also own Proto, MAC and MATCO tools. I think they deliberately out sourced Craftsman tools and marketing tools to your DIY mechanic and homeowner making them affordable. I have a set of Lowes craftsman so far not bad. I think people are upset because craftsman is a household name that was traditionally US manufactured. For most home owners and shade tree mechanics these new craftsman tools are not bad. I had worse. If you use these tools for industrial applications or as a full time mechanic you might want to invest in Proto, SK, MAC Matco, and snap on. If you do invest in any of the above prepare to pony up. I do think these outsourced craftsman tools are better quality than Harbor Freight. I've owned Harbor Freight stuff. I also read that Stanley Black and Decker plans to open up a facility in Dallas ft. Worth to start producing tools.

      @@x-man5056 You're right, it won't matter.
      But not for the reason you think, it won't matter because most people didn't care in the first place. Sears would've gone out of business in 2002 if they had.
      It's 2019, and most people don't care where shit is made as long as they get the quality they expect for the price they paid. Which is kind of ironic since a lot of people who claim they do care won't go out and buy SnapOn for precisely the same reason. The quality isn't high enough (even compared to most Taiwanese stuff) to justify the ridiculous uptick in price.

    From a corporate business point of view the ONLY reason for s, b and d to buy Craftsman was the legendary name. The actual business strategy is to make at a low cost in China like everyone else but price higher to recoup on the cost of buying the name. It really is a pure profit play and has nothing to do with made in USA Craftsman. There are so many really quite good tools today made in China just like Craftsman is. Extracting money from the public just for a name suggests they believe there are a lot of people out there who will be fooled by this. You literally will be paying extra money for nothing of real performance value. Just aa name. As a marketing guy I am looking for when this strategy comes unraveled. But there are a lot of people who will get sucked in sadly. Big red Craftsman boxes. Very enticing!

      John Davis...well put. I must agree and the "new" Craftsman isn't like the "old" Craftsman's I bought back in the late 70's and into the 80's. Won't waste my money on them. Sad that the Craftsman brand went down hill like they did. Worthless... Lets pull the plug and put the customers out of the misery of these junk tools. Lets not forget the new lifetime warrantee that requires you to have a receipt on some tools to get a replacement. Are you serious??? Now that's a joke. Too many other choices in tools today that is going to put the stake into Craftsman's heart!

      starastronomer yeh I have a set of craftsman tools that my dad bought back in the sixties. Good tools. A few years back I purchased a set of craftsman combination wrenches with a ratchet box on one end. Total junk. Sears is going under very deservingly. They were one of the first ones to go to China. They could have stayed in the United States with their appliances and tools and been on top of the world. But greed got in the way. For me Harbor freight would have been a better deal. Probably made at the same place.

    What I can pick out in the video, at sears, the pry bars, picks, mirror, aviation snips are USA sourced. As well as the lawn equipment and some tool boxes. SBD screwed up. They could have easily had western forge manufactured their screwdrivers and pliers- like they did for decades. I am disappointed with the offerings from Lowe’s. It’s really a race to the bottom now.

    People who complain about tools not being made in the USA must be very very rich with a lot of disposable cash to spend.. I can fill a shop full of tools made in China or half full or less if they are made in the USA. You have to compare quality and price. Most Americans can not afford to buy tools made by an American worker making $50000 a year. Sorry none of my tools have sentimental value. Ha Ha.. • @andybub45
    @andybub45 3 года назад

    Craftsman is outsourcing and trying to leave the USA. Even though some of their stuff is still made here, it is often low quality, especially the tool boxes.
    Tekton and some other companies are actively trying to move manufacturing to the United States and make much higher quality tools. Ive been very happy with my Taiwanese Tekton tools, im sure the USA made ones are even better.
    Recently, I was in the market for a small single bank tool box. I went to lowes and looked at the craftsman, very poor quality and poor space optimization. Then I went to Harbor Freight, made in China, but way higher quality and lots more room. Needless to say, I went with the HF.
