$500 is just too steep for this considering an iPad Air is $599 and $420 for the M1. The previous $399 price point was a great value for the iPad Mini. Now? Not so much.

I too expected APple putting an M chip inside this thing, maybe an older M2 model, if they still wanted to keep a reasonable distance between the Mini and the Pro.
Apple said we don't want you mini users too expensive for iPad. And it's cuts into iPhone max sells it's a horrible product in their eyes

This looks like a minor update to me, I guess it is still worth getting the mini 6. I think that's the best vfm iPad mini ever.
Supporting the new pencil is pointless if it still feels terrible because of the refresh rate

Solid processor, ram and storage upgrade for the iPad mini at the exact same price. I’ve personally been holding off on buying the 6th gen, so I’ll definitely be getting this one.

I mean considering the new worthwhile features are
1: 8GB in 7 vs 4GB in 6
2: A17 Pro in 7 vs A15 in 6
3: Apple Intelligence
4: double the base and max storage
I do believe that this mini could be a suitable upgrade for anyone that has an older iPad mini thats not the 6. Mainly because of the new storage options and ram which almost certainly includes the ability to download apps that require 8GB in the future.
No OLED. No thanks. I’ll stick with my 6 since I use it almost exclusively for media consumption. The wait continues.

No Promotion, No M chip... will pass. This is a Tim Cook special. Use up leftover parts that we need to use up.....
I have the m1 ipad air and the iphone 15 pro that has the mini chip. I can play the same triple a games on both and often do. I bet the mini will have a higher thermal tolerance and maybe more ram. I know it isnt an m chip but will likely do very well. I womt buy though as the 60hz is too sad for me i find reading the news doable on my 120hz iphone but not as easy on my 60hz m1 ipad air :/
True. I’m sure the chip is good enough but 60Hz is unforgivable in 2024….
M chip would not be possible on a small iPad.

They teased a IPad mini Pro, yet we got a ipad mini 7, I'm still planning to upgrade ( trade in ) my current iPad mini which I was patiently waiting for, but still I know they teased a 7 pro.
As a side note, if the 7 pro ends up being a sneaky attempt to up sell I'd just stick to the 7...
I’m surprised they didn’t try to stick an M2 or at least go with the A18 Pro instead of the A17 Pro just to keep it up to date for longer, it’s already a 1 year old chip from day 1 as realistically this isn’t going to be updated for a couple of years now so putting an A18 Pro would future proofed it better

Don't care for a "pro" mini, I'm actually pissed that now we HAVE to change to the Pencil Pro too.. I'm not using the mini to make art pieces, I just need to write notes !
Bought a MINI6 (256/cellular) about 18 months ago. For me, two problems. 1) keyboard mapping, as in how do you get to the question mark? 2) Needs to be more portrait oriented, as in Camera on the long edge, buttons more accessible. (my use in portrait mode is as a GPS in the car, so maybe 5%) Prolly wait for version 8.

Seriously? Other iPads get M4 and this can’t even get the A18? With some with turn over times as long as this, it should be as up to date as possible when it comes out.
Is jelly scroll fixed? please find out MacRumors? I would like to upgrade my superior iPad mini 5 that doesn't have jelly scroll.

@@d3luxy when scrolling direction is orthogonal to the direction the display refreshes. So if the screen is refreshing left to right and you scroll up or down, then a horizontal line shown on the screen will "bend" up or down slightly during the movement. The name is making an analogy to how if you grabbed something gelatinous and tried to push it along one side the movement at the far side lags behind; this is contrasted with if you do the same with a rigid object.
i chatted with a specialist this morning they are saying the new a17pro chip should fix the jelly scroll issue even tho they are using the same display lol

Yup has been around since the 2018 in iPads, I get staggering some of these changes for a year or two to incentivize buying the pro but it's getting crazy, you can say the same for even Promotion (been around since 2017)

wait for the 11th gen, the A14 only has like 2 years left of major iOS updates, plus with only 4gb of Ram its underpowered.

It's a modest upgrade. Apple is offering $230 trade-in on mini 6, so I'm thinking of getting the 256Gb model for $270.

This is about the fourth iPad Mini update I have viewed. Each is a short take, understandably since there isn’t product in hand yet. But even with short videos, about half the coverage is on AI instead of the Mini. Speaks to the small amount of improvements IMO.
why is the chipset A17 pro and not 18?

@@td4940I’m in the same exact boat as you. When they killed off support for apple pencil 2 on the larger iPads, I just lost all want to upgrade. I’m not super surprised that they did the same with the mini, but it’s still a nightmare on multiple levels. I’m considering getting the USB C apple pencil to future proof it in case they decide to move the magnets again. Just thinking about it makes my wallet cry haha

I‘m watching this on an iPad from 2020 looool. It’s almost Like it’s brand new.

Does anyone know if we can play Resident Evil on this new mini? The app requirements mention that you need an iPad with an M chip but for iPhone, the minimum requirements is the A17 Pro chip.
I’ve just ordered mine (UK) and have been waiting so long for this new model. I have a really old mini which hardly keeps charge now so I am really looking forward to my new one 😊
Ditto! Bought a mini 6 case brand new off eBay for 25.00. Not paying 60.00 when I can get the same thing for less than half price!
Still too expensive. I understand that this is niche market that values the mini for its size. This is the tablet small businesses use for their kiosks. Not powerful enough to be pro, not cheap enough to be value. Very unimpressed.
Does it have LIDAR support?
The biggest concern is battery life.
iOS 18 extended the battery life of my mini a huge amount. Hopefully the new mini sees similar performance

So disappointed apple the latest iPad mini. I believe so many apple tablet fans have a high hope of the latest iPad mini this year when I saw the spec.....Apple let's down to its enthusiasts. Not much improved but better chip (Old chip from past iPhone) & software with AI, different color casing. So much fans expected a better screen with much thinner bezel like the late iPhone 2024, reality it still the same old screen. Not worth it, next one 🤞🏻

Have pre-ordered as I was waiting to replace an iPad 5th gen mini which is starting to appear noticeably slower. The memory upgrade is not a game changer for me as I only use 40 of the 64Gb I have now, with the iCloud holding lots of data that’s all I need for general googling, banking, photos, weather and internet surfing plus RUclips watching. Hoping the faster chip speed is a game changer that’ll give me a few years of good service like the last mini 5th gen which I’ll likely keep as an Apple Home status/controller/display.
Does it get proper support for external display via USB-C ? Is the only thing that bother me on the Mini 6 ! Could be so great to be used in hotels to watch streaming !

Just got new mini 6 cellular 64gb at Amazon for $374, but returning to wait for the Christmas Apple promo: $50 gift card + $50 off from education store. Buying with Apple gift cards I buy over the year when 15%-20% off, making my net cost $100 more than Amazon deal for double RAM, better processor, pencil pro features and AI features. NO BRAINER!
128Gb version too … you missed that, there’s not just a 256 or 512. The 128 gig is the most likely size most people will ever need.
I am ready to upgrade my current iPad mini but this one does not have enough changes to make pull the trigger. I will not buy one for Apple Intelligent which worth while features will not be here until next year.

It seems no one noticed that the A17 Pro in the Mini comes with only 5 GPU cores instead of 6, and Apple has killed off the Apple Pencil 2
I think the way Apple has segregated its iPad line, we need to think about two buckets. 1) what can it do, and 2) what’s the experience like when doing those things.
The Pro iPads, being the top of the line, do everything (AAA games, Final Cut Pro, etc) and the experience is the best it can be (ProMotion, OLED, 4 speakers, etc). It’s the best experience across both buckets.
The Air checks bucket 1 but not bucket 2. It does everything but there are some compromises in the experience (no ProMotion, stereo speakers, no OLED).
The basic iPad has compromises in both buckets: it doesn’t do everything (AAA games, Final Cut Pro, Apple Intelligence, etc), and the experience isn’t great (non-laminated screen, stereo speakers, basic Apple Pencil support).
The Mini hits a good balance of compromises for me. It’s priced lower than the Air, and the only real tradeoff is the chip (a17pro vs M2). But even then, with the A17 Pro chip, the Mini checks off bucket 1, and not bucket 2, just like the Air.
A lot of folks in the comments seem to be wanting a Mini Pro that checks off both buckets, but that’d be a whole new category that honestly probably won’t make Apple a whole lot of money (the general IPad Mini audience don’t care about pro features) so it’s unlikely it’ll ever happen.
this is hillarious. I stuck with my ipad mini for years to hold off on a new one. Now I'm just going to sell it and not have an ipad anymore if this is the case. What a fucking joke. No 120hz. No smaller bezel. Sweet
I am just curious, people see more than 60 fps? Movies were at 23.95 FPS and they were perfectly fine

@@thegamingendermanI had the Air and went for the M1 Pro. The writing/drawing experience is much better. It’s smoother. Once you do it on 120hz, it’s hard to go back. Really wish there was a 9 inch iPad Pro. 😕

Nah. My iPad Mini 6th Gen still works fine for me. I can still use it in my class even for years to come.
Absolutely brilliant, I started thinking I had to upgrade to a standard iPad or one of the bigger flasher ones but now I can just upgrade my mini as I don’t see there’s any need for anything bigger around the house aside from my iMac.

I already have an ipad pro 12.9 (5th generation) my friends are telling me to switch to the new mini but I don’t know, it is true that my ipad is really big but after training i’m paying 100 dollars, is it worth it? what you guys think?? No hate please, I do not know too much about technology haha

It's remains the only iPad that still doesn't have the front camera located for horizontal FaceTime, etc. use. I'll stay with my Mini 6 as I have no reason to upgrade.

I am so bored with my M1 Pro such that I am willing to trade it for the new mini. I am sticking with my MacBook Pro since it appears Apple will not bump up the iPad Pro to run full fledged Mac apps. Might as well have a mini for content consumption and reading books, websites and magazines.
