Anthony, starr is absolutely fantastic in this role all his little face expressions are just brilliant. Makes homelander an absolutely brilliant character. You never know what he's going to do next but when he does those little face expressions. Tell you everything.
I, for whatever reason, just love the super subtle and random parallel between Homelander's mirror scene and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin in the Toby Mcquire Spiderman trilogy. I'm almost positive that was the inspiration for it considering there are a lot of other specific "parodies" if you will, to other super hero/comic adapted film characters and scenes similar to this in the series and I really appreciate the specific way the writers work them in there when I recognize them. The whole scene, the way he speaks in general but especially, the way Homelander's mirror self say's "Say it!!!" is just uncanny and is immediately what that reminded me of when I saw it on the first watch. Antony Starr nailed the Willem Dafoe impression. Such a good actor.
@@RedTail1-1 ok? not enough people praise chance crawfords performance as the deep, feel like every other actor gets a ton of praise meanwhile i never hear people talk about how good chance is in this role. he does such a good job at playing a character who is manipulative, repulsive and power hungry but unlike homelander, he doesnt posses the raw power, he isnt often intimidating, he actually more often than not is a victim to the manipulative, repulsice, power hungry people around him. it almost makes you think the deep could be a good person if only he wasnt surrounded by the worst, but by season 4 most of the supes in the 7 are just terrified and its makes sense that the deep just wants to sell more points and do whatever homelander says...especially after this first scene. i mean, did he ever have to have that talk again?
Its what makes him such a good antagonist in this show, any character good or evil that can invoke respective emotions on the audience (joy when heroes prevail or sadness when they die, discomfort or fear when the villain wins and joy when they lose) is a good character in my book.
