    My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article ruclips.net/user/postUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.

    *My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

Here's a quote...For example, there is evidence for metformin preventing the growth of cancer cells in lung, prostate, colon, and genograph. Since 2005, metformin has been reported to reduce the risk of cancer by up to 23% worldwide.. My naturopath has done a good job educating me on this drug. My mother is type 2 diabetic 68 years old and she was on metformin for 3 years and since the year 2 started experiencing severe constipation along with real bad muscle cramps and pain in the soles of feet to the degree she would wake up in the night with this pain. I did some research only to discover thousands of other people also reported these same issues. I decided to gradually wean her off metformin while paying carefull attention to her diet and reducing carbs considerably. after about a week of abandoning metformin all her issues were resolved and because of the lw carb diet her blood sugar readigs were also within normal range. She is like a new person. Please be carefull with this medication blood sugar can be controlled through diet alone and my personal opinion is this drug is a huge money spinning scam. T2 diabetes can be fully controlled through diet alone.

    • @ErikRichardsonDO
      @ErikRichardsonDO  4 года назад +7

      Not everybody tolerates Metformin as you can attest to. I absolutely agree that if people would make significant diet and lifestyle issues then we could avoid a lot of these medications. That would be ideal and something that I push over and over again. Unfortunately not everybody does or is able to make the necessary changes so we are left with the medication. As far as a "money scam", Metformin is one of the cheapest medications out there. It's generic and has been for along time. Not a lot of money being made off of it. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

      @@ErikRichardsonDO I understand what you say about Metformin being a cheap drug but considering the amount of the population using it and how readily Doctors are prepared to prescribe it with the initial onset of Diabetes without first addressing diet patterns this leads me to believe there may be ore nefarious intentions at play. Perhaps its just the conspiracist in me.

    • @ErikRichardsonDO
      @ErikRichardsonDO  4 года назад +3

      I understand, I think we all have a little conspiracist in us but I can assure you that I get no benefit from prescribing it. I wish more would put the effort into the lifestyle changes. It's one of the more frustrating things that deal with as doctors is trying to help people make changes that will help them. Unfortunately it becomes too easy to not bother with the effort, and write something, since many don't want to hear you "lecture" them about their lifestyles. I applaud you for caring for your mother as you do and encouraging her to make those lifestyle changes as that is the best way. Appreciate your input!

    • @sajidkhanmahmood
      @sajidkhanmahmood 4 года назад +2

      @@ErikRichardsonDO I understand your predicament Sir as a medical professional you must go where the science leads i do not by any means mean to imply you would prescribe the drug for any personal gain but rather the system of big pharma is setup in such a way that there remains little choice for you. I do have one question though. I firmly believe that my mother has been depleting the effectiveness of Vitamin B12 due to prolonged metformin use and also she uses Omeprozole for a previous stomach ulcer issue and i do believe many of her issues result from possible below average levels of B12 but we have spoke to many doctors and never once have they screened for B12 deficiency . I would have thought the first thing a Dr would investigate with a senior patient presenting with lower limb numbness/pins n needles in hands and feet confusion occasional dizzines and loss of appetite would be a B12 issue but not any of our doctors.

    I have been on Metformin for over 13 years and I still get diarrhea, I average at least one case a week. Normally I can feel it coming on. Diarrhea will last about three hours, it will usually take about 4 or 5 tablets of Imodium to alleviate the symptoms. I will usually take three immediately and within an hour I take two more. If I am going on a flight I will take two when I wake up and two more before I board the plane and I have not had one episode since I have been doing this.

      I have been taking metformin for almost "forever". I am 78 now and have never noticed any side effects. It works, it's cheap and my A1C is is now in the normal range for a non-diabetic. I have noticed if you read the list of possible side effects on most any drug you might want to throw it away without taking it. A big part of this is too many lawyers, and drug companies trying to cover themselves for any possible claimed side effect, even if it is extremely rare...

    Was curious to hear about the side effects, specifically the one(s) that I experienced. Will say that I had been on metformin successfully for 13 years. The last two years though I had to go to urgent care or emergency about 7 times because my bowels had stopped working causing me to continuously throw up, fever of 105 etc. Each time I was kept under supervision until the symptoms passed. The last time I was admitted into the hospital under the premise that I might need surgery...until the day before surgery scheduled and my system cleared (I was taken off metformin while in hospital). All the emergency doctors said I didn't do anything wrong..."just happens". My endocrinologist decided to take me off of metformin and the next day my stomach issues resolved. It's been over a year without metformin and never again with IBS. Curious why no one talks about this side effect.
