One of the best, if not THEE best, movies about the Space Race and birth of NASA. This movie had it all: great plot, great performances, even brilliantly clever VFX. It's all tied together by Bill Conti's beautiful score. It's a great great example of how to weave in other musical works into a score without sounding like plagiarism while using the spirit of that work to make a plot point or to create a feeling. Conti does this and still manages to make something wholey original. "Yaeger and the F104" and "Yaeger's Triumph" are my favorites from this score.
Bill Conti will be remembered for ALL his works like John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith, BUT THIS (Right Stuff and Rocky are 1 and 2 for the music people will recognize him for) the Right Stuff was 1 of the BEST Movies and scores we have had in the last 50 years i wish i was able to find a live performance with him Conducting
Twenty-five years ago, i heard this soundtrack and liked so much that was interested in watching the movie. I really like both today. Sorry for any gramma errors, English is not my mother language.
Great music and even better memories. I have the original newspaper when man landed on the moon. I've followed the space program since I was a kid. And still do. That's why I majored in engineering in college.
“The Right Stuff” from 1983 is a movie that tells the story of American space travel, from the beginning of supersonic flight to the end of the Mercury program, which was the beginning of the American conquest of space. The movie never takes itself too serious, is really funny at times and stays pretty timeless. The movie won four Academy Awards, including Best Original Score for composer Bill Conti, who could kick out John Williams’ “Return Of The Jedi”. But what great orchestrations it has! Credits for that go to no one less than Angela Morley, who also accompanied several great works of John Williams. Enjoy!
Great movie, great soundtrack! Can't have one without the other! This movie heighten my awareness of the space program. Before that, I didnt care for the space travel. I had the opportunity to visit the Neil Armstrong Space Museum last year. Part of me had the chance to go back in time that historical times. This is a awesome movie, I never tire this great soundtrack.
for me..one the greatest films ever made and the OST along with it. (and I'm not even American) (nor that you have to be American to appreciate this incredible film)
He borrowed a couple of themes from Gustav Holst's "The Planets" (the movement "Jupiter, The Bringer Of Jollity") for this one. It works well. Gorgeous stuff! As always, thank you!
How is it that you seem to KNOW every one of my favorite movie soundtracks, and are able to create a beautiful suite just for me? 😁 Okay...maybe not just me, but for ALL of us. 🥰 Thank you, Soundtrack Fred! Love this movie and the soundtrack! Keep on amazing me...us....the universe, with your amazingly beautiful soundtrack suites. ☮️💕
nice film! I love the part of Chuck E. Yeager, although there is some "fantasy" about the flight with the F104, so I never flew without permission borrowing the plane. Heroes like Yeager are no longer left today ...
I think this is the best score by Bill Conti, however, some of the most powerful and most beautiful music in the movie was the use of Gustav Holst's "The Planets" (I know this has been commented on) but what about the use of Henry Mancini's great music to "The White Dawn" ???? It is used beautifully for the orbit sequence of John Glenn, tho I know it was not included in this suite or the soundtrack. Phillip Kaufman directed both movies and was wise to use some of Henry Mancini's greatest movie score.
Made my own sound track CD using all the scores in movie order. When Napster was vogue...I found all the music scores and put them in order. Then recorded a CD.... the best! Better than this one.
I know Conti more for his disco-beat approach (Rocky, For Your Eyes Only, his TV show themes, etc) in which he excelled. This is not that. He was clearly more comfortable in the "other" world. As for winning the Oscar, the field was pretty weak that year. Even the best parts of Return of the Jedi were re-hashed from the first two SW films (inevitably). One of the better scores, Arthur Rubinstein's War Games, wasn't even nominated. At least it grew beyond whatever temp-track was used!
mikesmovingimages Ahhhh... That’s a beautiful assessment! While I think he is among the greatest film score composers of all times and this piece is just fine, it simply doesn’t compare to his best works. Maybe he was just being playful here, but I get an impression that this is a rather generic hodgepodge of familiar tunes that doesn’t necessarily add up to a cohesive whole. In particular, 2:20 ~ is uncomfortably reminiscent of Holst’s The Planets/Jupiter, and I got a bit turned off around 13:37 ~ because it is clearly a spoof on Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto/Mvmt 1.
I was born April 9th two months before Apollo 11 land on the moon June 20th 1969 and we're going back to the Moon 2025 and I would like to be the first civilian hospital to go to the everyone who couldn't help me right by writing a a letter to President and congresswoman in California and NASA director and and make your dream come true
Hello Hayley, I know what you mean, surely this can be counted as parody, same as the ending is a direct relative to the first movement of Tschaikowsky's violin concerto! It is so obvious, it must have been made on (humoristic?) purpose. :-) Fred
I've always had the feeling that The Right Stuff was largely temp-tracked and Bill Conti stuck closely to the temp track in terms of style, and later in the film during John Glenn's flight there are several pieces of actual Holst used - Mars, Jupiter and I think even Neptune makes a brief appearance. Also, Mancini's score for The White Dawn is used in this section, and Conti's adds his own piece 'Daybreak in Space' which is also very similar to part of The White Dawn.
RIP Chuck Yeager. Though you deny being one, you truly are a hero.
This song makes you feel good, gave me inspiration to get thru a day

While I love John Williams, Bill Conti doesn't get the praise he deserves.
I agree with you on "Yeager and the F104" and "Yeager's Triumph"
One of the greatest soundtracks ever known to man. Absolutely beautiful. A marvel to listen to endlessly.
Agree, but look for Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto
I so agree
I agree totally. Much underrated
This soundtrack is absolutely timeless. Bill Conti will be remembered for this and Rocky!!!!
Don't forget The Karate Kid
@@dreamlandnightmare North & South as well.

The absolute masterpiece, music and film.
superb score for a superb movie, love this movie, suspence, humor, romance and drama, all in one
This beautiful music itself is the right stuff for this magnificent movie of the eighties. Thanks for the long-awaited upload!
One of the best soundtracks ever. Conti is underrated
Wonderful history and soundtrack too.

Fred! Hello! Angela Morley did the orchestration for my favourite movie of all time 'The Slipper and The Rose'!
one of the best movies with a great soundtrack, thanks
The greatest soundtrack I have ever heard.

And a Happy Anniversary to ALL the people who made Apollo 11 possible, starting with this fine group.
Alan Shepard represented all 7 of them when he walked on the moon in 1971.
Chuck Yeager, the best pilot of USA! He was not one of the elect, but his name will be remembered more than many of the elect!

Hello Kim,
it is a pleasure... to read your mind (obviously). Haha.
Greetings!
Fred
Great - Großartig
One of my favorites. Thanks Fred! (I'm second after Fred. The prize is great music.)
as a pilot, every time I fly I hear this in my head
Im glad in not the only one
That movie makes me proud to be an American !
nice film! I love the part of Chuck E. Yeager, although there is some "fantasy" about the flight with the F104, so I never flew without permission borrowing the plane. Heroes like Yeager are no longer left today ...
He is still alive amazingly so there is still one...:)
He also was involved in the X-1 program for a long time, he didn't just get recruited and fly the next day.
Excelente y vibrante banda sonora
Such a moving soundtrack, and great movie, Yeager is my hero, and the 7 mercury astronauts. Did the monkey leave dew dew in the capsule.
Even in my humble, Cessna 172 I had to activate a switch to power my clock. "The clock is running!"

I still have this on vinyl, marvellous composition
Premio de la Academia para Bill Conti, marcha maravillosa!!!
All of them added to our country. No matter who they flew for or why, they laid it all out on the line, do or die.
No more demons to chase....RIP Chuck Yeager.
Oh, he's chasing them...just at light speed into infinity now.
Oscar winning music.
Those guys were awesome. God bless their souls. Please check out the movie HIDDEN FIGURES.
If you are looking for other Conti scores to do, I've recently been enjoying his work on the Thomas Crown Affair remake quite a lot.
Thanks TepidShark,
thought of that, too as I edited this video! It's put on the to-do list. :-)
Best!
Fred
if ever a film had the right title - especially when the fellas flew the experimental stuff...... untested
Captivating!
Hey Ridley, can I borrow a stick of Beaman's? I'll pay ya back.
Fair enough.

No, I was. Read my reply to Fred (I cannot believe I am being this juvenile!)
@@suecollins3246 I stand corrected.
@@njuham I was being _totally_ silly! Life and the Blessings of Life be upon you!
Can you please do one for Top Gun as well? Thanks!
As great as this music is, I am seriously annoyed by the ads.
Totally ripped off the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto! (just after 4:15)
6:46 Sound Similar from James Bond movie, For Your Eyes Only (San Martin)

4:05 I AM TIRED OF MONKEYS!
In an interview, composer Conti in effect said he ripped off Gustav Holst. Was he being hard on himself?
My name is Paul Castillo I live in Los Angeles ca
Russian Moon !!!!
Parts of the soundtrack sounds like it came straight from NFL Films

Total rip off of Holst's Jupiter at 2:30!
