I have been listening to skyscraper by David lee Roth alot recently and it came out about the same time as these guitars, he plays his green one in the stand up video.
Pixxy that is the same one as I have many years ago. What happened was taken away from me never seen again I was in the doldrums. After that my present was a rg550 and I had the electronics removed (as had v7 pick up and the standard ibanez electronics) and installed the dimarzio paf Pro (earlier Steve vai pick up) and the iscm custom installed in the guitar. I'm very happy with the results of it and after all the rg550 you picked up on the video you can pimp up or at least upgrade the standard version of pick up and electrical equipment from rg550 to jem.
If its got 9 as a firsy digit its probably a 1991 as the volume control was lowered a tad that year plus the Lo Pro superseded the Edge. The finish is original some faded due to exposure to elements. Best guitar ever, true and flashy, great video Bobby. Cheers
I think firstly, "Bobby" must be a millionaire, owns about a thousand guitars, and is secretly hoarding EVERY hard to find AMAZING guitar for HIMSELF : ) Seriously tho, GREAT video : )
Recently picked up a killer deal on an Ibby rgat 62 to flip. Problem is I️ now love it and it’s in the keeper stable. Would love to hear you review it if one ever comes your way.
Suggestions: Have you demoed any of the Ibenez RG series? If not, a must do. Also you want to try a pretty rare 90's guitar, try the Fender Heartfield Talon IV and review that.
Does anyone know where i can get that hand rest for the floating trem? I'm used to Tune-o-Matic bridges so I rest my hand on the bridge, but on a Floyd it messes up the tuning. Were the hand rests an Ibanez exclusive?
They were only made for a few years in 80s however I heard there was a guy who was making new wrist rests. I'd check out Ebay and Reverb. Maybe the guys on Jemsite can help you track some down.
dragonslayer 316 You can't go wrong with Ibanez or Jackson if you're going to play metal and shred. LTD and Schecter have some nice metal guitars as well
dragonslayer 316 many many many good brands and it's all opinion. If you want true heavy metal try ESP or jackson if you want versatility go ibanez or charvel or chapman but honestly most companies have a metal range it's all opinion and what suits you for me I would have a charvel any day but that's me. On a side note I only mentioned five brands there are hundreds upon hundreds of brands out there alot doing very simmaler things to each other....... Go explore
Hey man, I was wondering if you could clue is into what sounds you're using in which amp simulator to get these tones? You seem to dial in some pretty hot 80s lead tones. Amplitube 4 and Guitar Rig 5 are my go-to's but they just don't quite have that perfect sound in the presets. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your awesome vids.
I like this channel so much! But I think it'd be great if Steve played more riffs. IMHO, it'd allow us to hear the guitar "breathing", the tone... The information about the guitars are good too. THX
That Jem must of havd been repainted in that colour. I bought mine back in the 80s and it looks just like day one. Ive seen plenty and none has ever faded or changed colours. Also these Jems 777 have the best necks, I wont buy any of the later Jems.
The color has probably just aged. I’ve seen the pink ones that have kind of oranges over the years. The blue floral JEMs tend to go a bit green. My guitar luthier says it’s due to the clear coat. It oxidizes and the color fades. But if you buff it out the color will improve.
Man, that is one KILLER looking guitar! That board has aged beautifully! Nice playing too! I need to get one of these in my lifetime, when i get the $$$ that is haha! Also, the old IBZ/USA pickups are pretty damn good. I had a '89 540S that had some IBZ/USA pickups in it (stock pickups) and it sounded great. Wish they started using those pickups again tbh.
That's sexy I almost bought that but I ended going with a 1989 rg760 black with Sharktooth inlay no pickguard. After, seeing this I now kick myself for not getting the Jem77 desert yellow. The rg760 I bought was $650 and the Jem77 was few hundred more still under $900 used back in 1994. This built in Pennsylvania Ibanez custom shop
Watching the video again....yeh , the dsy seems to have seen the darkness of night !! That has definitely aged and been played. Your RG550 is the actual color the jem used to be.
Does the jem dsy still have the original paf pros ?....I used to compare the 550 to the jem when they came out. Loved the jem !! Not so much the price.
Ibanez guitars are nice. I've owned a jem and a rg3550mz and they are both nice guitars. My only dislike is the neck is a little wide on the modern ones and can be a little uncomfortable at times.
Cheapguitarguy i tryee only one ibanez and i did not liked so much . it was the paul gilbert one ... maybe it was not set up so well . i felt the action pretty high and the neck not so confortable ... but i think it was a korean made . about the jem i like these guitars only looking at even if i prefer other brands from the 80s like kramers and charvels :)
Ron Padgett Yeah, that's why I said natural. It just reminds me the colour white walls go when a smoker lived there for years. You move a painting and see the true colour. I know maple just does that over time.
Wataboutya that’s what my guitar luthier says. If you buff it the color will come back. He had a red Telly that went a bit pink, buffed it and the color came back.
That yellow is def not like when it first came out it was brighter it might have been repainted man either that or its stained from something that dulled it out over age mabye idm def not as bright as it was when that guitar was first made great video man as always I think whoever owned that guitar first was a heavy smoker even the neck is a little stained
It’s the clear coat. They can age. I think it’s from sunlight. I’ve got a DSY from ‘88 and it looks exactly the same as does my ‘87 RFR because I’ve kept them out of the sun. Supposedly if you have them buffed out the color will c9me back.
I have yet to ever see an original Jem in person. All I ever see is the jr models and they are crap. I would love to actually play one and see what the hype is all about.
What's with all the JEM??? I never warmed up to Ibanez, except for the "Artist Series." Nice demo though (as always). Guess I am too staid in the conservative stuff. Different strokes...right? [ Except after 60, "stroke" has a different significance compared to when I was younger (twitch, twitch).]
That does not look like the correct color, it should be way lighter, thats more of a mustard yellow. These run from 88-91 with the dissappearing pyramid inlays.
Why do people always mention the wood the guitar is made from? "It's light, basswood". It doesn't make a difference what the body or neck is made from in an electric guitar lol. Could be made out of Chalk board or Steel and it wouldn't make even 0.1% differenc eto the sound. can't believe people still don't understand this and they believe all the bullshit marketing hype about "ToneWood" lol. Even though the only reason guitar manufacturers use Basswood, Mahogany and Maple or rosewood, ISN'T Because it's a "ToneWood" and they want you to have the best sound lol. it's because they have nicer patterns for the most part, they're HUGELY abundant in the USA so VERy cheap on shipping, and most importantly, they're hard enough to last a very long time, whilst not being So hard that they cause alot of wear and tear on the tools they use to cut the guitar shapes out of the blocks they get in. Thats the only reason they use them, honestly. Your guitar being Rosewood fingerboard or Ebony or Your body being flame maple capped on a mahogany body doesn't make a fucking LICK of difference, why? Because it's wood, and the guitar works on metal strings vibrating and interrupting an electromagnetic field around the pickups. The wood is non cunductive, so simple science says it has ZERO effect on that. As it can't. yet 99% of guitar players are convinced the more expensive the wood in a guitar is, the better it sounds. So what, god must have been a guitar player right? Don't you think it's a bit fishy, that the rarer and more expensive a piece of wood is, how somehow it magically sounds better? hmmmm... something ain't right there lol
That’s as cool as it gets. That color is blinding until it ages, then it’s just right. Now it looks like their poisoned pumpkin finish.
the pickups were dimazio paf pro's which sound better and better with age.
Not evos?
@@frederickkrug5420 on the reissue`s evos original paf pro
Thanks for clearing that up!
Man, that guitar sounds soooooooo nice. Loved the cleans
i click SO many of these videos just to hear the glam metal licks you play at the beginning!
Yessss
That's EXACTLY like my '91 JEM in 777 DY! Fantastic guitar!
Just discovered your channel. I have an 1989 ibanez Jem 777DY. I'm from West Springfield Massachusetts
I have been listening to skyscraper by David lee Roth alot recently and it came out about the same time as these guitars, he plays his green one in the stand up video.
eat em n smile, and skyscraper are 2 of my fave albums , totally killer
Guitar as old as me! Love retro late 80's ibanez guitars.
This video should have been called "Conversation with an unmiked guy off camera"
or "dont sit in the basement to long" you will get scitzofrenia :D
We can forgive this, since he's new to making videos - oh wait, never mind....
tobsk84 Your comment wins
So make your own video and shut the fuck up while you're doing it
beautiful! wish I still had my shocking pink one. still have my 89 floral so its not too bad
The pickups were DiMarzio PAF Pros. The middle pup was an HS-2.
There it is! Hhhhhh. Brings back great memories......out of all the guitars I've owned, I put the most miles on one of those......
I still have my Floral Jem77 that i bought in 1988. I waited six months for it that year.
So nostalgically fun!! ;-) Love those videos!!!
Have a nice summer, Steve!!
the most beautiful JEM ever seen!!
Pixxy that is the same one as I have many years ago. What happened was taken away from me never seen again I was in the doldrums. Love the Vids Steve from Boston....I'm from RI btw.....FYI that's a 777. The JEM777DY was made from 87-96
I think firstly, "Bobby" must be a millionaire, owns about a thousand guitars, and is secretly hoarding EVERY hard to find AMAZING guitar for HIMSELF : ) Seriously tho, GREAT video : )
Nice sound!!! I like it, i feel back to the future \m/
Recently picked up a killer deal on an Ibby rgat 62 to flip. Problem is I️ now love it and it’s in the keeper stable. Would love to hear you review it if one ever comes your way.
Loving the walkthroughs... have you made one for the VBK777 1989 Jem?
Killer tones from that intro. Would love to hear the new/old to compare the pups.
Wish Bobbi would get on camera and both of y'all would amp in
can you believe those pickups are supposed to be the same color as the knob on the pickup selector!
Suggestions: Have you demoed any of the Ibenez RG series? If not, a must do. Also you want to try a pretty rare 90's guitar, try the Fender Heartfield Talon IV and review that.

Great guitar !
One good thing about the yellow on that Jem is you can spot your guitar from a mile away.
What is the camera you are using ? It looks amazing
Jevta624
there's a video on the camera I think it's a gh4 or 5 or a propper handicam
Do you have any jem jr videos?
I have a question about guitars I messaged u before but no answer what Brad should I go with for the best metal guitar?
dragonslayer 316 You can't go wrong with Ibanez or Jackson if you're going to play metal and shred. LTD and Schecter have some nice metal guitars as well

I basically want a all around metal guitar with good tone
Take your pick
lol I do like the Ltd mh 350 for and the shecter demon 6
Hey man, I was wondering if you could clue is into what sounds you're using in which amp simulator to get these tones? You seem to dial in some pretty hot 80s lead tones. Could you do a video on the 2017
One of these costs a car in Brazil
777 was also the yellow floral pattern, another rare Jem
That Jem must of havd been repainted in that colour. I bought mine back in the 80s and it looks just like day one. Ive seen plenty and none has ever faded or changed colours. Also these Jems 777 have the best necks, I wont buy any of the later Jems.

The JEMs used PAF pro’s not the IBZ’s that came on the 550’s. The IBZ’s are basically super distortion 2’s.
Bobby must make a shitload of money to buy all these badass guitars.
But the real question is ....if you use the handle is the guitar balanced?
yeah it feels like you are walking around with a briefcase lol.
I've had a desert sun yellow ibanez and it was brighter than that
great show, I am IBENEZ crazy, am starting to search out the vintage models...thanx
Not so much the price.
you becoming an ibanez guitar fan ;) i am missing your old nice kramers ;)
He IS an Ibanez fan. He has more Ibanez than Kramers.
Ibanez guitars are nice. I've owned a jem and a rg3550mz and they are both nice guitars. My only dislike is the neck is a little wide on the modern ones and can be a little uncomfortable at times.

He has always played Ibanez guitars, and has always said that Ibanez and Fender are his favorite guitars, I've been watching him since he started :)
Ron Padgett i am with him if he says he likes fenders ... i got twos stratos and they play so nice ...
Very nice Mr Mclixxx 🤘🏻
How many guitars does Bobby have ? :D
Where's the pink one?
good morning from Duluth Mn. 🤘
Just curious Steve, does Bobby have a channel?? Would love to see him rock out all those amazing guitars he brings you to review!!
cool axe man
there you go with one of my old photos again lol Recall me mentioning there's a photo of the #117 with an old Rootbeer? that'll be it :)
super guitar
777 DSY the 77 had the vine inlay.
Andy Eagle the white 7v was the first to have the vine inlay 😉
No the jam 77FP was first, also the first variant.
Andy Eagle oh yeh ! I keep forgetting that one.
Kool🎸👍🏿
What does this guy do with all these guitars? Is he some sort of collector, professional gigging musician?
The pickups are PAF Pros
Bobby collecting Jems? 🙂
This dude is such a kickass player, he could even make a guitar tuner sound good..
YEAH !!!!
YO WHAT'S UP DUDE !!
Looks like it's lived with a smoker over the years due to the natural discolouration.
Nah, I have old guitars that have discolored exactly the same way, and I have never smoked in my life.
Ron Padgett Yeah, that's why I said natural. It just reminds me the colour white walls go when a smoker lived there for years. You move a painting and see the true colour. I know maple just does that over time.
ScottishCunt my thoughts exactly
ScottishCunt I think it’s the clear coat that changes color over time as Opposed to the actual paint color.
Wataboutya that’s what my guitar luthier says. If you buff it the color will come back. He had a red Telly that went a bit pink, buffed it and the color came back.

looove it!!
Yellow is awesome on a guitar. Either you like it or you don't though.
The guitar you're holding was repainted, the one you shown was the right color.
Hi Steve, it is really hard to hear your buddy talking. And he 's got so much historic infos. Can you please upgrade:)
check out the new axe :) its not mine :(
Starts with a 9 then it's a 1990 ❤️
What's Up Dudes!! 🤘🏻
cool
Good God do those pickups sound great, I put Dimarzio ' in all my sticks that didn't come with them....
Pls include ur guests in the video
Right...
not too crazy about the color, but sounds great. i always associate ibanez with the law suit era. enjoy your videos!
nice
I have yet to ever see an original Jem in person. All I ever see is the jr models and they are crap. I would love to actually play one and see what the hype is all about.
Got mine in 88 paid 2500 I think
I can see you're next accasition being and ibanez bro lol
acquisition lol
I don't need such formal-ness from pixxy, talk to people off camera all day long who cares.
I love the color on this guitar, it's aging very nicely
No strap locks ?
brand
What's up! The roof
The clear coat has yellowed (!) so not fluoresent anymore.
more squeals than zakk...overkill!!
777 DY mate! Not 77 :-)
Need to tell my Girlfriend so she can let me buy more guitars xD
That does not look like the correct color, it should be way lighter, thats more of a mustard yellow. These run from 88-91 with the dissappearing pyramid inlays.
because the clear coat has yellowed

Maybe just have Bobby on and blur his face?
omg i die
Pay no attention to the man behind the screen.
Looks like an overweight Sal DiFusco ;)
This guy sounds like a lazier Nuno Bettencourt.
Wow, that is such an ugly guitar.
