elcidS15 I agree it's good but why is it everyone's favorite now my biggest problem is that you are beyond restricted in what is useful in terms of strategies and weapons have fun shooting those brutes from range with the DMR instead of being able to get in close with the Assault rifle.
You said this halo was the hardest halo playthrough from the bungie titles. Did you forget halo 2 legendary? The sniper jackels alone make the game more difficult
Gaming Pastime the halo reach ai are more aggressive than typical halo ai (except the flood). The main problem with halo 2 is that the enemies damage is ramped up insanely high and reaction times are so quick that it can take less than a second to be noticed and shot by a jackel. I do have to agree that Halo reach's campaign was pretty difficult though.
I watch your reviews on my walks and often go back to rewatch old ones. Just wanted to say thank you for your specific brand of in depth and personal reviews. You’re incredible! “The Legendary difficultly does not fuck around.”
A lot of the best games from that time really do hold up, particularly with a simple framerate and resolution boost. Love the atmospheric effects in Reach. Killzone 2 is the same way. Big budget games really haven't evolved as much as they should have where it matters in the last 10 years aside from a few exceptions. It's kind of sad.
I only played Reach for the first time about a month ago. Back in the day I played Halo and Halo 2 on PC, and was then not bothered to play the rest of the series when it became an Xbox exclusive. I recently bought an Xbox One X with the Master Chief Collection, Halo 5, and a second hand copy of Reach. It was a little jarring going back to 30FPS/720p for Reach after playing all the other games @ 60FPS/1080p, but it was still an awesome experience with a good story and great atmosphere. I'm utterly disappointed that Reach never got the same treatment as the rest of the series. If they upped Reach to 60FPS/1080p, then it would shoot up the ladder to possibly be my favourite Halo game (yeah, I'm sorry to say that game fluidity impacts my overall enjoyment of a game pretty severely). They went to the effort of placing ODST in the Master Chief Collection with enhancements, Reach deserves to be in there as well. As always, great review!
Played Reach at 4K120 fps. Too bad the PC version (and X1X from what I understand) has depth of field and ambient occlusion tied to resolution, so the effects disappear completely if you play the game at high resolutions.
Halo Reach was the only Halo game I truly played. I played a bit of the other Halos in split screen when I was younger, and a lot of Halo 3 custom games with friends, but Halo Reach is the only Halo I finished the campaign of and played hours of online multiplayer in. I loved Halo Reach. Great review as always, invoked so much nostalgia.
If it came to PC then that is what mods could've fixed for the entire series. Look at Halo 1 on PC. Because of custom edition there are so many single-player map-packs, mods and even hours long FULL campaigns to last you an entire year. But because publishers and devs want to keep you hooked on buying the new entry, they don't want to give you that freedom. Even Forge can barely be considered a map tool since you just use the given assets to make something up. While mods for Halo 1 bring in newly made content and new maps made from the ground up with new layouts, textures and assets.
I'm really excited to finally play this on PC. I've never played any of the Halo games except for Halo3. I gotta say Halo Reach got a really good soundtrack.
Out of all Halo games i've played so far it's my favourite, but i wish there were no missions when you are without other spartans. Legendary is not that hard to be honest. Right now i play Perfect Dark Zero on secret agent (it seems like it's heroic difficulty) and it's WAAAY harder. It almost feels like NES or SNES era game in terms of difficulty.
Fyi this game actually retconned the book. The Fall of Reach is mostly focused in Chief's training, and the last 50 pages are about the fall of Reach, which happens completely differently than the Reqch game.
FriendlySith halo canon actually made a video talking about how the book and the game take place. He fixed some of the recon issues and shows how they both take place.
@@th3lonef0x4 No he didn't. It was a solid retcon. None of those cruisers can take off from the surface, even with those piddly little rocket boosters. The last 50 pages of Fall of Reach and the pickup with First Strike, is a far better story.
I've just played this for the first time , I played halo4 a god few year ago , I find it difficult to understand how this came before 4 ?? This is phenomenal for a x360 game , probably my favourite Halo , it's the best FPS on 360 by a mile
i cannot agree with the fact that this is the most challenging mainline halo game... combat evolved is honestly heaps above reach as it is legitimately very difficult whereas reach just requires a lot of trial and error. this is of course speaking in terms of solo legendary. still a fantastic game tho.
on that i can agree, they act more aggressively for sure. i just found combat evolved to have a larger number of areas where simply playing carefully wasn't enough and you really needed to think about your approach as most scenarios had all of the odds stacked against you whereas in reach it felt like there was always that "advantage" you can get over the enemies once you found it in the level - be it emplaced weapons or specific weapons tucked away somewhere . i recently played them back-to-back and that was my overall impression with it as combat evolved almost made me quit the game on legendary. edit: also the flood i guess could be a factor

I had a lot more fun with reach although saying reach is better than CE could spark a lot of arguments but I am strictly talking about the core gameplay loop and not so much the story and atmosphere.

I'm nostalgic to replay this game after playing infinite, I want to see if this one still holds up as my favorite campaign. Back in the day I liked it because it was the one that felt the most grounded. It was an intense War story versus the other one which were more science fiction adventures. I also never enjoyed fighting the flood so this one is awesome to just have some great battles against the covenant who I find far more interesting to fight. I felt like this game also made the covenant scary. You didn't have grunts making stupid jokes all the time, or other species saying weird stuff to you in English. They all looked scarier and them jabbering their alien languages to each other was unnerving. This wasn't my favorite multiplayer, I think three is probably better designed, and despite everybody not liking it I actually enjoyed four the most but it was probably just because I was good at it But that didn't mean I didn't like this multiplayer, I certainly played a lot of it and really enjoyed the maps especially for big team Battle. But what always kept me coming back was firefight. How infinitely customizable it was was just so cool Plus I miss all the colorful blood splatters LOL. Infinite seems to have toned that down, I guess to keep the teen rating Anyway I reinstalled my original Xbox 360 version onto my Xbox One X and I can't wait to give it a try Way back I tried playing it in the master chief collection, but the audio mixing is so terrible that it completely takes me out of the game even if it has a better frame rate
