  • RIO’s Tarpon Clear Tip Floater features ten feet of gin-clear floating line, eliminating the need for a long, cumbersome leader, and allows the angler to cast flies closer to the target without spooking the fish.

Year 2 with the clear tip...here is another issue with that line..too stiff and won't come out of the water clean. It does not load either the Maverick or the r8..you guys definitely did not field test this past a casting pond..several captains agree.

I am in 100% in agreement with @flyrodder68 on this line. Seriously disappointing coming from a top fly line manufacturer. It’s more than troubling. I found it borderline useless for its intent. Don’t know if what I had was a batch issue. But I’m guessing the med stiff core used in it is severely flawed. In comparison to a major competitor line on a Sage Mav it was night and day. Anyone who heads to a remote destination with just this line is in big trouble. Very surprised how this line made it to production.

Heres the problem i have with the tarpon clear tip...1. a 40 foot head...on my r8 11 wt ,unless the entire head is outside the rod it will not load ..the grainage is distributed along way too long of a distance..this means shots need to be 40+ feet ..unrealistic because 90% of all shots are 40 feet or less with a good captain at $1000 per day...the second issue I have with the Outbound short...good in theory but grainage is so dense in 30 feet that unless your cast opens up 6 feet above the water on a perfectly still day, it makes far from a delicate presentation...we need a line that's middle ground

Rio also has a tarpon quick shooter line which might work better for your use case. It has a 30 ft head but the weight is distributed further back so it should be more delicate than the outbound short.

@@cs1089 I actually have had it with Rio lines on my tarpon rods...ive converted to Sci angler...0 issues..no outbound short no tarpon taper no lines so stiff I could stand them up vertically in coils on the boat....with Sci Angler actual research and development went into their lines for tarpon...now i love Rio for trout, bones, steelead, permit, stripers etc. but their tarpon line is junk..many captains agree and I know some shops that have said it too.

@@Flyrodder68 I will have to try the SA line. I agree the tarpon clear tip line is very stiff. I much prefer the Rio flats pro line.
