I know this is a tough subject as everyone’s situation is different. Like many I hate paying over sticker. That said I found myself in a situation where to get a car (SR) at MSRP would be an 18 month wait or longer. This is in fall of 2022. My local dealer bought my C7 for what I had paid for it 5 years earlier. Even though it had some issues. I was looking at used C7 z06s which were way over priced at the time. Long story short I ended up getting my specked C8 for 5k over and I got the car in 4 months. If I would have waited for MSRP, It would have bumped me to a 2024 and two price increases later. So 5k over worked for me and I have been able to enjoy the car for a whole year already. Life is short and as I found out with my father who passed unexpectedly in the spring of 2022, every day is a gift.👍😎

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  8 месяцев назад +3

100% accurate. Every day IS a gift and you aren't guranteed tomorrow. If you want/NEED to enjoy this car before the end then pay over. I'm not saying you SHOULD pay over, but everyone's situation is different.

I walked into my local small town dealership and asked to be put on the list. Three weeks later they called me saying I had an allocation and my 3LT, Z51, fully loaded Stingray was then on order at 3000 status. I paid $5000 over MSRP, but I considered the alternatives. If I would’ve gone anywhere else it would’ve taken approximately 18-24 months to put my car on order. I figured by the time that would’ve rolled around, the MSRP ($97,000) from GM would have gone up more than $5000 for the same vehicle and the same options. I ordered my car September 2022 and picked it up at the museum in January 2023. When the new prices came out for the 2024, my $5000 over MSRP came out about the same. I’ve had the pleasure of being able to drive that car for over a year now. Whereas if I didn’t pay over MSRP, I would probably still be on some list somewhere in a different part of the country.

Great video. I just took delivery of my 2024 Z06 I did pay $12K over (can't believe I just typed that) but I made $19,800 on the sale of my 2020 C8 over 18 months ago. I'm 73 and was on a list for over 2 years since I wasn't getting any younger I paid the price for a car that had every option I wanted including ceramic brakes. With the profit from the 2020 I felt financially justified to pay up money while I'm still young enough to enjoy my 10th Corvette. Also thanks Justin for all the mod videos on the Z06.

Great Vlog….Sad sad state on this issue… I was recently at my local Chevy dealership helping my daughter purchase a new SUV and they had a new C8 Z06 with the Z07 package on the floor… $150,000 + with a $30,000 ADM…I spoke to the owner and voiced my displeasure about the ADM but understood the market and how I felt different about a one time customer coming from out of state to purchase this, versus me who has been buying here for 40 years. He instantly said its mine for MSRP if I wanted it 🤣 We both laughed at not wanting another full time job keeping a Black Z06 looking sharp while driving it. I did make sure he knew I was interested in an ERay if and when they get an allocation. I’m sure ADM’s will be the big thing with them well before we have to worry about the ZR1… Long story short, if you have a relationship with your local dealership, reach out as you never know what they can or will do !!!

But I want a C8 Z06. So I went to my dealership in PHX and they wanted $250K for the car. That’s ridiculous and total BS. So hopefully they drop off the premium in a few more years.

Nothing was available to order except the local dealer who was upfront about 10K over. I did it and had the car delivered in three months. One year and 10,000 miles later, it was the best “bad” financial decision I ever made. 😂 That being said, MSRP or under is the market on Stingrays a year later. Great topic to discuss Justin!

So I stumbled on to my car at my local Chevy dealership that was a purchase back out. The salesman said it’s available, they had 6 bidders, I had cash, I got the car but it cost me 20k over. So now after taxes etc I’ve got a 130 k Stingray HTC Z51 . Definitely underwater, but hey I got the car. It’s paid for and it’s only money. lol

We found the exact vehicle I had built on the Chevrolet website after wanting one for 3 years in a local dealership in 08/23. They advertised it for MSRP but when we started going over the paperwork they had tacked on $20k ADM. we walked out, two days later they called and asked if we were still interested for MSRP. Our 2023 3LT HTC non Z51 with performance exhaust, front lift, magnetic ride, carbon flash painted wheels, low spoiler, top, nacelles, and several other trim pieces is a perfect contrast to the Arctic White paint. The 2 tone interior, red and black, completes the car. It had 5 miles on it when we picked it up, we had 11:53 park it for the winter 2 1/2 months later due to emergency hip surgery not due to the vehicle height or lack thereof. I am 75 yo and this is the best vehicle I have ever driven in my 60+ years of driving.

This is the only car I ever paid over sticker. I bought many cars from other states because most of the dealers in NJ are not very honest. The best dealers for Corvettes in NJ are Conti’s and it was Kerbecks. I don’t know about Ciocca.

I found an allocation for a Z06 from this past round. We agreed on $10K over. Like you, I don't necessary like the idea of paying over. But if I was going to pay over, it had to be an allocation. No way was I spending this kind of money and especially over MSRP for an in stock unit that has compromises from my ideal spec.
Ultimately my logic came down to while I can wait a couple years for the car, the MSRP would be that $10K higher or close to it anyway. The 2024 price increases really hammered that down. Yes absolutely on principle I am with you I wouldn't pay over MSRP. Reality is while that $10K over is going into the dealers pockets, in practical terms for me as long as it turns out the way I think it will be, it didn't cost me anything more than time lost to enjoy the car. $10K was my absolute limit though. Was not going to pay anything higher than that.

I agree with this video mostly. I would add one more consideration: the MSRP is going up every year. In the end, I decided $8k was worth not waiting another 1.5-2 years considering that with the higher MSRP, the difference would be small. I’m 56, for the record. I had also made more than the MSRP increases and $8k premium over the last 1.5 years with the money invested to buy this car. Just my perspective. Each situation is unique.

If you can afford it and want it now, you decide how important it is to have it now. If you are on a list and a couple more years is OK...wait. I'm talking Z06. Stingray, no way.

@@HorsePowerObsessed Like you said if you are 75 and you just have to have it and have the cash maybe. But, as much as we blame Chevrolet, and they deserve it, every person that paid over is the bigger problem. If no one would pay over Chevrolet would have no choice. The Z06 came out much higher than it should have (and everyone predicted) only because people wouldn't hold the line on not paying over on the C8. Chevrolet saw what people would pay for a C8 and thought hmmmm if they will pay this for a C8 we can certainly get a lot more for the Z06. I pity the people that paid way over on the C8 now (I'm not referring to cash buyers) because they are stuck in a terribly upside down car now.

My personal opinion is that Chevy corporate should do what they said they would do and cut the allocations and or deliveries to any dealer that would gouge buyers. It's pathetic that dealers would use this car as a way to scam the buyer. I found a dealer in IL. ( Leach Wilson) that is willing to sell the car at MSRP. Aaron and the sales group there is just extremely helpful.
The problem they're having is getting the allocation? So as usual you have the dealers that are gouging the buyer getting the allocations, and the dealers that are looking out for the buyer getting snubbed.
Chevy stand by your word get the cars out to dealers that will work with the buyers. I understand that it is all about sales. The question is can't all the dealers that have buyers waiting get an allocation? I'm sure the sales of the car will be as strong and the people that have been waiting will be happy with Chevy. WOW what a great sales and corporate boost. The little guy who WANTS the car getting it.. Instead of the greedy self serving dealers getting the cars to the people that have the time and extra thousands to spend.
Trust me I'm looking for a fully loaded Z07. I'm not looking for a baseline car, as I'm 65 and want to enjoy something I've waited my whole life for.
C'MON CHEVY GET THE CAR OUT TO ALL THE DEALERS NOT JUST THE SELECT FEW EAST COAST AND OR GOUGING DEALERS. Get some allocations out to the smaller and mid range dealers as well.

For those Stearlership that charge over, never buy anything else from them again and tell your friends to do the same. They make enough at MSRP. It will come around.

I went to my dealer and placed a deposit on a Z06 and they said it was for MSRP. Cutting to the chase the car arrived and not once was more money for the car mentioned. I closed on the car and drove it home. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. OH! I'm 76 years old and would never pay over MSRP. Have patients and the car will level off. ruclips.net/video/mW2M-4R6VVk/видео.html

No. No offense, but this car (Z06) got smoked by a crappy McLaren Artura. Not a single American car can compete with McLaren.

C8 Z06 can definitely compete with McLaren. Look at the laptimes for Nevers Mgany Cours with C8 Z06 0.3s slower than McLaren Senna. And on the Motortrend Figure-8 with C8 Z06 in 2nd place in between the Senna and 765LT.

I am 68 and I had the same thought process as you're explaining. After months and months trying to find A ZO 6, my dealer that I deal with had one and wanted 30 over. I said, "Well, let me think about it Two weeks later, he called me and said, will you still take the offer you gave me? Because the guy that was making the price 30 over backed out. So I ended up paying 10 over But I got a 3LT loaded to the gills. So I think I'm lucky. It was 152,000. taxes title all that crap with the extra 10 over ..Plus paying cash there are no interest payments. to make the price even more...👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍✌✌
