Wellerman不是Weller Bros雇的員工，是旗下的船。
那個時代很多OOman指的都不是人而是船，例如East Indiaman指的是"東印度公司所使用的商船"。
後來Wellerman成了捕鯨"補給船"(不是捕鯨船本體)的代名詞，所以才有這首歌。

weller兄弟買了艘三桅帆Lucy Ann用來販售補給品給捕鯨船，久而久之他們的員工就被捕鯨水手稱為wellermen，船跟船主都有自己的wiki

當時捕鯨說起來
也真的是各種不確定因素
捕鯨船本身要有一定速度和機動
所以物資數量有重量限制
出去尋鯨兩個星期
然後用魚叉跟牠耗了四十多天
期間你要配合鯨魚換氣的上下潛
把魚叉絞盤保持繃緊但不斷線
被拖著到處跑並用船隻浮力消耗鯨魚體力
被拖離航道的捕鯨船基本上遇不到其他人
只有威勒的小蜜蜂會跟著來賺物資費
一個失誤輕則一二名船員
重則整船沒了
途中繩索繃斷努力直接打水漂
抓上來的報酬能夠船員半年不工作
難怪說汪洋就是一個大賭場

其實這首《The Wellerman》不是真正的船夫號子(shanty)，船夫號子是指那些被創造的目的是要配合船夫在船上的特定工作的歌
很多關於海洋或飲酒的民謠(folk song)都會因為唱到海或船就被誤認為是船夫號子
