This is the first time I get to see a slow closeup of Grindavik and it's obvious that the town isn't safe at all. I see holes, cracks and land subsidence everywhere. I've been watching this unfold since December and the one thing that I've been struck by is the overwhelming convergence of stories that have emerged from this event. From the emotional roller coaster that the residents have been through to the unbelievable resilience, determination and commendable heroic efforts of the workers who have done everything humanely possible to save the town, and doing it through every eruption non-stop. There is such a huge story continuing to unfold in Grindavik. I hope someone can synthesize it because this story needs to be told.
Good comment.
Amazing footage thanks for sharing. My heart goes out to the poor Grindavik community who we know will be on tenderhooks for the next inevitable intrution. Very unsettling times for those poor people.
Beautiful video. Thank you so much. Hello from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Wow, this is the first time I actually got a good look at the extensive damage there! :( . Thank you.
No problem! I hope they are able to one day move back in.
@@thecrazyadventurist5796 Yeah, but sadly, I doubt that. As there are more eruptions due and this place is just surrounded now by lava :( . We're also concerned for the power plant to the nw. They've had to try to build the berms higher as some lava went over an area very close to them.
thank you for sharing :)))
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
I wish to all those who were displaced the best.
Iceland is beautiful, and people are awesome.
I hope so too!
Naval Air Station Keflavik used to go get fresh cod for the weekly USO Friday and Saturday night fish fry from Grindavik. We stopped by the town whenever we explored that area of the coast. It may take years, but the harbor will eventually bring back people.
The same forces that split Pangea apart still at play today
The Lava flows are a much lesser problem for Grindavik. The dykes largely held and only 3 houses where destroyed by lava, Many houese are uninhabitable or damaged by the moviing ground and the fissures that open everywhere. One Person died, because the ground opened up under him, when he was working with an earth compactor. They never found him.
That’s the scary part.
Quite over dramatic there don't you think....looks like most of the town is unharmed.
There is still risk for more volcanoes and more fissures. The event is not over. It could get worse.
This happened months ago. 3 houses were destroyed.
Stop being fake. Take real effort.
Does it look like only 3 houses were destroyed? There’s a huge fissure going through town.
@@thecrazyadventurist5796 It doesn;t only look like it. It is what happened.
No. More than three houses were destroyed because that's what it is. There are cracks in foundations of many houses. Some are literally tilting.
