• PARADIGM SHIFT - 1995
When I was a kid, I bought a "Christian electronica" album from an "ex-gay" pastor who went by Vegaschurchboy called Deep (2002). The music was all nightclub music because he wanted to reach those people from his past with his music. I liked it. Everyone else in the church van was like "okay, we listened to it for a few minutes for you... now we're gonna put normal music back on." I really should upload it to RUclips since I don't see any mirrors online anywhere. It's not the greatest album ever, but it's catchy at times. Songs like "beautiful people acting ugly", that no person is inherently ugly, they're just acting ugly. And a lot of people who are carrying a lot of shame for past decisions really resonate with that message.
That feels like the common story. A lot of the music I found sounded a little rough around the edges, but I think there's a lot of charm in that. I think it's worth preserving! Go for it!
The... "The church van"...?
This comment is a trip
I didn't think I wanted to rave out to Christian music today. Lol
So this is not an April fools joke then. I just briefly listened to two tracks from Texno Theology and they go HARD. I'm a sucker for any kind of Electronic music from the 1980s through the 1990s. Thank you for BLESSING us with such information.
what were the traxx?
Another Christian EDM artist is trance DJ Andy Hunter, whose tracks have shown up in the soundtracks for various EA games including Need For Speed Underground and SSX3.
2:55 was straight out of Sonic CD. Sounds like Robotnik Boss Music
it's the hardcore sound of 1993 B)
2:50 - so when are we gettin' that Christ of Rage beat 'em up game? :)
"Christ of Rage" is sending me, lmaooo
cleansing of the temple......... on sega genesis
I did not expect to find christian rave music.... and enjoy it.
the rush limbagh cosign is so fuckign funny
I never thought I would ever in my life say the phrase: "Woah, those Christians go hard."
I'm from rural Pennsylvania and we had a ton of these bookstores. I never once thought that they might be slinging completely banging techno, I feel like a real chump now.
Christian Bookstores are portals to a ton of media you won't find anywhere else. Quality is all over the place, so the only thing you can guarantee is Christianity.
You need to get into the World Wide Message Tribe, they were a massive part of Christian youth culture over here in the UK. The Real Thing even managed to get into the Billboard Dance charts in the US.
When I was a kid Christian bookstores were where we picked up Skillet and Relient K CDs. Plus they played veggie tales on a tv in one corner so it was alright.
I think the worst genre of Christian music I've heard is trap, which has all the aesthetic cues of trap but all about loving Jesus. It's hard to listen to and it's not good counterculture. Weird choice.
oh nooo, christian trap
i remember giving that a listen once and came to the same conclusion. weird stuff.
I try not to diss any music outright but that one's definitely not for me.
@@GSTChannelVEVO Yeah I don't want to outright dismiss the genre but it's not for me. I might just be out of touch haha. If you want a cool Christian band I'd check out Audio Adrenaline - Underdog and Some Kind of Zombie are both albums I think slap, despite not being active in the church anymore. Very preachy lyrics but the musicianship is solid.
@@EvilCoffeeInc Have you seen the VeggieKart (Mario Cart 8 Work in Process Hack) Great music and whoever did the models nailed the look!
@@f.k.b.16Sorry, I just saw this - no I haven't but I'll take a look. Veggietales has a soft spot in my heart even if I'm not in the church anymore. I'm sure the mods is great.
I am very familiar with N-Soul Records via their Nitro Praise albums while I was growing up. All of my peers, church and while attending private Christian schools were into rap and R&B, while I was obviously into the rave scene. I am familiar with groups like Paradigm Shift and Rhythm Saints--the latter being more or less in the House genre. But it even goes further with the song, "Fall Down (Spirit of Love)" from Gospel recording artist, Tramaine Hawkins (wife of late husband Walter Hawkins) back in 1985, in which that song in particular would be featured in the Gospel Remixes album in 2001. Hawkins also had associated acts with The Jackson 5. The song "Testify" from Gospel recording group, Donald Lawrence & the Tri-City Singers got remixes from House DJ, Junior Vasquez.
yeeesss nitro praise!
Todd Edwards is very religious, and makes straight up gospel garage quite often. He's been on two daft punk albums lol. His music is amazing!
Robert Hood / Floorplan also has excellent gospel techno!
как я тут оказался???
хорошее видео btw
I was thinking this was April fools, but no. Reality is weirder than fiction.
Oh oh oh, at the same time there was also a flowering Christian Industrial and Industrial Metal scene.
Do you know Clayton aka Celldweller? He actually has his roots from the Christian Industrial Metal scene, his first band Circle of Dust was under contract with the Christian music label REX Records and sold in those bookstores mentioned in the video.
oh holy shit! I only have one album of his but i did not see those roots. wild
Christian dance music definitely isn't as uncommon as you'd think. One album I've had for ages is Exodus by Andy Hunter. The first track from that album (Go) has been used in a bunch of games and movie trailers, but if you actually listen to the rest of the album, it's all about praisin' jebus and whatnot. I only realized that many years after I'd gotten the CD!
2:05 sorry, but is that just the word "BLESSED, BLESSED, BLESSED, BLESSED, BLESSED, BLESSED, BLESSED, BLESSED, BLESSED, BLESSED" repeated constantly?
that'd be super funny but I'm pretty sure it's a common "go!" vocal oneshot that appeared in assorted rave tunes back in the day
Ngl i was expecting something along the lines of crystal waters or whatever sonic r ost is but christian but this is actually dope.
they have a bit of that too, though i can't find any of the ones I liked on youtube...
except todd edwards. but he's pretty big.
Thought at first it's remix of popular traditional Christian songs/hymn, but found out different...
I’m a Christian New Zealander and I’m a MASSIVE Acid House, Jungle, and Psy-Trance fan. As a teen I went down the alternative music route simply because mainstream hip hop and R&B was turning very inappropriate. UK Garage, instrumental UK Grime, and Jungle were my go-tos back in the early 2000s. Not having any peers who enjoyed this music as much as I did made me feel a little lonely, both inside and outside of the church here in Auckland. But I’m so glad that I continued to research these genres and build my collection of life changing bangers. They have brought me so much joy over the years ❤❤❤
Christian musicians are actually behind most pop music these days. Many grew up playing in church. They are so good its effortless for them to produce bangers

Gospel House revival incoming
Damn, christian dnb? Time to bring the lord to our parties.
super neat video, thanks for sharing!
There is people making christian versions of almost every music genre and some of then are surprisingly good. For example, some years ago I discovered this guy, ZiggyBeats, that specialices in in christian trance music: ruclips.net/video/oKnkoCmslvs/видео.html ruclips.net/video/VuJUwUirjk8/видео.html (I didn't know it was a christian music composer at first 😅, but I love it anyway)
Really unexpected topic. I think I stumbled upon faith massive before. Sounds good!
One of my all time favourites is Gabriel (garage mix) by Roy Davis. It’s pretty religious, but not overly. Wonder if it came from a similar place.
But you know house is black music and so is gospel, so there is bound to be some overlap.
Calling out by Sophie Lloyd is a banger too!
And never forget: god is a DJ.
Upload the prodigal sons album if u can
I added a download link to the description!
@@GSTChannelVEVO nice
Are you a Christian yourself, GST?
nope. I was raised in a christian environment but quickly exited when I was able to.
edit to add: I suppose that could potentially add an odd framing. I'm an atheist but I'm not a fan of the trend of bashing religion. I'm hoping this video feels like a fun exploration of an unlikely crossover and not a so-called "cringe compilation".
Christ gang time
Anyone know songs like 2:50 from a secular side of the genre?
to varying extents! I'm going to list a few songs that come to mind, though the similarity ranges from "similar energy" to "similar composition technique"
some older cuts:
Kaotic Chemistry - Space Cakes
Kaotic Chemistry - Strip Search
The Prodigy - Everybody In The Place
The Prodigy - Full Throttle
some newer cuts:
Fat Frumos - RAVE MY CAT
goreshit - evilstab!
also possibly my fav oldschool use of that piano pattern, though with a much more light sound:
Awesome 3 - Don't Go
hopefully some of that is new to you!
Isn't there a page to listen to the music of prodigal sons? I have not been able to find it :(
no page, but one of the albums is on youtube, and I added a download link for the other.
Is this some weird April Fool's video? I don't even understand this video...
Looks like the copyright patrol have muted all the audio? 😢 Fixed now seems like
I really expected you to mention Raving Loonatics, that was my introduction to the techno scene in 2001, they (might) be actually good? The jury is still out, you should decide for yourself. Yes, they are a Christian band, they literally mix sermons into their tracks, which 3/10 times do actually go pretty hard.
Their best tracks in my opinion:
Pounding Music Culture (First on the CD, gotta start strong)
Bound (The buildup is important, give it time)
Into The Sun (This was my favorite by them)
Can you do artist feature about MUSE? They have a lot of credits for old VNs for the PC-98, X68000 etc. My favorites are X-Girl, Akiko Gold and Lam-Mal. I think the main composer's name is Akira Sato, but I never got into learning more about them (especially since most of the information is probably in Japanese).
WOW
YOU JUST BLEW ME MIND AWAY
THIS IS AMAZING
Thank you SOOO much!!!
Yo, where were these people when I was going to church classes as a teen? :\ Also, note to self: I have to check out some christian book stores.
Sounds pretty good actually, thank you for the discovery !
Dude thank you so much for uploading and sharing out this album.
This is not an April Fools joke?
lol I still have that album on my old ipod
Wow, these are nice.
Wow! It's not an april fool...
Wish you had mentioned Todd Edwards, he seems like the obvious choice for this sort of thing (he made funky garage with VERY christian lyrics, check out Prima Edizione to get what I mean)
oh yeah, for sure. I really trimmed down the scope of this video but now that a few ppl have mentioned it, I think a shoutout to Todd would've been nice. his chops are iconic. alas...
April fools joke or not, I need this album :D :D :D and it sucks because there is only 3 listings on discogs and NO youtube videos, spotify playlists exsist for the album. and a google search brings up something related to fucking genshin impact
Have you tried p2p networks like soulseek?
Interesting video, thank you! When I think of christian music, Todd Edwards comes to mind, gotta love that guy. I do believe he has lost his faith along the way, though.
oh yeah, I think Todd Edwards is the most well known example of christian rave music but he still deserves a mention! iconic garage bangers
The thing I find really weird is that they're a Christian versions of stuff like Shakira and Britney Spears.
that stuff feels a little bit like more of "how do you do, fellow kids". i'm not usually surprised by it, though i do find it kinda weird
Hey don't know if you're aware but when you say UK at 1:20 you show a picture of England for some reason.
In the same way the US has States, the UK has Constituent "Countries" (misleading name), of which England is only one of 4. The rest of the UK/Britain isn't shown: Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland. I suppose the US equivalent would be showing only California when saying here is the US.
Just looking out for my fellow British bros living in those parts of the country other than England. 🇬🇧 = 🏴+🏴+🏴+🏴 (Northern Ireland has no flag)
d'oh! I see exactly what happened too: I realized the groups I named were all from England and swapped out the map image to reflect that... and then neglected to redub. 🤦
@GST Channel Understandable bro and great vid, sry for the pedantry. I just wrongly assumed that this was another instance of a foreigner incorrectly referring to the UK as England (a personal pet peeve), which as you explained it isn't so apologies.
to be fair, that's a safe assumption, and would've been true 10 years ago :P
whats wrong with rush?
Bruh moment
Massively based
I'm getting some strong Streets of Rage 3 vibes from the Prodigal Sons track, those loops are blessed
I actually remember Paradigm Shift, heard it many years ago, probobly in the 90s or 00s. Then reminded myself of them on yt in the 2010s. Was just checking older techno and stumbled on them again. It was not bad at all.
