    WOW!!! Love them all. Especially the way the basket hilts are so intricate. The style of armor looks like a mix of east and west (for rich people). Too bad they don't let you try everything. Great video. Cheers from Canada.

      Couldn't agree more, the basket hilts were incredible in the complexity of their guard design. The hussar armor were not behind glass and was thoroughly mesmerised by them the most.

    Its nice to see the recognition the saber and hussars have gone in the recent decade (thanks Sabaton), but people tend to overlook the history of Polish knights and the straight sword in Polish history. In fact, when the saber started to become more common in Poland it was originally snubbed and looked down upon as the weapon of "Eastern Barbarians", the Mongol Invasion and tatars really soured its reputation, but was later adopted due to its effectiveness and the Union with Lithuania where it was already widespread. So its nice that this place does show , not just hussars and szablas, but also knights armors and straights swords form earlier periods.

      @jiskodadski3208  Год назад

      I understand and appreciate your point. Personally, I prefer the szabla from a purely martial arts perspective as the technique and aesthetic is more to my taste. The history is important too as I am of Polish heritage and find the earlier period you speak of fascinating too. Although it is a historical fiction, I particularly love the book Krzyżacy.

    is an "Windlass British 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Saber" an good stand in for an polish saber? i heard that they're similar since they were influenced by them?

    • @jiskodadski3208
      @jiskodadski3208  Год назад

      I cannot personally comment on the Windlass as I have never touched one myself, however that sword gets a lot of good reviews. As a stand in for Polish saber, British light cavalry have similar length and curvature to Polish sabers. The arrangement of the fullers and blade cross section design in Polish sabers vary, but some are similar to the British style fuller. The main difference is in the handle design as Polish handles tend to be straight. But overall, they have enough similarities to be able to practice Polish techniques with a British saber or British military saber techniques with a Polish saber if you only had one or the other available.

    Do you know the name and from which period is the helmet at 2:05 ?

    • @jiskodadski3208
      @jiskodadski3208  7 месяцев назад +1

      The helmet you ask about is a winged hussar helmet. I am not sure if that exact helmet in the video has a name, but if search google for "winged hussar helmet" you will get many examples of that exact style. Theses helmets are from the 17th century.
      The one you pointed out with time stamp is also my personal favourite. I am not sure why you ask, but although I do not own any personally, modern replicas of hussar helmets are available for purchase online.

    • @jiskodadski3208
      @jiskodadski3208  7 месяцев назад

      There are a couple of theories about the purpose of the wings. Some claim it's for aesthetic reasons alone, which is very cool but others have speculated the practical purposes. Some claim they make a unique sound when the horses are galloping, which the hussar horses are familiar with but spooks the appends horses.
