It is easy for all us armchair heros sat here watching this recovery and to make comments good or bad. But put yourself in Greg's position working in difficult conditions and on camera trying to do a recovery safely and with minimal damage. It isn't about speed. It's about doing a job safely, Yes there are several ways to recover that car. But at the end of the day, it was done safely and without any further damage. Well done GDB.
Job done and safely is the main thing but personally I'd say you where over complicating the job. Could of been done just as safely but a lot quicker and with less equipment
I would have used a pole to push the straps underneath the vehicle wrap the cable over the front wheel to straighten the vehicle, the tension from the cable would have pulled the front wheel down while the cable underneath the vehicle would have tightened up lifting the vehicle but stopping it from turning onto the roof. once clear use a strap on the tree to pull the vehicle onto its wheels. If the damaged fence was in the way I would have removed that first. Asking your partner to straighten the wheels while stationary makes turning the wheels harder so use the winch to inch the vehicle forward helping to straighten the wheels. I was really surprised the police never showed up after what must have been 3 hours into the recovery. You guys did a really good job.

Loving the content recently. With the Navara, I always think that your rear reds need to be angled up more so are that they are level with traffic otherwise most of the light is just going straight to the floor. Also a roll or two of some barrier tape might be a very useful addition for jobs like this, where you could run some tape across the pavement railing to stop anyone coming down when winching as I'm sure most people would just walk straight past those cones on the path. You could also run tape between the tops of your cones if you didn't have anywhere to tie to. On this job a Milwaukee angle grinder would have come in pretty useful.

How did you do your winching calculations? Which rope type and size for swl? You do know you can’t winch or lift off a bridge or supports without a structural engineer and highway approval ?
If you're interested, the IVR produce tables for winching calculations, there are also countless resources for the same on the interwebs. In reality, you match the swl of your cable to the capacity of your winch. Either your winch will stop or your truck will move long before you exceed the breaking point of your cable. So to sum it up, the recovery operator has kitted out their accident unit to deal with most situations, he knows from practical experience that the loads he is applying are well within the tolerance of his equipment because he has spec'd the equipment in advance.
