I am not a doctor, I am a Leukemia CLL patient since 2014 and am going through my 2nd period where the disease is very active and I get a lot of transfusions. The 'Doom' issue struck me as interesting because when I get very short of breath and am gasping for air like a fish out of water, I become overwhelmed with that sense of doom. I cannot make any intelligent decisions , like sit or lay down, I become reduced to the animal all higher thought process gone. I have specific trainiing in responding to situations without panicking or controlling the panic from years of decompression SCUBA diving, flying a Cessna 172. So I've been surprised that I get such an overwhelming incapacitating sense of 'Doom.' I've had out of air emergencies at 115 feet deep and I kept my cool. Thannk you for your podcasts, they are engaging and really well done,
I just had a bad reaction to a transfusion the nausea and pain in my back, chills and muscle spasm head and pain in my spine was something I never want to go through again. The nurses and the doctors did everything they could to get me back to normal which worked. They turned off the transfusion straight away gave me antihistamines and Panadol and anti nausea medications. Slowly I came back to normal after three hours of horror. 24 hours later I have a head ache and a feeling of weekness only . None of the doctors in my small outback hospital had seen anything like this happen before. Thank you for this video now I know what actually happened. But not too sure if I want this to happen again. I have low Igg Iga ect. And have been having these infusions all my life. Nothing like this has happened before.
This is incredibly helpful for pathology residents. Going to watch all of your videos (repeatedly) over the next 2 months while I'm on blood bank. Thank you!
2018 here. I watched your video while I was taking courses, than watch them again for my internship, than again for my ASCP Exam ... I feel like if I hear your voice somewhere I will recognize you ....
