For as long as members of the Royal St Lucia Police Force have carried weapons, they have used them on persons of unsound mind when responding to a disturbance. Granted, suspected lunatics can be violent, unpredictable and threatening to themselves and the general public. In the past, “mad men” have killed innocent civilians. Every time a mental health patient dies, it is accompanied by the usual rhetoric from Ministry of Health officials, not to mention the police. On average 3 mentally ill people are killed by police each year in St Lucia. This documentary examines the who, what, why, where, when and how of some of these killings and begs the question, how could this be avoided?
