If you recommend a piece to read in The Athletic it is really annoying to come up against a paywall. Why not put in a link for that article and make it open access?
I get why the AGs viewed the NWSL as the entity that was ultimately responsible for the failure to protect players, but I can't get past the fact that, during that era of the league, the league was under the direct management of U.S. Soccer. The failures of leadership came BEFORE the league was independent of U.S. Soccer, and I can't help but feel like the federation has gotten away with never having to face responsibility for its negligence.
