Man that's neat to see it going back together. I remember reading about it in articles and editorials you wrote over 30+ years ago in Hot Rod mag . I was just in high school back then and my first car was a 67 Chevelle. It was in one of the first "readers rides" issues in 89. Thank you for that. Years later I worked as a professional restorer and one of my favorite restorations I worked on was a blue 66 Chevelle SS with a white interior . No telling how often I was washing my hands to keep em clean as I put that interior together.
This car started a lifelong fondness for Chevelles for me. I subscribed to Car Craft and Hot Rod, and my favorite articles were always the ones Jeff wrote about this car. I bought a Lemans Blue '69 in High School, heavily influenced by Jeff and this '66. I vaguely remember the old license plate (was it ANT 291?), but that's getting close to 40 years ago. Thanks for hanging in there with this car.
Love seeing the progress you are making!! The channel is great as you were my favorite editor at Hot Rod and just a cool dude.Keep it coming and we will be anxiously awaiting more content,
Nice!!! My highschool car was a 66 Barracuda which I still own. It will be in some future videos, once we finish a couple other things!!! Looking good!
Coming along nicely. Boy, pretty soon you're going to be passed me with my 66 restoration, that I've mentioned before. I do have a question. In the still shot you have of the motor with the valve covers off and showing the roller rockers. Is that the motor for your 66? I like the look of those valve covers on the motor in the frame. I just wasn't sure they were tall enough to clear roller rockers. One other question. You mentioned sending photos of the progress on my 66. Do you know how to add them to a comment on a youtube video like this?
Yes, te stilll shot of the engine showing the rockers is my engine on the dyno. I think we were changing intake manifolds or something. That photo is from over 25 years ago! The engine has not run since. Amazing how time flies...Yes those valve covers are from PML and will clear the roller rockers no problem. I don't know how to add photos to this reply series - sorry.
Eeeesh, white interior!!! You're gonna have to get a set of going to town clothes that you have never worked on cars it, then it might stay clean, I think I remember pics of that thing all torn apart on a trailer in a magazine issue somewhere, going to be cool to see it together and running.
I noticed the clutch z bar mount. Was that factory for 66? I never seen one like that before. I have a 64 that I'm converting to a 4 speed and having trouble with the aftermarket linkage alignment.
Lee - I'm asuming you mean the mount that's located on the frame. That's a factory bracket that's always been there. What alignment problem are you having?
@@jeffsmith2003 yes that is the bracket I was referring to. The bracket that I have and have always seen is the small pad type bracket that welds to the side of the frame. The alignment issue I'm having is on the z bar to the pedal, the lever is too tall and about a inch and a half off to one side that keeps the clutch rod from the pedal to the z bar in a really bad angle. The rod even hits the firewall on top of the access hole. I ordered the kit from OPG. I also had alignment problems when I was doing the 4 speed clutch linkage in my 68 el Camino using OPG linkage kit?
@@leewilliams9586 Lee - it might be the z-bar is wrong. It would not be teh first time a repro part was really for anohter application. I have a couple of differnet z-bars. Send me an email with specs - maybe there's one that will fit better. My email is lanejsmith@yahoo.com

Coming along nicely. I remember long ago you mentioning in a story that you brought one of your newborn kids home from the hospital in this car. 👍👍👍
Looking forward to see this project come together. It's awesome you didn't let this get away!

And then you could get a 427 installed by certain dealers for even more fun.
