That hot fit you did for the guard? That's a great technique. I never thought to fit the guard that way before, makes perfect sense & perfect tight fit. I never stop learning something new. This is why it's good education to watch different Smiths.
I just finishd my first ever forging project - a seax. The guys teaching me mentioned you. Because of my recent experience and learning, I totally understood this vid. Mine is not nearly as nice ss yours but I am happy with it. Subbed
Mate, this is brilliant! I have a little bit of a seax obsession, I think this is the best I've seen for a while. Great authentic look to it, I'm so tired of all these over the top flashy seaxs with brass bolsters. Big fan of your channel - keep it up!
Really love the profile in the ricasso, i always worry about the straight blade to handle transition but that little curve you have in yours looks much more finger friendly.
John, I like you just jump into the work. These guys how talk the job to death just kill me. I turn them off before they get to working!!! LOL! Good job John, l like the knife, looks good!
Wow, first time I've seen it sunny in one of your videos.. it's like home here in Vancouver, BC area... Jeeze, the rain! One January a couple years back had 31 straight days of rain.. Like effing monsoon season...
Excellent knife, I made a seax from an old file and used a piece of pipe wrapped with leather for the handle and two nuts (rounded off where they meet the handle) for bolsters...I ground and polished out the blade to where you just barely see the lines of the file...doesn't look to bad, but I like the way you closed down on the bolsters...really enjoy your videos!
Very nice work i love your chanel! i am a little woried about the tip maybe needed a little more tempering i have made this mistake many times with my knifes becouse the tip is easy to overtemper you try to avoid that and end up with a very hard tip..
william731 you can. I just don’t like doing it that way. Depending on how long the blade is and how deep you forge your bevels you are probably going to still end up with a curve even if you forge in a recurve that you will have to correct so I just correct it as I go.
Old Hickory Forge yeah I noticed some of your beauty shots were much better. Didn't know if it was a different camera or not. I struggle with the same thing in the wood shop. I have caught it in post before.
Logan Sumrell yeah I do all my filming on my iPhone and I put it in and out of the pockets of my work pants with my dirty hands so much. I’ll definitely be taking greater care in the future
I LIKE THE WAY YOU MAKE YOUR VIDEOS: YOU'RE NOT TRYING TO BE FUNNY OR WITTY, AND YOU GO TO THE POINT. GOOD JOB.
No power hammer, no power tools... That's the way we want. Good job, you're a monster!!!!!!
Great video. I have more respect for people who forge rather than stock removal guys.
That's why I love the Seax. It's a simple, but versatile design. You can use it for most applications and they can be Forged out quickly.

Here is the Seax knife video! I absolutely love mine and much happier with the replacement I got. Thanks again John.
Beautiful seax, no matter how you pronounce it! Sharp, solid and looks great!

nicely done ;)
You mentioned another channel to purchase this with the sheath. What's the other channel and or do you have another like this knife?. It's beautiful.
What is the price on something like this ?
I am your 1500th subscriber
As always awesome work..were do u locate rod iron for these projects would like to find some to try
Brian Chadwell the wrought iron I used here came from an old wagon wheel rim
Just curious, why not put a reverse bend into the blade before hammering the bevels to counter the natural bending?

I love the videos, please clean your lens though. It would make your vids look so much better. Keep up the good work.
Logan Sumrell I actually noticed that when I was editing haha. I’ve since cleaned it.

That is an awesome blade would you say its a good knife for a beginner to make?
Odin All Father I would say so yes. Its pretty straight forward. It can be simplified or made really elaborate
I went the no power tools for my first knife, never again
How much would you charge for a knife like that?
Tom Carver this one with a sheath went for 200
John how do I get to your store? I need this in my life! #phenomenalexample...
Dillon Corwin there’s a link to the Etsy in the description
It will be up for sale as soon as the sheath is done. Probably be early next week
More vid
Pretty seaxy
Nordic pronunciation of Seax is Sax or Säx (Sæx)
That’s sexy.
