- Hello, my name is Floris Postmes and I am a 18 year old knifemaker from the Netherlands.
THANKS TO JACOB FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO COMPLETE WITH HIS LOVELY TUNES!! CHECK HIM OUT RIGHT HERE:

In this video you see me make my interpretation of a Scandinavian Seax. This is by NO MEANS A TRADITIONAL PIECE! Usually I feel very attracted to cultures from all over the world, this is a nice thing but as makers we tend to drift away from the beauty our local history and product have to offer. Being able to experience the process and sharing this with you feels great. Sharing this video really helps me to make my dream come true; becoming a full-time bladesmith. Please do so if you liked what you saw.
Thank you guys so much!
This piece is not for sale, do you want me to make you something similar or a completely different knife? This is possible, please check out this link to my website page on how to order a knife:

Great video. Quit overthinking stuff. Those exotic hardwoods in other countries are also used to make their shipping pallets, And your local woods to them are exotic. It doesn't matter what wood you use.
I agree with you, sir Alaskan. Use your local resources. Local materials with handcrafted goods is what gives them their value. People use scraps of ebony worth several dollars to carve something and selling price is way over your budget if you want to buy it. At my old place, olive wood was THE wood for small items and knife handles and now when I live few hundred meters from mediteranean coast, I see people using olive wood as a fuel in winter and I was paying nice amount of money for the small pieces of branches. It's all about the availability of the resources.
As a Southeast Asian, yes! a lot of craftspeople over here would kill to get their hands on some maple or walnut
Oh man, that is art mate ! really beautiful weapon ! Just beautiful ! Cant find words for them ! Stunning
I'm from Indonesia
I'm happy because you still care about culture
I know this world will continue to progress and develop. I know this world will become more modern from time to time
But that does not mean we have to forget the culture that already exists in this world
Because that will be our identity and where we come from
Outstanding job. I’ve been following you on Instagram since 2016-2017. Watching your skills develop over the years has been cool to watch. I remember watching your short video with jeroen in fact I have a 2.5 rounding hammer and a pair or pick up tongs he made me. I use them everyday. Keep up the great work.
Moss Custom Knives so good to hear! Thansk so much, Jeroen does great work indeed! I use his stuff daily as well
~jelte
great sounds! great art work man! beautiful film as always too
Love how you carry your pride for you culture , Mate n
Your knife is impressive Gracias For Sharing
I fully agree - tradition is wonderful and a global world must keep traditions as well so people will enjoy them for centuries to come.
You do a wonderful work - keep going and good luck.
Happy new year!
When a society loses its traditions the society becomes lost.
@@Ravigyne agreed. Yet, it needs to keep these traditions and be as modern as the rest of the world in order to expand and grow.
@@Smallathe The best traditions are like any art and craft. They grow and evolve, and thus never become outdated. It is only the worst of traditions that are left to the pages of history, as well they should be.
@@Ravigyne generally I agree :)
You had an epiphany, no need to to hang on to where you where. Lesson learned, keep moving toward the next challenge or awakening. 😎😉
Beautiful work Floris and Jacob!
Wow everything looks beautiful to me.
Wow buddy, this museum fit looks great on your seax.

Wow.... Not much of a power tool..but still very beautiful. That's what i called blacksmithing..
you are man your work best
Enig advies?
Good
AWESOME WORK💪
why it has so little vievs??
Semangat floris
Can i buy your knife?
Like :)
more like a viking style backsword.
old craftsmanship is gonna disappear, new generations learn no skills to survive, all done by computers and machines.
Can I have a job please
Stop with the philosophy lessons stop showing the guitar 🎸 play and just make the bloody knife
You are bit of philosopher and an existentialist.... this is a knife build floris... maybe get a whole foods shopper card and feel better about the world
Great video and great music. Your thoughts strike a chord within me. It's so easy now to get everything canned, but making something with one's own hands putting in one's own soul like the blades we make and like the music you used for the video and the things we take from the place we live in is so much more satisfying. Your video is a pleasure to watch and listen to. Keep up the good work!
you are man your work best
Now that was a satisfying video to experience not just watch, thanks Jacob for the music and thanks Floris for stepping things up a few notches, really enjoyed the editing!
Hello from Indonesia! Just found your video now. I really love how you combine about music, blacksmithing, and your opinion. it's amazing. subs!
Absolutely amazing video Floris. I found it very captivating and loved the music, almost dreamlike to watch. Your words about the world in which we all live were so true. Keep forging and I look forward to seeing more in 2020. Merry Christmas and may the New Year deliver your dreams.
Reale amazing so nice 🌹
Thanks im from indonesia👍👍👍👍
Nicely done. In craftsmanship there is risk, always. Your results will improve with practice. Forge on!
Where were you guys when I was growing up, fuck. All my friends were idiots. Keep making knives.
were seax blades really that long and big?
p.s really loved the video. every time i watch one of your videos i learn how i can improve my skills as a bladesmith.
so thank you for being a source of inspiration.
Some were used as a knife, some were used in battle...so yes, but maybe a bit shorter
I agree. THE seax is mutch to Long. This is a sword not a knife. But i like the video and craftmanship a lot. Thanx.
Yesssss finaly !!!!!
The word that comes to mind with what you are saying is integrity
Beautiful insights.
Boring movie!! 😰😰
Cool dude. Love it
Very nice Swort!
Precious
Amazing
good job boy
Super👍👍
Good
👍
Great production Floris. The Seax looks great too.
Awesome blade and wish you and your family a great Christmas too, my lineage descends from northern Iberian/Celtic and the Saex speaks to my DNA. D
Great video and beautiful Seax, Floris. How is that fly press working for you for making damascus billets ?
Very nice to hear your insight during the video. Beautiful work
Beautiful knife looks like a Finnish Leuku knife.
Great video! I really enjoyed it.
Hell yeah man!
Show
Damascus with a twist! The twisting of the hot steel after the Damascus was formed made a very attractive blade. The handle work was also attractive. What was the handle made from?
I like Oak

I'm partial to olive wood.
Gorgeous work, the video complimented nicely by the music. very talented young man, there.
One great advantage of locally sourced materials is cost - MUCH cheaper, usually. A piece of spalted maple, ex firewood, made ten knife handles -
As well, you are supporting the local economy - not the international.
