    This is a perfect calling card. With what you have presented, it’s easy to design what is needed.
    You are doing all the work. The lazy couch and lazy wheelchair are doing nothing. They should lift you in place. They should get you a beer. Couches have a section that is a recliner. Develop further to get to wheelchair seat level. Mechanical lateral slide.
    Why not a ramp? Drive up to be couch height, ease off. Why not a soft seat swing? If there were a crossbar over the couch it could accept the hardware, a soft seat swing like for toddlers at the playground.
    Hard to find, but there are transfer chairs that clasp torso of the patient, wheel out from there. Meant for caregiving use, but modify to use alone.
    The dearth of assistive devices is shocking. We are so far behind.
    Looking for love in all the wrong places. What can be improvised is at the toy store or camping store. Use gym trainers to help design.
    Physical therapy is a different skill set. Gyms have slant boards, resistance exercise tools, overhead grips, weights, rubber safety mats. You need a gym trainer for a fresh eye.
    What is needed has to be designed, in the meantime, improvise.
    You could use dollar store pool noodles extensively. Attach to the outside of your legs in your morning routine.
    A tie down cord, a bungee cord, something quick and easy. Now your leg is easy to manually grip. If there were a crossbar over your bed, attach hooks to be able to suspend legs in comfort. New-type arm slings are lightweight soft cloth that hold the arm in comfort. Use pool noodles under your knees, under your neck.
    Wheelchairs are more lame than their patients. The patient devises methods. Wheelchairs just sit there.
    They should
    be voice activated to extend a bridge, the transfer bridge had been a side arm, now extended.
    Watching your well made vid, an intern could design solutions immediately. Engineering students would make short work of it,
    Biden plan has business startup money. Design, the world sure needs it.

    Great video, Shawn! Just a suggestion for you, but maybe you already have one by now, is an I-watch. You could leave your phone pretty much anywhere in the house and use your I watch to call for help or text. I find it very helpful in not having to drag my phone around the house all the time. I even have it set up with Siri so I don’t have to use my fingers on the small touchscreen.

      Hey sorry it's took so long for me to reply but yeah I thought about getting an iWatch but I've been a long time Android user so I haven't worked up to the change yet LOL. I watched us as a lot of really cool features like fall detection and the ability to check pushes which I think is amazing since they're the only ones that have that. I'll let you know if I become a convert 😆

    My husband is the same level and has a manual chair but deals with skin break down and a wide sitting “stance?” So his feet won’t stay on his foot plate… any advice?

    • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  5 месяцев назад

      I use an item called cat tongue tape and run it across my footplate to help keep them from slipping too much. They still do sometimes but it helps. If you have a facebook or instagram, I can send you the product picture.
      We have live shows on the channel, too. If you and your husband haven't watched or popped in the chat yet-m it's a great way to get community support.

    Also, what type of cushion do you have? A gel one? It seems very compact/solid, good for tranfers. My boyfriend has a roho one ( the expensive one, filled with hair, it has a weird structure of silicon 'cones', let's say), and we tried some transfers, but I noticed that his cushion tends to 'divide' (the cones move), which makes it harder and also kind of unsafe when sliding back on the cushion, I guess. Anyway thanks for the great videos!

    • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  3 года назад +1

      Hey thanks for the support! My cushion is a Roho Nexus spirit so it has the air pockets just in the back under my tailbone/butt area and the front of the cushion is foam so it's more supportive so it's easier to transfer to and from. So it's still a Roho air cushion in the spots that you really need it but supportive on the edges where you need to transfer.

    If you didn't have as much cushion distance in front of your wheel and side guard, could you still do this transfer? What are your suggestions for taking baby steps at this? Any weight exercises that you do that help with this dramatically?

    • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  3 года назад +1

      I use this to move even little movements toward the chair and I can't get the chair any closer unless I could take off the wheel.. So yeah I use it for pretty much any transfer.
      To learn it I had someone helping me at first. I would try to anything I could and stayed in the position but had help scooting my butt up and then lifting for the transfer. Slowly I got to where I could scoop myself but not the lift. I would still push as hard as I could and when I pushed the person helping would lift but over time they lifted less and I did more until one day my brother just looked at me after a transfer and said he didn't lift at all so it was all me pushing. I still had help around for a few months until I got fully confident doing the transfer. I plan to make a video of how to do this soon..

    • @krshirk
      @krshirk 3 года назад

      @@LiveToRoll thanks man! I look forward to the video! When I do a regular transfer, locking arms out and sliding on board, I can get it solid sometimes for months and then all of a sudden I can't transfer for shit and need help every time! I hear you about confidence because when that happens I lose it and second-guess whether I can make the transfer or not.
      I really want to try your type of transfer but I just wonder if my chair mechanics will even allow me. My foot plate is kinda high off the ground where my full feet don't touch the floor, and I don't have a lot of exposed cushion in front of my wheels. When I transfer normally I have to really angle the chair in where the pushrim isn't even touching the side of my bed, so that I'm able to get my butt around in front of the wheel and then into the chair..... I also have an ergo frame. Do you think you could do your transfer in a chair that has an ergo seat? Have you ever tried?
      Thanks again! 👊

    • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  3 года назад

      Yeah sometimes you can lose confidence in your transfer but just keep working on it. The chair design might make it a little harder with not much cushion in front of the wheel but the ergo isn't a problem. I don't have ergo but the guy who I learned to transfer from uses an ergo seat with no issues.

      @@LiveToRoll. There are curtain tracks. A set of hooks slide in the closed bar, the hooks have a gater clamp which would hold a light blanket. Now roll the blanket up. Or try a shower curtain pole. Slide the blanket towards you.

    I do have to say that I have not seen your leg spasms that aggressive and severe and intense in a long time. You must have just been overly spastic that day. They threw you around a couple times. Be ever so careful not to stop them before they're done, because they'll just come back, if they're not done shaking out yet.

    • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  3 года назад +1

      Those are pretty typical daily spasms for me. I just used to cut them out of the videos but I decided just to leave it all in there so people can see what it actually is like. I used to try to speed up the video and make it look cleaner by taking the spasms out but they were always there.

    • @grantkitson5344
      @grantkitson5344 3 года назад

      @@LiveToRoll This is just an idea, but I think for September, since it is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, you should do a detailed video all about your daily body and leg spasms. I think that would be educational. Even if that short video, your spasms almost threw you out of the couch and chair a couple times.

    I'm a quadriplegic I like to drink beer anyone else get a beer belly? I don't know how to get the weight off. Also I've been quadriplegic for over 9 years and I've had penis shrinkage like unreal. Anyone else?

    • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  3 года назад +1

      The quad belly is a pretty common issue for most quads. I have a lot of trunks spasticity that keeps my core muscles stronger and my gut from getting is big but it does happen all of us. I know a lot of guys that have used electric stimulation for their muscles they even make a belts that stimulate your stomach muscles so you can just wear them while you're hanging out for an ab workout lol.

    • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  3 года назад +1

      Oh also on the penis shrinkage I have heard other quads and Paras talk about that as well. There's a group on Facebook called SCI locker room that's all for guys after spinal cord injury and to talk about stuff like that. That might be a good place to check out for some info.
