Suny explains the "Decolonizing History" title of the video as reflective of the movement of him, Sheila Fitzpatrick and similar historians who from the 1960s examined and published about non-Russian minorities and republics of the Soviet Union. For example, Suny's first book, published in 1972, is titled “The Baku Commune, 1917-1918: Class and Nationality in the Russian Revolution.”
Suny's next book is being written. It is on his examination of the modern origin of the nation-state form of governance. He expects it to last for another century or more.
