We adopted a standard poodle puppy who we didn’t know had parvovirus at the time. A couple of days after adopting him we noticed he was seeming lethargic and that’s when we got a call from the rescue that the other puppies in his litter had tested positive for parvo. It was scary and hard and even though one of his brothers didn’t make it we were able to nurse him through it. He’s a happy and healthy four year old pupper now. We fed him chicken stock every 2-4 hours (it’s the dehydration and weakness from not eating that gets them) and several times a day we gave him soft scrambled eggs and homemade yogurt. Anything bland and full of protein. But the chicken stock was the most important bc it kept him hydrated and provided some nutrition. He’s doing great now. A totally neurotic but loving boy puppy. I just adore him.

I'm getting over norovirus myself and it's the same: dehydration, lack of any food but also of protein.
At least I have done my growing and had all my shots, and was healthy to begin with.
She's gorgeous, and the kids are adorable and so good with her! I loved watching Abby go from being a little timid - someone else's turf, after all - to rolling around in a big happy pile of kids and dogs!
Abby is beautiful, but the older black dog, Slade, is such a beautiful dog as well.

Slade seems like a very young dog too - it looks like once Abby adjusted to his very large size & enthusiasm, they could have wonderful times playing + getting into mischief together!

The foster carer did a great job in raising Abby to be confident and adaptable. I was a little worried at first as to how she would get on with Slade who is large and dominant, but Abby seemed to manage the situation quite well. She's a really sweet dog.

when I saw Slade, the fact he was a Lab told me he would do well with other animals
Like any breed , gotta watch the breeding , I have two black lab boys out of chocolate parents ,and they need lots of excersize, a firm hand , and training to keep to keep them from boredom. Inbreeding is the cause of most behavior problems in my opinion.

I was nibbling my lip a little worriedly until I saw Slade pup and how much he was another member of the family then I just hoped all would go well so Abby could be taken care of by this loving generous, gorgeous family. rescued a pittie mix ,Doobie , our old girl lexxie would have nothing to do with her for 4 days she would run through screen doors to get away from Doobie then wham they had parvo and Doobie gave it to the old dog … ive never witnessed anything so sick as those two doggies … with research and lots of work ,due to not having 3k per dog to doctor them , I laid on the floor for three days with them squeezing water into their mouths and hand feeing them chicken they both pulled through … the medice I scored on the 16th vet who could not help them without 4-6k upfront … I had 1700 and it takes 4 days to get a loan … however the 16th vet I called helped me by giving them the meds for 800 and I did the quarantine myself … my point is parvo can be beat
Parvo is no joke. Growing up, we got a German Sheppard and was told he had all his shots. He came down with parvo and was so touch and go for days. I remember doing pedi-lite every 30 mins - hour. He thankfully was able to pull through. We took a closer look at the shot records and the "Vet" was a made up vet and papers were forged so they could make a quick profit. We now do our research a whole lot more thorough. He ended up living to his senior age and passed away from natural causes, but I will always remember those days.

Lol dont act like you did something heroic. You adopted a cute puppy, not an abused or abandoned older dog. That puppy would have found a home regardless, especially considering how many people PAY for puppies, and this family got one for cheap with just the adoption fee. These stories don’t need to be highlighted. Young healthy puppies getting adopted is not an extraordinary act of kindness.
