    UPD: Recently I have released my first solo ambient guitar album "Fade to Rise". Please listen to it and buy it if you like. It will be a GREAT SUPPORT to me!
    mikemed.bandcamp.com/album/fa...
    It’s been a looong looong time since I got down my Roland GR-33 guitar synth from a top shelf. Now I’m ready for new experiments with it… The main reason why I didn’t use it in Live soundscaping much was that it took a lot of space on a floor and it enlarged my stomp-boxes bag nearly twice when I traveled))) Well maybe not twice, but let’s say “significantly”…
    Now I’m back to it. And it’s definitely worth playing! Especially if you want to make your sound as fat as possible. Saying that I don’t mean you should sound like an orchestra all the time, but sometimes we all would like to)
    Another reason to use guitar synth is that GR will surely vary your soundscapes. At first you will use it much then you will use it less, but finally you will find a good place for that in your mix. Maybe it will be on a top shelf for a while)
    Technical note about this video:
    Before starting to play I have recorded a “blank” loop - phrase 1 - it lasted 3 bars in 4/4 measure. I didn’t use a click but watched at the Strymon Timeline’s blinking diode that gave me an idea of time. The phrase 1 was not mentioned to be strictly synchronized in time with the phrase 2 so it was OK for me.
    I didn’t include this preliminary part in video because it would be boring to see me doing nothing for 15 seconds or so… The reason I have recorded this “blank” loop first is simple. Most of the modern loopers are not seamless - it means they make a small drop out of sound in the place where the loop’s tail meats its head. That’s how loopers differ from long delays. Delay doesn’t have this problem - you can layer droning sound smoothly.
    The gear and soft I used:
    Godin Multiac ACS Nylon SA
    Godin Solidac with Roland GK-2 midi pick-up
    Fishman Aura Spectrum DI
    Roland US-20
    Roland VG-99
    Boss EV-5 foot controller for VG
    Roland GR-33
    Strymon Timeline
    Strymon BigSky
    Boomerang looper III
    Lexicon Omega
    Cubase 5

    Amazing! Simply amazing! You know what would be cool? If you did a separate overdubbed “directors cut” commentary version of this telling us what you were doing as it happens and what you were thinking at the time. That’s something I would pay for.
    When you create this art, is it all pre-though out in terms of sounds, notes, chord progressions, delay times, etc? It seems there is no way the delays can be random. It has to be almost mathematical so it doesn’t become a washed out mess.
    Again, AMAZING!

      +Tommy Kavounidis Thanks! I don't think I use some tricky ways to get my sound, at least I always try to describe my approach to it. If not than let me know) who knows, maybe later I'll do some. Music is always at the first place for me, not the tutorial component of these videos. Thought I always glad to share)

    Подписался. Михаил,такой вопрос. если я хочу управлять громкостью при записи(лень руками автоматизацию в DAW делать каждый раз для каждого аккорда),как лучше выстроить цепь? Просто я не уверен,подойдется ли схема гитара - педаль громкости - аудиоинтерфейс. Возможно правильнее будет использовать какой-то миди контроллер в качестве педали экспрессии? Как бы Вы порекомендовали поступить,учитывая что все эффекты накладываются уже в DAW?

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  7 лет назад

      +Петро Фономег Спасибо! Есть масса вариантов. Во многом зависит от аудиоинтерфейса. Если это многоканальная звуковая карта, то в студийном варианте, помимо всего прочего, можно прописать дополнительно чистый звук гитары ( нужен будет какой-то сплиттер, я иногда с output vg-99 забираю чистый звук) и потом этот чистый звук, при необходимости, реампить. Да в вообще делать с ним что угодно.
      Я использую педаль контроллер, а не педаль громкости. Подключаю ее к vg-99. Теоретически, думаю, данные с педали через миди-кабль из vg-99 можно записать на комп.
      В Вашем случае проблема в том, что вся обработка в компьютере. Т.е. Педаль громкости в аудио цепи, с одной стороны, никак не влияет на автоматизацию в daw. С другой стороны Вы уже пропишете звук гитары со всеми этими затуханиями и подъемом громкости и потом это никак не поменять ( если это будет нужно). Для этого как раз может пригодиться чистый звук гитары после сплиттера.
      Лично я бы в Вашем случае ( если все "примочки" в компе) поискал вариант педали-контроллера, подключаемой напрямую к компьютеру. В компьютере бы назначил все необходимые параметры, контролируемые этой педалью ( в большинстве случаев это была бы громкость - т.е. То, что делает педаль громкости в обычной аудио цепи). Таким образом, Вы бы получили а) дорожку с чистым звуком гитары, б) миди трек с автоматизацией педали-контроллера, который в дальнейшем можно как угодно редактировать - это чертовски удобно)))
      Надеюсь получилось понятно объяснить) если нет, то спрашивайте)

    • @Mgenis1
      @Mgenis1 7 лет назад

      +Mikhail Medvedev значит гитара сразу в карту, и миди-контроллерная педаль тоже в карту?

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  7 лет назад

      +Петро Фономег да, гитара в карту, а педаль-контроллер нужно посмотреть какие сейчас есть варианты подключения. Скорее всего просто USB можно найти

      No, it's just ACS. I found it difficult to play slim with nylon strings, because I use some techniques in left hand where distance between strings should be bigger. But generally Slim is also a great instrument.
