I remember a full-on panic by a very vocal minority over a baby doll that came with a little sports bra-like top that came with flowers on it so children could simulate breastfeeding. Like little girls have never simulated the act of breastfeeding on their baby dolls. I know I did. But my family wasn't freaked out over me doing it, my Mom asked what I was doing, and I told her I was feeding my baby. She just laughed a little and went about her day. I'm so confused why people can't support natural play, it's not like any of these toys are going to get your kids pregnant by osmosis...

Those, they are able to use markers to alter makeup, take kiddie scissors to give them interesting haircuts, and, in rough play, end up losing the doll a leg or arm or two. Around age 7, they could have a Mattel Barbie with a Grandma or Mama made wardrobe. From there, they are taught to sew their own dolly wardrobes. Even later, they can learn to knit a Barbie sweater or skirt from vintage patterns.
That's a pretty smart excuse for knockoff barbies! It's also really cool that you made the Barbie clothes yourself and taught your kids to do it themselves!
My folks couldn't afford a real Barbie, so i got a knock off Barbie. I designed then sewed and knitted her clothes, made and decorated her cardboard houses❤. I still, at 57, have that doll, and continue to sew and knit my own dedigns. 😊❤

I will do for her what my Mother did for me...create a boot box full of vintage Barbie fashions for my newest grandgirl, and consider getting GI Joe dolls for my two grandsons. Five grandchildren total!! God is good.

The pregnant doll thing was a manner of the times. It was an earlier time in Barbie history and some parents thought it would encourage teen pregnancies for whatever reason or girls to want to get pregnant. It was a more conservative time and people had s ome of the the craziest ideas of what was a threat to their way of life or what would corrupt their children. We don't live in that same world today. I think if it were to come out today, most parents would be chill with it because most of societies have outgrown the mindset that a pregnant doll is going to encourage girls to get themselves pregnant.

I grew up on " fake " barbies cause my dad was the sole bread winner of the family and that is all they could afford. I would create the outfits of the barbie movies using whatever I had on my fake barbie, now as an adult I am thankfully able to afford them all and even collect the barbies I missed out on as a kid.
Mattel can't sue because China has different copyright laws so it would be a waste of time and money. Not just China actually, a lot of countries just aren't within big US companies jurisdiction to care.
