Thank you for this! I got my machine about a year ago as replacement to Dreamstation 1 from VA. At the same time I was also given a mouth guard to try and so I put my dreamstation two aside. After about one year the mouth guard hasn’t really worked out. So i decided to try clap machine and as everyone is doing, I’ve googled and found some reviews on RUclips… all negative and all clickbait. The info you present are all fair. Thanks again
I got my Dreamstation 2 about a month ago and I immediately did a bit of research to find out more about it. I came across this channel, which is very useful, and I thank you for that. I also saw some RUclips videos about the machine being a fire hazard, but anyone thinking about the alarmist tone of the titles of those videos should recognize them as click-bait. That’s not to say there isn’t a grain of truth buried in them somewhere, but I don’t believe that the stated opinion of anyone blowing things way out of proportion to get us to look at their videos and thus generate revenue for themselves should be taken very seriously.
My chamber ran out(evaporated)a few times when humidity was set at 5 on cold dry winter nights and sleeping 8hrs. I woke up some mornings after 6 or 7 hrs with a bad plastic smell when chamber ran dry. Eventually, I decided to back off on the humidity to 3, to avoid the bad odor. My water hasn't evaporated within 6-8hrs since adjusted my setting to 3. For the record, I grew more concerned about the plastic smell... eventually it got so bad it was waking me up in a panic ... I'm pretty surprised there aren't more safe guards to prevent the plastic from overheating if water runs out.
I had at least 4 thermal events. No notable fire but a smell of smoke similar to burning electronics or plastics. I did not know this was a problem unit the last time it happened. The first event was about 6 months ago. I’m worried that I could caused damage to my respiratory system while using this system. I have reported this to the manufacturer and to the FDA. I have not heard much from the manufacturer since I mentioned that I am concerned about what effects this could have on my health. I want to take the unit apart and to see what the root cause is but I would rather wait on FDA or other Lab to determine what happened. Until then I will not use the machine and uses my travel Cpap.
Had a dream station 1 for many years until it was replaced by the dream station 2. Have used the humidifier on setting three and at time I can go two nights without filling with water, other times it will be dry after one night. On one occasion the heating element got so hot if left an impression of it on the night stand, discoloring the finish. Have filed a report with pictures and a return email was received acknowledging my complaint.
I don’t use the humidifier part of my machine. I wish I could take it apart and throw out that part of the machine. The old machines were not integrated, I liked that better. I hope it means that I will not have thermal issues since I’m not using that part.

I agree, and thanks for watching.

That doesn't sound good. Are you using a heated hose on the DS2?

Great input. Thank you.
Is it possible that you have mouth leak? This can also lead to erratic CPAP water use

A lot of customers share your thoughts on that.
I keep my humidifier on 3 it smelled a little funny when I had it on 5.
Interesting. Do you have water in the chamber and does it ever run out in the night?
