- Here we pull out the stops with the Fuller Calculator and the Faber Castell N 2/83. We examine 20 inch slide rules and pocket rules, comparing the accuracy of the rules and the relation to the length of the slide rule.
We also have a look at the E6B and other aviation slide rules and military slide rules for aiming howitzers.

2:33 Seems you read it in the wrong direction, ie .9848 and not .9952
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS FOR THIS AMAZING INTRO, TO SOME OF THE MANY USES OF SUCH INCREDIBLE DEVICES!!!
...OBVIOUSLY, OUR SOCIETIES HAVE LOST A TON OF "WISDOM, INTELLIGENCE, AND KNOW-HOW"!!!! YIKES!!!!
Thank you for this wonderful video.
I don't know, but even on a concise no.300 circular slide rule, i'm getting about 3960 miles on the accuracy test. These analog calculators are amazing!
Are you a "Flat-Earther"? Your mention, for me at the end of this video, was ambiguous.
Nope
@@sliderulesandmathematics9232 guess he missed the flat earth crumbling animation (nicely done)and the extra salty tears of flat earthers. Lol. As you stated in the intro video, modern calculators have negatively effected the perceived relationship of numbers. As you know, the complexity of math is in the interpretation between 2 languages: spoken and physical. A dictionary for the spoken and a slide rule for the physical/logical/ratios.
@@dbeelee8564 I am in the process of re-acquiring some Slide Rules.
Are you familiar with artillery? I liked your explanation on that Firing table ruler. Now firing tables are 400 page books! I'd much rather carry that ruler.
I was in the Army and fired 3 shots with a 155 howitzer. but was in the medical side of the army.
Could be interesting. I once read computer game development blog on topic. First it's parabola. Then air drag exists. Then air density changes exponentially with height. Then temperature says it's not that simple. And now the worst part: dependency of drag vs speed is not linear, quadratic, but changes when air flow goes from laminar to turbulent, near speed of sound and so on, so it's tabulated.
Just wondering if the aviation rule can be used for cel nav? Or is there a specific one for that? Thanks
There are slides for maritime use. Mostly to help with dead reckoning
@@sliderulesandmathematics9232 Have you come across any or do you know what they're called(type...?). They'd mostly be doing spherical trig. If love to find one and learn to use it!
I'll look around.
Thanks!!
This was very interesting.
Where could we purchase slide rules pls? I cant seem to find any
Thx tia
you can get them on ebay
