Following your demonstration of the geometric mean calculation, I made an astonishing discovery - my 10" Faber Castell slide rule slide had the LL scales on the opposite side of the slide! (Must have never turned it over...?) I hadn't used it for more than 50 years and have always preferred the smaller but more complete 62/82 ruler which had lots of scales but needed good eyesight to use accurately. So the larger brother is now back in favour as it is easier to read even without spectacles.
You really have to think about what you are doing in math. This is something you are forced to do with the slide rule so it is a good habit to develop but takes some time
Oh, WOW! The first two minutes of the video just amazed me. This is GREAT stuff. New subscriber. I have a lot of videos to watch, have to dig out my Pickett and K&E rules and start practicing.
You seem to be a Pen Guy, too. How about working in a little about your pen the next time you run out of ink? Fountain pens are about as rare as slide rules these days! 😢
I’m a left handed person. Fountain pens get messy with me. I’ve just got into Slide Rules after a 50+ year gap of not using a slide rule. It peaked my interest. I was never very good at Maths, (or Mathematics….not Math…UK here 😂😂😂), but great at Arithmetic. Been watching your videos of all things Maths. I’m not going to lie, it’s going to take a while. I’m getting the hang of Sines, Cosites and Tangents. I never understood them at school. My 43 year Professional was based around Biology and Chemistry…I studied Haematology. I’ll carry on though…I’m 68.

i have cultivated the perfect youtube algorithm, im now getting cool old men on my front page. ive never been happier
Good to hear
Same lol. We have achieved which others will take years to come across.
I love that you use a fountain pen to do your work. I do too. Fewr errors by thinking more.
Yes, it was said that anyone who could do The Times complex crossword with a pen was a serious thinker!
i think i am going to have to watch this a couple more times (and perhaps some other math videos) to get my head working right.
