  • Why do the biggest, most successful, modern businesses on the planet, like Amazon, Google, Netflix and Tesla use Continuous Delivery and DevOps to guide their software development? Continuous Delivery is a software engineering discipline that employs techniques like CD deployment, CD pipelines and CI/CD, to help them to make better software faster.
CD though is also an effective tool that creates change for the better in organisations, and when worked on, leads to increasing agility. A huge advantage of CD is that it provides some practical direction and metrics that can help even large, complex, organisations to steer a path towards more effective software development practices.
In this episode, Dave Farley explores the use of Continuous Delivery as a tool to steer organisations towards more effective software engineering.

Brilliant presentation!! In my experience, one of the obstacles that make implemeting Continuous Delivery in organizations is that the team who would be in charge of it is not homogeneous. Developers have different skills, and level of proficiency, and, most importantly, developers have different interests, what makes some of them more, or less, eager to make the extra effort to learn new ways of do the things they have been doing for years, though less efficiently.
So, I'd deeply appreciate if you could find time to talk a bit more about how to face this situation in practice in a new video in the future.
Thank you so much for your inspiring videos..

      Jordi,
thanks for your feedback and insights.
I agree that the broadness of CD is daunting and a barrier. People often don't take the time to think in this holistic way, and so tend to often favour local-optimisations, over, sometimes more effective changes elsewhere in the process.
One of the reasons that I value CD thinking so highly is that I think it helps us spot some of those other opportunities.
I do want to talk more about some of the more cultural/organisational stuff that can help.
      Thanks again,
      Dave
