    I appreciate your dedication to making stem cell education accessible to everyone!
    On a couple of the general stem cell discussion groups, reaction to sc treatment had been discussed. This included the very situation you mentioned where the first treatment went well but not the second treatment. One speculation for the potential cause was a reaction to the blood cells if the donor and recipient were not matches for blood types. This was stated given that a small amout of blood cells are allowed to be in MSC's. How likely do you think that would be? I was wondering if the cord blood used would present any issue given it is blood but not cultured and as you stated less likely to show surface markers.
    Have you ever seen any similar reactions at your clinic with an inflammatory or immune response to a treatment and/or a reaction to the second or third treatment?
    Thanks again for providing clarity to a topic that is so murky.

    • @JoyKongMD
      @JoyKongMD  3 месяца назад +1

      Blood type is one issue, but there are a lot more HLA markers or other antigens a cell can express that can cause issues. At our clinic, because we use young native cells, I have never seen an inflammatory reaction, even at second, third, and fourth treatment, etc..

    Yes...!! When stem cells are expanded/activated. Time becomes a very important factor to consider. Because they start gaining functions. Thatt the original syem cell parent....didn't have.
    This Gain Of Function...is the part that cancer cells...into becoming deadly... Metastaic Cancer cells.
    As cancer cellls under hypoxic conditions. Revert themselvres back to become Mesenchymal Stem Cells...and they then gain functioons.

    Love your content Dr Joy. Are you able to elaborate on the immunogenicity part though? From my lay-man understanding, when the cells are harvested/collected there are multiple cell types including the likes of red blood cells and white blood cells etc. These all have surface antigens present and hence have the potential to create a greater immune response. The reason for expanding the culture is to not only increase the cell numbers but to also purify and remove the unwanted cell types so you are left with only MSCs.Typically this takes til passage 3 from what I understand. If you use unexpanded/native cells, wont this have a strong immune reaction because of the other cells present? How do you create a native unexpanded sample for therapy?

    • @JoyKongMD
      @JoyKongMD  3 месяца назад

      The product we used (native cells) do not contain these cell types that can cause immune reactions. When companies "expand" the cells, they start with homogeneous populations of MSCs, and the expansion process is not to weed out the wanted cell types, but to get A LOT of MSCs. Unfortunately, during this process, immunogenicity can happens because of genetic expression changes and emergence of new surface markers.

    • @JoyKongMD
      @JoyKongMD  3 месяца назад

      Glad you enjoy the content I put out. Just to clarify, the native cells we use at our clinic do not contain red blood cells or white blood cells. They are a mixture of primitive immune cells, fibroblasts, endothelial progenitor cells, and MSCs... all are considered stem cells, all valuable in their own right for the healing process.

    • @JoyKongMD
      @JoyKongMD  3 месяца назад

      Thank you for your comment. We do use supplements and laser technology to help activate stem cells, along with the young stem cells we give patients... The cells are less and less active as a person ages, not to mention accumulating replication error and genetic changes...

    Hi Dr. Do you know that the Mayo Clinic is using a microwave size device to extract the patient's own stem cells and the patient can receive an injection on the same day of their own stem cells? No risk of rejection. (But I'm not a doctor so my explanation is limited.) It was invented by a company located in Vancouver, Canada.

      @JoyKongMD  3 месяца назад

      Yes, we can certainly use a patient's own Stem Cells for therapy. However, there are various concerns I have regarding sourcing cells from a person's own body. I have made comparisons between using a persons own stem cells versus using young stem cell sources, such as the umbilical cord. Please watch this video of mine for details:

      As to the cost of stem cell therapy, it is based on dosage of cells needed, which is determined by a person's bodyweight, age, and health issues, as well as considerations such as whether local injections is necessary in addition to IV infusions. Generally, treatment cost for most people ranges between $8500-$18,000 per treatment. If you want to understand a little bit more about what goes into these costs, this video of mine on RUclips may be helpful:

    Dr Kong I experienced wide spread subcutaneous fat loss due to an illness. Can stem cells become fat cells if required?

    • @JoyKongMD
      @JoyKongMD  3 месяца назад

      MSCs do have the potential to become fat cells, how much of the differentiation would happen I am not sure... May not be significant enough, depending on the degree of your fat loss. Fat grafting may be a good approach in that case, but you can always add MSCs to enhance the survival of fat cells after transplant...

    • @JoyKongMD

      I would have to examine the technology very carefully and check the offspring cells for changes in generic expressions and the culture medium for inflammatory signaling molecules... Not all processes are the same. Because we are getting such extraordinary results at our clinic with a fraction of the number of cells used, there's really no burning desire on my part to use expanded cells. But I am always open to new and better ways of doing things, as long as it brings further benefits to my patients with minimal side effects.
