What this tells me is that Muslims (generally, not all) believe everything they need to know is in their book, and when observation and a fence contradict what's in the book, it's the observation and science that's wrong.

@@unclegardener in scientific terms theory is a fact, it's the highest from of explanation. Laws in science actually aren't facts, there mathematical equations making the theory quantifiable. Like the law of gravity is just a equation, the theory of gravity and spacetime is the fact that explains the law. No law in science is a fact, there equations. All theories in science are facts, it's the highest standard there given. There's no law of evolution because you can't quantity speciation and natural selection into a proper formula due to it's dependence of the context we apply it to, there are millions of contexts so we can't form a one equation for it.

If you go to the galapagos, you can see the following with turtles:
1. There is the shore, then a vast grassfield. On the vast grassfield you can find short necked turtles
2. Then there is a vulcanic area that cannot support life. No turtles there, only dead ones and also fossils of acient turtles
3. After the vulcanic area you can find a huge mountain, and behind the mountain there is again a huge grassfield, but with different types of grass and vegetation (longer plants)

Brother, firstly, for me, the darwinian theory is a very fine theory which answers a lot. It is definitely something hard to NOT believe, even as a Muslim. But now coming back to your example, whatever you said are examples of micro evolution, which definitely is a fact. I completely agree to it. But when you refer to macro evolution, as to species turning into different species altogether, that is something I cannot agree to. I can give you all sorts of proper scientific evidences(that where discovered after darwin's proposed theory) as to why evolution and natural selection does not explain even the fundamentals of life, at this point of time.

1) Technically speaking, because of Iron and Gravity, analytical balance for weight and measurements come into existence, which work on 'Principle of Gravity' and thus represents, justice, Jurisprudence, Legislation and judiciary, and 'analytical balance' still displayed by all the world Judiciary.
The Mentioning of "Iron" in the verse refers to the magnetic and gravitational properties given to planet earth by Iron.

The word (أَنزَلْنَا) means to send down in parts and not at once.
That is, like the book (Quran) was sent down in parts, Iron was also sent down in parts.

Many things he said is incorrect, like he said Darwin's theory is a hypothesis. And that's not correct. Darwin's theory is a well established theory because there are many reality proves like DNA (which says about your ancestor), Human like fossils from before Human race. And many other things. And we share many similarities between our other ancestors like Neanderthal...we share Body type, Skull, bone structure, brain etc.
And the argument that Darwin himself said that he made the theory to explain things and not proven, so we should not believe it... then I have to ask what make us believe in religion? Doesn't it answers our questions? Doesn't we feel safe and get motive to live because of religion? Does anybody proved that Allah has physical body? Don't we believe that Allah don't have any body? Quran is a belief, not a fact.
The creation of things is either from non-existence, or from the elements and other beings in the form of composition. If attributed to a single Being, that Being is bound to have all-encompassing knowledge and power that prevails over all things. In this way, the giving of external existence to things whose forms are present in His knowledge or who exist as knowledge, and bringing them out of apparent non-existence, is as easy and simple as striking a match or spreading a special liquid over invisible writing in order to reveal it, or transposing an image from photographic film to paper. Through the 'command of "Be!" and it is,' {[*]: Qur'an, 36:82.} the Maker brings into external existence from apparent non-existence things whose plans, programmes, and shapes and proportions are present in His knowledge.
If it is in the form of composition and art, and not creating from non-existence and nothing, and in the form of gathering together from the elements and surroundings, it resembles the members of a regiment mustering at the call of a bugle after having dispersed to rest, and the soldiers collecting together in regular and orderly fashion, and in order to facilitate this exercise and preserve their positions, the whole army being like the power, law, and eye of its commander. In exactly the same way, as though they were the power, law, and officials of the Monarch of the Universe, the minute particles under the command of that Monarch -together with the beings with whom they have contact- are mobilized according to the principles of His knowledge and determining and the laws of His pervasive power. In order to form a living being, they assume a specified measure and proportion, which resembles an immaterial mould specified by Divine knowledge and determining, and there they stop.
If things are referred to different hands and causes, and to nature, then as all the reasonable agree, no cause can in any way create from nothing and non-existence. For causes do not possess comprehensive knowledge and all-pervading power, and non-existence would not be only apparent and external, it would be absolute. And absolute non-existence can in no way be the source of existence. It which case, creation would be in the form of composition. But if in the form of composition, the particles of a fly or a flower could come together only with innumerable difficulties after collecting the body of a fly and parts of a flower from all over the earth and passing them through a fine sieve. Even having come together, since there would be no immaterial moulds existing as knowledge to preserve them in orderly form without dispersing, physical, natural moulds, in fact moulds to the number of their members, would be necessary so that the particles that had come together could form the bodies of those living creatures. Thus, the ascribing of all things to a single Being is so easy as to be necessary and the attributing of them to numerous causes so difficult as to be impossible and precluded. Similarly, if all things are ascribed to the Single One of Unity, they become valuable, full of art, meaningful, and powerful to the utmost degree at the same time as being infinitely cheap. While if, on the way of associating partners with God, they are ascribed to numerous causes and nature, they become valueless and completely lacking in art, meaning, and power, as well as being infinitely expensive.

The seeds of flowers are sown in turn in a bowl of soil, which performs the duty of a flower-pot for them. If that ability is not attributed to the All-Glorious and All-Powerful One, such a situation could not occur without there being in the bowlful of soil immaterial, different and natural machines for each flower.

That is, they consist of an orderless, formless, paste-like mixture of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon and nitrogen. Together with this, since air, water, heat and light also are each simple, unconscious and flow against everything in floods, the fact that the all-different forms of those flowers emerge from the soil in a most well-ordered and artistic fashion self-evidently and necessarily requires that there are present in the soil in the bowl immaterial, miniature printing-presses and factories to the number of presses and factories in Europe so that they could weave this great number of living fabrics and thousands of various embroidered textiles.
Thus, you can see how far the unbelieving thought of the Naturalists has deviated from the realm of reason. Everyone may profit from this light according to his degree. As for the people of misguidance, they are grieved at the destruction of all beings, at their transience and apparently being despatched to non-existence-and if they have spirits, at their suffering, in addition to their own pains. That is to say, their unbelief fills their world with non-existence; it empties it over their heads, causing them Hell before they go there.

There is a verse in Quran that actually supports the evolution theory
"And he (Allah) is who had produced you from a single being" (Al-Quran 6:98)
Bearing in mind that this can be interpreted in multiple different ways. So one could argue unless it specifically mentions evolution and specifically goes down into the nitty gritty details, I'd argue this is interpreted in too many ways to support the theory of evolution

Because we do have clear evidence. All proposed mechanism have been observed and genetics confirms relation.
There is a difference between a "THEORY" used in every day speech by normal people.. And the word "THEORY" used in a science. What you are referring to, is a hypothesis.. A scientific theory is very different from a theory.. Almost the opposite. A scientific theory, is the currently best explanation for something.
Meaning that the current best explanation is that humans evolved from a common ancestor, a fish living 370 million years ago.

Charles Darwin never said that we have originated from Apes!
We do however share a common ancestor with Apes. When we compare the DNA of a human, a chimp and a gorilla, you would expect, logically that the DNA of chimps and gorillas would show close similarity. However, this is not so! The DNA of humans and chimps are more alike than that between chimps and gorillas.
The Quran does not say that Adam a.s. was the first human being. This is an erroneous understanding.
1000yrs before Darwin, the Western world came to know of Evolution from Muslim scholars from the Middle East. It was then called "The Mohammedan Theory of Evolution."
Ibn Khaldun in his great book THE MUQADAMAH, talks about evolution. He even goes steps further back than Darwin. He tells us how life originated from minerals.
Scientists have unearthed at least 12 different species of Hominid i.e upright walking species. Scientists now know the mechanism of evolution, Darwin did not know the mechanism!! Hence, very soon we will come to know of THE LAW OF EVOLUTION. As a Muslim I see no conflict between Islam and Evolution.

Yes science changes because it seeks the actual truth, its writing are done in a rigourous way, and when new evidence is found it is ready to be updated.
Quran never changed because is a religious book full of super vague statement without any rigor so even when the facts prove it wrong people can just conveniently say “oh well this was just a metaphor” or something. Era of Abraham and Ishmael (Around 1813 BC- 1644 BC)::-- In Judaism, Abraham is the founding father of the covenant of the pieces, the special relationship between the Hebrews and God; in Christianity, he is the prototype of all believers, Jewish or Gentile; and in Islam he is seen as a link in the chain of prophets that begins with Adam and culminates in Muhammad. The Quran states that Ibrahīm (Abraham), together with his son Ismāʿīl (Ishmael), raised the foundations of a house that is identified by most commentators as the Kaaba. God had shown Abraham the exact site, very near to the Well of Zamzam, where Abraham and Ishmael began work on the Kaaba’s construction in around circa 1800 BCE. After Abraham had built the Kaaba, an angel brought to him the Black Stone, a celestial stone that, according to tradition, had fallen from Heaven on the nearby hill Abu Qubays. According to a saying attributed to Muhammad, the Black Stone had “descended from Paradise whiter than milk but the sins of the sons of Adam had made it dark”. The Black Stone is believed to be the only remnant of the original structure made by Abraham. After placing the Black Stone in the Eastern corner of the Kaaba, Abraham received a revelation, in which God told the aged prophet that he should now go and proclaim the pilgrimage to mankind, so that men may come both from Arabia and from lands far away, on camel and on foot.
Ishmael (Ismā‘īl)::-- Ishmael (Born in around 1785 BC) is the figure known in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as Abraham's (Ibrahim) son, born to Hajar (Hagar=wife of Abraham). In Islam, Ishmael is regarded as a prophet (nabi) and an ancestor to Muhammad. He also became associated with Mecca and the construction of the Kaaba.
Isaac (Isḥāq) :-- Isaac (Born in around 1795 BC) is recognized as a patriarch, prophet and messenger of God by Muslims. As in Judaism and Christianity, Islam maintains that Isaac was the son of the patriarch and prophet Abraham from his second wife Sarah. Muslims hold Isaac in deep veneration because they believe that both Isaac and his elder half-brother Ishmael continued their father's spiritual legacy through their subsequent preaching of the message of God after the death of Abraham.

Also known as Lot in the Old Testament, is a prophet of God in the Quran. According to Islamic tradition, Lot was born to Haran (Elder brother of Abraham) and spent his younger years in Ur (In southern Iraq of Mesopotamia) migrating to Canaan (Present Israel, Palestine, Labnon, and Coastal Syria) with his uncle Abraham. He was sent to the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (Situated on the Jordan River plain in the southern region of the land of Canaan) as a prophet, and was commanded to preach to their inhabitants on monotheism and the sinfulness of their lustful and violent acts.
Yakub (Jacob):--
Also known as Yaˈqūb ibn Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm (Literal: "Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham"). He, born in around 1770 BC is a prophet in Islam. Muslims believe that he preached the same monotheistic faith (Oneness of God) as did his forefathers: Abraham (Ibrahim), Isaac (Ishaq) and Ishmael (Ismail).
In the Hebrew Bible, the Twelve Tribes of Israel descended from the 12 sons of the patriarch Jacob (who was later named Israel) and his 2 wives, Leah and Rachel, and 2 concubines, Zilpah and Bilhah.
As in Christianity and Judaism, Islam holds that Jacob (Yakub) had 12 sons, each of which would go on to father the 12 Tribes of Israel. 12 sons of Yakub were the eponymous ancestors of the tribes of the Israelites. Jacob had 12 sons who were the eponymous ancestors of the 12 tribes of the Israelites.

यहाँ पर भी इस्लामिक मौलानाओं द्वारा विभिन इस्लामिक कार्यक्रमो में हर 600 से 3000 वर्ष के अंतराल पर मूल इस्लाम मे कालांतर में आने वाले contaminations (मिलावट) को दूर करने हेतु rasul (नबी) को पृथ्वी पर भेजे जाने का सिद्धान्त सही सिद्ध नही होता है।
